Another vote for F & S. After a disappointing phone call with my former Bloomington locksmith, I called Jeff at F & S. I needed my backdoor re-keyed. Jeff told me he would be by in about 30 minutes, even though it wasn't an urgent job. Super friendly. Jeff came by and looked at my lockset and told me I need a new lockset and told me what my alternatives were. In fact, he told me how I could actually save money by having the store where I buy my new lockset do the re-keying instead of him. How often does a business owner try to save you time and money like that? I plan to get the new lockset but will definitely call Jeff for the installation and re-keying. I like working with honest people and Jeff is definitely honest, even if it meant he was not going to get paid. I have found my go-to locksmith in Bloomington. read more

My cheap Kwikset lock was not unlocking as it normally would, leaving me locked out of my home. I called F&S and was prepared to spend $30 to $40 as has been quoted here in Yelp, but when he told me his fee was SEVENTY dollars, I replied that that wasn't in my range of affordability and that I was a disabled Vietnam veteran with little income. He was unswervingly unsympathetic. Having dealt with this icy reception, I cannot recommend his services. I sent him on his way with a God bless you, and knew then and there I could never patronize this "businessman" in the future. P.S. I called my neighborly neighbor who came and got me in with little difficulty. I paid him what Mr. F&S could have earned and was glad to have kept my $ near home. read more

Ok, we all have those "oh, snap!" moments. Mine happened 6:23 PM on a Monday night as my wife and I were about to head downtown. We headed out, slammed the door, and proceeded to lock the deadbolt. Alas, I had grabbed the wrong keys. Yes, we were locked out. Yes, my wife blamed me. Yes, I was at least 97% to blame. Fortunately, Jeff sped over in about 11 minutes (and incidentally saved me from an untimely demise). If you want to spend 35 dollars just for someone to open your door then sure they'll get it done but in my opinion 35 dollars is a robbery. It only costs them maybe a dollar or two of gas and 30 minutes of time and then charge you 10 fold. read more

Locked myself out of the house at 6:30 on a Sunday, and they showed up within 20 minutes, very friendly, and got me into my house within two minutes. Small anecdote: two men showed up, and I originally asked the one assisting how much the service was while the other unlocked the door, and he said he thought $50 on Sundays but wasn't sure. When I went to pay the man in charge, he said $60. So I paid without saying anything because it was great service and went inside. Two minutes later, they knocked and gave me back ten dollars because the first one originally told me $50. I never mentioned it, and they certainly didn't owe it to me. Not the best time to have to call someone away from their family to deal with my emergency, but I thought the price was STEEP ($120) for the service provided. So, the three stars are a direct reflection of the cost in comparison to other services I've used.
