I visited this business to request a quote for an alternator replacement. I provided the…read morereplacement alternator and belt when I dropped the car off, in case I decided to follow through after being given a quote. However, I was never given a quote. About 8 hours later, I received a call informing me that the car had been disassembled and that the alternator I provided was the wrong one. I was shocked that they had already taken apart the car without providing a quote or obtaining my consent. I instructed Eric to reassemble the car, at which point he informed me that I would be charged $1,200 even though I did not consent to this, and was not kept in the loop about the service beginning.
Because I am a young female, I felt that Eric was not giving me the same level of respect as he would to others. As a result, my father stepped in to handle the situation, and from that point on, Eric communicated exclusively with him. My father was able to negotiate for the purchase of a new alternator and its replacement for the same price after my father revealed he was a State Trooper.
When I arrived to pick up my car, I was prepared to pay the $1,200, which again was supposed to be a quote. During this time, my grandmother, who was with me, tripped on a step inside the mechanic shop. I noticed that there were no "watch your step" signs, which could have helped prevent the fall. Despite being seated at his desk directly in front of my grandmother, Eric made no effort to assist her.
Additionally, when I got my vehicle back, my dash camera was unplugged, which would be understandable however it was unplugged from the actual camera portion, and not from the actual charger in the car. This means power was still going through the cord, but the camera was not being powered. The receipt given to me was also incorrect, as the odometer statement was wrong, and the prices for repairs were not included.
In hindsight, I regret not contacting the authorities or filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau for deceptive practices, although I'm unsure of the impact that would have had, given that this shop offers "discounts" to local authorities.
I am shocked that I have not seen any other negative reviews for this business, as when I shared my experience with friends and family, I was met with the retellings of similar stories of the owners of this shop. Based on my experience, I would highly recommend Tubby's Auto Center in Red Bank instead. They have a level of professionalism and communication skill that I don't believe Green's Auto could ever match.
