What a Northwoods gem! Surly Furious on tap, you can't ask for much else…read more But we did. Beer and dinner for 5, 4 of which just emerged from a week of canoeing Quetico, and we were starving. The waitress (she is really nice!) said 2 larges would be enough for the 5 of us and she was right - we had almost no leftovers (good thing, we were staying in a motel with no fridge), but it was a stretch (literally) to eat it all. I have to say, for a Northwoods pizza joint the crust was really good. Toppings not half bad either, and they really like to load up your pie with banana peppers. We had a great time. I noticed on the way to the men's room that they have a nice game area for the kids, and it looked well-used. Also liked the free popcorn, though I'm sure it makes lots of people thirsty enough to order another beer. Next year we try the wings!!!

Went to Eveleth for grandkid's hockey tournament. Decided to have dinner at BoomTown. We had French…read moreonion soup for a starter. Was a decent broth with plenty of onion, and cheese. I had the shrimp dinner and couldn't believe how good the shrimp was. Crispy on the outside, shrimp was tender and not overcooked! Side salad was fancy too. Also had the bacon Mac as a side. Was not as impressed with that however. Surprised what you can find in a Northern Minnesota range town.

I visited BoomTown this evening for their Taco Tuesday. I ordered the Boom Boom Pulled Pork tacos…read more I have had these many time before, but tonight they were over the top spicy. I talked to the table next to me who agreed, in fact like me the lady at that table ate almost two of her tacos before she couldn't handle it any more. I told them I was having the same difficulty. One waiter said the tacos should be more "sweet" not spicy. Our waitress said others had complained today regarding the spiciness too. I stopped eating my tacos, chips and salsa, since I couldn't identify where the spice was coming from. When I asked my waitress, who had admitted others were complaining, about a discount since I couldn't finish my food since the heat kept building in my mouth. She stated I couldn't get a discount since it was Taco Tuesday so the food was already discounted. Not pleased. To add insult to injury the lady at the table next to me made the same complaint and she was offered new food. I don't know if it was because her husband made the complaint on her behalf, and I was a table of one? Very disappointed in service and food. Sadly I drove by Thirsty Moose who has amazing food, but picked Boomtown tonight. Regretting that decision.

They are $3 each or if you buy them prepackaged two for $5, and they had absolutely ZERO banana flavor. ZERO! I have to assume the baker forgot the extract. It was mid morning so the choices were slim pickings. The person I was with opted for an old fashion cake donut, which had so much cinnamon it was almost inedible. I got a Bavarian cream "filled" Bismarck. Less than half of the donut had filling and it was flat and dense. Super disappointing.
