I got in and a greeter was helping people with the forms and the line which made it so nice. The office is appointment only and they have very limited walk in appts available. So most people sitting there had appointments or with someone else. I had a 10 am appt and arrived at 945. Checked in at the kiosk, filled out the form that was on the wall. They had clipboards and pens and available. It was totally my fault but I didn't bring my passport and I needed that to renew. The clerk offered to let me come back later but it was at home and too far away. So I had to reschedule. When you schedule the appointment make sure to review all the documents needed before going. Otherwise it was a great experience, the best I ever had at a facility like this.

My dad is over 86 years old and had difficulty completing his fingerprints, but Shelby never rushed him. Instead, she patiently guided him and made sure he felt comfortable and respected. What touched me most was how she took the time to compliment and encourage my dad, which really made his day. Her kindness and positive attitude turned what could have been a stressful experience into a pleasant one. This new nation wide law went into effect May 7, 2025. So thankful that Texas has been doing this for some years now. I had to wait about 20 minutes beyond my appointment time even after arriving early but had no problems beyond that. Take note of the following things: - Make an appointment ahead of time. I cannot stress this enough. The DPS website says that all locations accept walk ins but this is not the case. I witnessed multiple people without appointments be turned away. - Make sure you read the DPS website carefully to ensure that you have all of the required forms of identification. - Do not try to arrive super early for your appointment to "slip in and get out." They are really strict about only allowing people to check in 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment. - Be patient!

I walked up to the bald headed woman at the information desk and before I could even get a word out she demanded to know if I had an appointment. When I told her no and tried to explain the situation she interrupted me multiple times and threw a piece of paper at me that had their web address on it and walked away. I went out to the parking lot, fuming at what had just transpired and tried to make an appointment. What a surprise, no appointments available anywhere in Houston for 3 weeks. I call the people in Austin back and left a voicemail. While waiting for a callback, I found that someone had canceled their appointment in Baytown. When I got to Baytown, the people in Austin called back and apologized profusely and allowed me to do what I needed to do via email. Having worked for the DPS, I can tell you that most of the people are rude and nasty but the people at this location on the East Freeway really take the cake. That bald headed woman shouldn't ever work with the public.
