Wow. I've been wearing glasses for 45 years and this was the worst experience I've ever had…read more People didn't know how to use the exam equipment. Now way I'd trust their prescription to be accurate. I'll spend a little more and go to a real optometrist.

This review is solely based on my recent experience in Onalaska WI. After I picked up my new…read moreglasses, I got home, looked closely, and realized that the store manager had melted one of my lenses. (I've since learned that the lenses must be removed when making adjustments at the nose.) It turns out the damage was irrelevant because I wasn't adapting to the new lenses, even after 2 grueling weeks. A staffer suspected that the pupillary distance might be set wrong, so he ordered a remake on both lenses. I wore the remakes for another 10-12 days and it became clear that the left lens was still horrible. (I don't blame Stanton for this, as they don't make the lenses.) Bear in mind, throughout this ordeal, I had to go back to my optometrist for a recheck, and also back to Stanton for lensometer readings and additional troubleshooting. In the end, it put about 1000 miles on my car as there are no nearby locations. It became such a big problem in my life that I was actually considering corrective LASIK surgery to solve the matter once and for all. When I politely had to request another remake of the left lens, the manager suddenly started treating me like I was a nuisance. She basically told me they were done helping me. As a former professional photographer, I know that lens making is not an exact science. You can spend two thousand bucks on a camera lens and still get a factory-inspected flawed piece of glass. I also learned that eyeglass lenses are relatively cheap to make, so I wasn't too afraid to ask for just one more remake. But the manager wasn't as concerned as I was about resolving the issue. I'm upset that it was MY idea, and not hers, to simply pay them for another vision recheck so a new left lens could be made from the updated prescription. She agreed to it. When I told the eye examiner that I technically only needed one eye rechecked, the manager overheard and spoke in an extremely snippy and condescending manner that they don't do "one-eye exams." She probably thought I was trying to pay half price. I wanted to argue back at her but I had to keep calm because I didn't want to be out $500. Ultimately, a new lens was made, and I can finally see well out of both eyes again! I may never understand why it took two tries for the right lens and three for the left, but the store manager only made the situation worse. Maybe she's under a lot of pressure to maximize profits, but that's no excuse for being rude or for bailing out on a customer without exploring all options first. The rest of the staff were great, but I will never set foot in that place again under the current management.

1 Star -- Extremely Unprofessional Experience…read more We trusted Shopko Optical to perform a routine eye exam for my daughter, and the level of care and professionalism we received was unacceptable. During the appointment, Dr. Colleen Konkle failed to include the progressive (reading) portion of my daughter's prescription, which she requires for the bottom part of her lenses. This was never discussed with us during the exam. We assumed a complete exam had been performed, as any patient would. When I called the office to have this corrected, I was told they could "fix it." Instead of doing the responsible thing and re-examining my daughter to determine the correct progressive prescription, they simply copied the progressive numbers from a TWO-YEAR-OLD prescription. When I asked where those numbers came from, they admitted they pulled them from the old prescription rather than performing a current exam. That is not appropriate medical practice. Prescriptions change, especially over time, and simply recycling numbers from an old prescription is careless and unacceptable. The correct response would have been simple: redo the exam at no charge to ensure the prescription is accurate. That option was never offered. Because of this mistake, I am now in a terrible position. My insurance only covers an exam every two years, which means I may now have to pay out of pocket for another eye exam somewhere else just to make sure my daughter has the correct prescription. This entire situation was created by their lack of thoroughness and accountability. To make matters even worse, when I called back and asked to speak directly with the doctor about the situation, Jason at the office completely dismissed the concern. He essentially blew me off, told me "good luck," and said nothing could be done and that I could not speak with the doctor. Being brushed off like that when trying to resolve a legitimate medical concern for my child is beyond unprofessional. Between the incomplete exam, copying an outdated prescription, and the dismissive treatment when trying to resolve the issue, this experience has completely destroyed our trust in this location. I would strongly caution others to double-check their prescriptions here or consider going somewhere else for eye care.

bad experience even before the actual exam. I was called twice and emailed about insurance…read moreinformation prior to my appointment. I called back with insurance info and emailed back before the specific time and our appointments were canceled. They never called we just showed up and the said we didn't receive you information so we canceled. This has me a little clncered on what is happening and who has all of our insurance information. Also, a big read flag that communication is definitely lacking at this optical.
