I have gone to Eye Wares since 2017 under both Dr. Franz (retired) and Dr. Agnew. I have always had excellent customer care and experienced fair business practices. I always call ahead to ask for pricing to be sure I can afford it before going. They let you know what's included and always explain what you're paying for. I do not have vision insurance but they always check my insurance on file just to be sure I'm not overlooking a benefit. They also accept CareCredit, which is a great help if you don't have the cash. I love the eye exam technology they use. When I first went, I was concerned about my eye health and this device allows them to get a deeper look into the physical health of the eye as a whole versus just diagnosing off of symptoms or assumptions. They are knowledgeable and quick to recommend a reference should you need one. My recent contact fitting at the Mandeville location was just as thorough and efficient as always. They always have the latest products. I received Acuvue Oasys Max dailies and they're amazing. Best contacts I've ever worn. My favorite thing is they never get complacent with my care. Every evaluation is taken into the utmost consideration for what is best for me at that time. The ONLY con I have to say about this company is that they tend to only offer higher end/luxury brand of glasses, at least that has always been the case at the Mandeville location. I wish they offered more of a range in respects to glasses frames, but I will say that the fitting for glasses, the manufacturing and shipping, and any aftercare concerning the glasses was impeccable. I had an incident with one of the arms of my glasses and they were helpful in assessing the damage and providing solutions that have allowed me to get the most use of my glasses. Also, they went over every step of pricing with me throughout the service so that I knew the entirety of what I would be paying. The VA sent me here. I came in for issues with dry eye secondary to medication for depression due to my military service. The doctor straight up told me to do talk therapy and looked me up and down and said to go to the gym and get off of my medication. Ironically enough, I had come to this appointment from the working out at the gym. Guess I am not fit enough according to her standard. If she had asked me a single question about my situation, she would have known I also already do "talk therapy." I was telling my husband my experience as we were walking outside and I think the secretary overheard and sent the Dr. out. She came outside to ask if I had an issue with my experience and when I tried to tell her she told me to leave and offered no apology. I can say as a veteran, I have never had a worse experience at a medical office and would never recommend a fellow veteran go here and support this place. I will be submitting a formal complaint so the VA can reconsider using this facility moving forward. read more

I really liked the sales reps and office people I have interacted with, but I'm leaving a low star review because the processing time on getting in frames and lenses is unreasonably long... and it's caused a massive personal issue for me concerning photos during a vacation. My vacation started September 8. I was incredibly upset about it - I had not been able to do a vacation in over 4 years and I did not have regular clear glasses to wear to take normal photos in. In the middle of June 2023 I went to the beach and accidentally had my default pair of Silhouette framed glasses get swept off (I genuinely forgot I was wearing them). When I returned to Covington I began to search for a retailer that could order Silhouettes again. I found that EyeWares did and is covered by my eye insurance. They even went out of their way to order the more unique frames available. This was around June 28th for context. We added in new transition "sunglasses" for me, and a plain set of framed sunglasses for my husband. In the meantime my husband got a simple pair from LensCrafter, a few days prior on June 26th. Just for context his glasses were fully ready by July 7th which is about 10 business days (a typical turnaround time). The first set of frames (the transition sunglasses pair, and my husband's plain frames) were ready by July 17th. The Silhouettes were not. So the first set was ready in about 15 business days. Sort of long but not a big deal considering the cool eyewear frame selection... but my main glasses, what I came in for, were not in yet. It was not until July 25 the frames came in. 19 business days. This is just the frames, not including lenses. So I came in to be fitted for the lenses. It was not until August 14th that my Silhouette glasses were ready. 33 business days from order date. I went outside, and then realized they were transition lenses. These are intended to be my regular glasses - I use them mostly on the computer, but also for photos because they're not very visible. I came back in and they told me they would be able to order the correct lenses and have it ready to swap out no issue. I first noted here to the manager that I had a vacation starting in September 8th, because of how long this process was taking. I was assured the lenses would be in rapidly, and it would take mere minutes to change out. He wasn't concerned. I called a week before my vacation in a panic about this same issue because still - NO lenses. I was assured by the manager the lenses would be in by next Wednesday, a day before I left, and he could swap them out in minutes. There I was, September 7th. It was Wednesday. I was told that my lenses would be in by Monday September 11th, but of course they were not. That will be 53 business days for anyone keeping track. If I had known how long it takes this retailer to get in frames and lenses, and that it would effect a vacation 2.5 months away - I would have never ordered here. And this was not a small thing, this ruined every single picture I took outside - and most of this vacation was outside. I was literally on the verge of tears when I called that morning and they told me the lenses were still not in. In the end I managed to tell them I was going to start working with my insurance to force a refund so I could get the lenses I paid for - this was late October. Low-and-behold the lenses came in about 5 days later. I again, had to call them to find this out. 90 days from order date. I brought my glasses in to have the lenses changed, they insisted they could do it within a few minutes. The first technician took my glasses back, and then came out to tell me he could not get my glasses back together and I would have to leave without them. If my husband had not driven with me to the store, I would have been SCREWED. I cannot drive without glasses. A technician the next morning finally installed the lenses right. They gave me the glasses back and assured me the owner would call to apologize about their abhorrent service. Nothing. And of course, I go home and find that it seems like they have changed the nose pads to a slick hard plastic, and messed with the shape of the frames Now they don't stay on my face. So on top of everything else, they opted to be even further malicious and screw with the frames. Probably why the owner did not call me back. I am not coming in to get them fixed, of course. I'm just waiting to cycle into another annual frame upgrade with my insurance. What a nightmare, and absolutely childish. I'm fairly sure they messed with my glasses to get back at me for the reviews on Google and BBB. I wrote these reviews because of how YOU were treating me and not giving me the glasses I PAID FOR. You don't get to be mad and screw with my glasses to get back at me. YOU are at fault here. NOT ME. read more

UPDATE: Dr. Agnew and her husband have legally threatened me for my negative review on NextDoor and Google. See pictures (Provided they don't get them deleted.) I recently switched to this place because my insurance changed. Horrible experience. First, instead of dilating your eye, they take a picture of your eye with a machine and it costs $90! It is not part of your comprehensive exam nor do they ask you in advance if you wish to incur the charge. When I asked Dr. Agnew about the charge she said dilating takes "hours" and this is quicker. When I asked why I wasn't given a choice upfront she replied that my insurance covered part of it. That was correct and I paid $39 out of pocket. I find it very lofty for them to just assume as a customer that I am ok with that. I wasn't even given a choice. Thankfully, I can afford it but I pity the person who needs to be budget-conscious thinking they are just coming in for an exam and getting additional fees. Second, both my daughter and I got contact fittings. Now, I have paid contact fittings over the years and I know they are sort of a joke. We all know it's just another way to charge the customer. On this day, I was billed $80 for my daughter's fitting and $159 for mine. Why? Because I have astigmatism. Now, this was the first time I have ever had this happen. Again, when I inquired about the additional fee, Dr. Agnew said that it's harder to fit me because I have 3 things wrong with my eye and my daughter only has 1. Now, I should state here also that I was only getting ONE contact to accommodate my need for progressives. Here is exactly how the fitting went for both of us: 1. Dr. Agnew looks at the script and tells Sandra, her assistant, which contacts to give us and what strength. 2. Sandra hands us the contacts and we pop them in our eye. 3. Dr. Agnew looks through the microscope to make sure they fit. VOILA! Fitting complete. So I discuss this further with Dr. Agnew. She said she has to run complicated calculations in order to fit me correctly. Followed by, "That's why I went to Optometry school for four years." Now, this is exactly where she lost me as a customer. First, she looked for a second at my prescription and gave Sandra the order of which contact to give me. If she ran a complicated calculation that took four years of optometry school to do, she did it in seconds. Second, if you need to throw your degree around to make a point then you believe you are better than your customer and you clearly have no point. Dr. Agnew, you just lost someone as a customer because you think I'm dumber than you. Finally, I also advise you to spend some time training Sandra as well because she was awful. When your kids notice that the service is awful, it's really bad. Good luck with your practice, Dr. Agnew. I wish you well. read more

I feel that if current employees and personal friends can leave "reviews", then as a past employee, I should be given the same opportunity. Agnew does not respect Hipaa regulations at all. Your personal info is not properly destroyed. She literally does not care about you or your family. While her employees are pretty great, she treats them like crap. Wonder why your jobs take twice as long as other places? She doesn't pay her bills, so she's been "fired" by all the labs. I should probably post this anonymously because she will sick her lawyers on me like she does to everyone else that disagrees with her. I am among several employees that left her practice due to her unprofessional behavior. Be wary. was a patient last year had no problems. this year, on the other hand, is ridiculous. when i made the appointment for myself and my husband for june 13, 2025. we were never told the appointment does not cover a machine they use and it would be $49/person, not once. also, we were told our glasses would be in in 14 business days, which now they are saying they never said 14 days, i don't know what i'm talking about, according to kiersten. because my lenses are so strong, they are considered specialty frames and could take up to a month before i can see again. i will never go back, except to get what i paid for. and as a customer, your service sucks and your employees think they are above everyone else. stuck up snotty people, need to leave the area. we don't like or want your business around the northshore! go back back to the city where you came from. i'll be going back to walmart for my glasses! fuck eye wares! read more

I went to eye wares last year and my insurance was taken. They scheduled me for an exam this year and I had the same insurance. After my appointment they informed me my insurance was no longer accepted. I had to pay for the exam. this would not have been an issue if I had been informed prior to the exam. When I brought it up to them and mentioned that this was a deceitful business practice the receptionist said you were told by the insurance guy. I was not told and when I spoke to their insurance person all he had to say was I'm sorry you should have been told. Like I said Eye wares practices deceitful business practices. read more

Buyer Beware! I spent over $1000 on prescription eyeglasses and sunglasses about 6 weeks ago. I called last week about one of my purchases, was told they had to call me back, and they never called back. So I went into the shop this week and was told they would not help me. They cited that they have a "no return policy" and shut me down. Not helpful, not accommodating. This small business isn't doing a good job ensuring repeat business. Stay away. read more

After purchasing glasses from Eye Wares, I brought my daughter for her checkup with her eye doctor. The doctor checked her glasses and notified me that the lens for the right eye was not made according to the specs he provided in the prescription. When I went back to Eye Wares to request a refund (for the lenses only since the frames were broken) I was told no by the store owner, Dr. Agnew. She accused me of trying to get a refund because the frames were broken. She said they could make the lenses again. Why would I want them to make the lenses again when I've had this experience with them? Don't waste your money or time with this business. read more

Unfortunately, my experience was not good. It took 90 days of excuses to get my glasses. The office manager Joe or Joseph, I couldn't get a straight answer would never return my calls. I would not recommend this place. It would have been easy to manage perception however they couldn't even do that for the customer experience. Not a happy customer and I was so patient with them. I tried to leave a message for Dr. Agnew to ask a question about my son and I was told she was in clinic and wouldn't be able to call me until later and I said that was fine. And then I get a call right back saying If I had a question I could either make an appointment or email her. I said, no thanks! She brought up a defect with my eye that no one told be before, then carefully explained what will happen over time and what to look out for before it becomes worse. Her office staff is equally as humble and helpful! I had a blast picking new frames. After my exam they presented me with a bill for the complete exam. I asked about my insurance and was told they no longer accept it. This would not have been an issue had I been informed prior to the exam so that I had a choice. When I brought this up they said to submit a claim to my insurance. After speaking with my insurance I was told I could not submit a claim. I called eye wares back and told them what had happened and they informed me that I was told prior to my appointment that they were out of network. I told them no one informed me of anything. They insisted I was mistaken but the insurance guy who informed me would call. When I spoke to the insurance guy about their deceitful business practice he claimed it must have been a miscommunication. He did not notify me but the office should have.
