Extras on Avail, Extras on Avail, where to begin? I'll start with this...I Dymone Priestley am the generic epitome of the striving actor with an intense story in regards to my upcoming. The story is relevant yet irrelevant to the subject matter so ill say this...I once told my friends "why am i winning this race of life wearing muddy boots in a mudpit while you all are wearing cleats running on astro turf and losing", their response was through unfriending me. This was the same repetitive process of "although im right i lose something". Long story short, my history has strengthened me for this career path and through the process found Extras on Avail. Anyone whos anyone knows how cut throat and degrading the industry can be but I have not once experienced this degradation thus ive never been under duress with situations because their professionalism and ability to adapt and adhere are beyond superb. As an actor we all struggle to maintain an open schedule to never stray away from the "main goal" of becoming an actor commercially or theatrically and sometimes instead of bussing tables, serving etc we choose to do background work to essentially keep us afloat which allows us to continue to chase "the dream". Extras on Avail has been in contact with me and has had me working steadily which inadvertently fuels my career and words cannot describe how appreciative I am of this because many that are involved take it for granted in that they are grandfathered into an advantageous situation on default. Humility, professional rapport, set terminology, networks etc can ALL be obtained through ONE day of work and could theoretically change your entire life and career...it sure has for me, sure I don't have the miraculous "ohhhh i got upgraded" story but at the same time i do...because I have been upgraded as an individual. Notice I have been talking about Extras on Avail as a whole, lets not forget the man behind it all...Mr. Nema Vand himself. I remember my FIRST booking through him and feeling nervous (as i always am in that the industry can be cut throat and egotistical) and wanting to introduce myself without seeming like the "industry leech" or "tool of an actor" so i took a deep breath and approached him as professionally and calm as I could and simply said "Hey Nema, im Dymone Priestley, I just wanted to introduce myself really quick and thank you for the opportunity", he then replied with "Oh hey, I know who you are, I've known of you since cut above". Those words left me intrigued beyond belief in that i had never had such a calm and non egotistical response from someone who was in the position he was...there was eye contact, a hand shake, a smile, a response...These are all occurrences i appreciate and respect because i feel like a human being and not just some "talent-less extra". From there our relationship was established BUT apparently based on his response that day, it had already been established. I cant put an emphasis enough and how amazed I was that day to have been treated the way I was regardless of my "title". In the beginning of this review i had mentioned how my story was relevant yet irrelevant...well, to reveal and reiterate that comment, I had basically been treated as if i were trash by my own mother who prioritized alcohol and doubted my acting career since I was 12 so to experience what I experience from what i had perceived as a stranger was sooooo uplifting and encouraging. To conclude, Nema and Extras on Avail are an organization that are not only professionally operated, humble individuals, sacrificial individuals, hard workers but lastly and most importantly, individuals who see others as they are...human beings. For that, i will be eternally grateful because what ever i become from there i have them to thank for. read more
