Joe assured me that they could get it done and they absolutely did! Once we started working on the permit it became clear how much effort they put forth to do the right thing. I was consulted on any design decisions and really brought along in the process. The city may not have been very fast but I always felt like Da and Joe had my back. After permitting I was so impressed with their work that I actually decided to use them to put in the driveway. Once again I felt like we were always on the same page and they really cared. The concrete strike happened which really put a hitch in things but Joe and Matt did everything they could to keep me informed and moving things forward. Once the work started I couldn't have been more impressed with the quality they did. I've worked with other contractors and this process was soooo easy. One of the most impressive things happened at the end when the concrete contractors we had originally planned to use backed out and Joe stepped in to find new ones and it happened on the same timeline without a hiccup. I couldn't recommend Truescape more to anyone.

TLDR: You get what you pay for, and True Scape Design is worth every penny. 10/10 would recommend…read more Our backyard was such an eyesore that I literally spent 3 years pretending it did not exist. My husband and I spent nearly 18 months heavily researching and planning what we wanted. We had no less than 10 companies come survey our property & give us quotes. When we met Joseph with True Scape Design, he blew the competition out of the water. Before I get to the scope and quality of work, I have some words about Joseph. He is knowledgeable, kindhearted, trustworthy, communicative, flexible, and organized. He is a model professional. After talking with so many other companies & vendors, we were able to sniff out the BS'ers and Joseph is certainly not one of them. We trusted him completely - both with the biggest project on our property to-date and with making sound financial decisions as the project progressed. Here's a rough list of what we had done: - Total demolition and bulldozing of fence, uneven terrain, decking, stone steps, rocks galore, and a hideous pond - Install of irrigation - Install of multiple retaining walls. When you know what a good retaining wall is supposed to look like, you'll never be able to un-see the atrocities everywhere else - Install of stair steps (both a short staircase and step up in another part of the yard) - Install hot tub pavers - Install of paver patio (several hundred square feet). These guys were literally on their hands and knees laying pavers and sprinkling sand. If it wasn't *absolutely* perfect, they redid it. - Leveled our shed - Full plant relocation and removal & planting all new plants and trees. I made them change things up a couple times and they were so awesome about it. - Install of sod - Subcontracting for electrical & tree removal We were hands-on designers for the hardscapes and the plants. The True Scape Design team was patient with our ideas and changes of heart as things moved along. There were several times when True Scape identified modifications & additions to our design plan that we couldn't have foreseen. This is key when executing a design! Sometimes things don't work out the way you pictured, and they were so clever in how they blended "the plan" with the real-life execution. The True Scape Design team all worked so hard. They were timely. They weren't imposing on our neighbors or common thoroughfares. They kept a tidy work space. They worked rain, shine, or snow. They truly made our backyard the most beautiful thing my eyes have ever beheld :). Hire them. You won't regret it.

Unfortunately, we will have to have someone come out and re-do the patios and I say plural patios. After they initially completed the work, a few months went by and I had to beg them to come out and redo spots after they settled after multiple calls and emails. I should have known what the end game would look like and here we are. Hire someone with a lifetime guarantee, (they exist now, as we just started to get new bids) stay far away from these guys. We spent well into 5 figures with these guys and it was far from worth it.

The…read morebid was thorough but the numbers were disjointed and broken up as 2K for half the pad and 3k for the other half. There were other things that were odd like large fees to roll back 20' of 4' chain link. When I tried to get it adjusted, the estimator Bobby kept saying he would get back to me, that the owner Neil had to sign off, and that he'd get back to me. Then he did not. Then he said after he got back from vacation. He did not. Then He said he would in 24 hours. He did not. Then I called the owner Neil and asked for another estimator since Bobby is struggling with following through. After explaining the lack of response by Bobby, the owner said he would take over. Bobby told Neil that he did not follow up because I was not available which was not true.....and the texts are there to back that up, Bobby left town for over two weeks and dropped the ball. Neil was supposed to come by that night or the next day and the dogs would be put away and that I did not need to be there. Then Neil the owner said he would come out on a Sat, texted me about being late...then texted again that he is running late. Then never showed up, no call, crickets. I waited all AM as agreed, then asked if he can walk the property without me, he said "yes". (That contradicts what Booby said weeks earlier, that they did not act because I wasn't home...which again was not the agreement....so Bobby was covering for dropping the ball) I'm calling them again, (mind you, every time no one called back or shows up, it was me 100% of the time chasing them down.) Then I get a text 6 days after the no show from Bobby, the guy I don't want to work with anymore telling me to call Neil. Neil comes out and I learn that he is not the Owner, but another Neil. This Neil said that the no show Sat was because he was dealing with a death in the family. But the younger Neil texted that Sat, when I had an appointment, saying that they were running late. Hummm. The older Neil sent a new quote that he said when I called was 2" of 5/8 minus but Bobby said his bid was 3-4" 5/8 minus. UGH more disjointed communication. Mind you this went on From Aug 6 to Sept 19. Not once did Bobby, or Neil#1 keep their word to call, or show up but what is so unbelievable is that neither has the respect for my time. The older Neil is apparently the dad and the previous owner and retired from the landscape side. After he came out, he said I should contact Bobby, that he is really good at getting back to people. What? No one ever explained that there were 2 Neils or that no one had any autonomy to bid the job in the first place except the retired dad. The multiple times I called Bobby when there was no follow up, he was always chewing food. This is not the same experience that I have seen in reviews which is why I gave them so many chances. I finally gave up because they can't keep their word or communicate between each other. Along the way I was told that people were disrespecting my time for this excuse or that excuse but no one showed any care for 6 weeks of this treatment. So today I call and say I'm not going to do the retaining wall, just the plain and simple parking pad if they can fix the original quote. I am then told they won't do it because they have a $5k minimum. These seem to be nice people that aren't very good at customer care, or just their personal lives that make them break their word and they seem like that is normal. It is mind boggling that they would not do the parking pad, a 4k job, after their treatment for 6 weeks. Try MARENKOS if you need rockery.

The house has undergone an extensive remodel and this year it was time to finish the outside! Mark listened to our needs and ideas and came up with a thoughtful design that took into account not only our must-haves but also how the landscaping would evolve and mature over the years and in different seasons. If a certain plant was unavailable at the time of installation, Mark was quick to provide us with several alternative options that didn't slow down the install job. For a long time we thought that the landscape design was something we could figure out on our own, but after going through the process we realized how valuable it was to work with Mark and how we will probably actually save money now that we no longer have to go with the "trial and error" planting method!

We really liked them and felt a genuine connection. But over the course of the project we consistently felt let down. From the first design presentation, where they showed only two (very similar) designs and were well-over our highest-end budget (without other lower-priced options), there were many times we were left just shaking our heads. In the end, the designs themselves were adequate, but consistently we found it very hard to visualize what exactly the finished product would look like and never felt fully confident in what things would ultimately look like. Overages appeared frequently in the build out phase as they did not spec for retaining walls and other incidentals you would have expected to be identified in the planning phases. The only thing that seemed to be very clear and precise were the invoices, which came promptly. We were surprised to see charges for driving to our house and almost any discussion we had. It felt very lawyerly and we felt very nickel and dimed. We wanted to love this process, but the entire design phase and working with SCJ left a bitter taste in our mouths and has put a damper on our excitement for our new, incredibly expensive backyard. With all of that said, we realize that all projects are different and you might have a totally different experience. Have fun!

She taught us cool things like how to tell if individual branches are dead, or the best place to prune a rose back to. Scheduling for both phases was a little last minute as they were squeezing us in between other projects, but that worked for us as long as they met our hard deadlines, which they did without problem. For Phase One of our project in December, Orion Rockscapes installed a bluestone landing/apron at the base ofour front steps, as well as steppingstones from there to the side yard. Additionally, they installed new path lighting for the front and side yard paths. We needed these hardscaping things done in time for a holiday party, and they worked to a very tight deadline effortlessly. Phase Two was installed in the spring and started with removing a 15'x15'x15' English laurel and some mature Rhodies, as well as other smaller established plants and shrubs. They followed a plan to install a new rock wall to stabilize a slope, then planted a new hedge and perennial/shrub garden on all four sides of the lawn, in addition to precisely reshaping the lawn to the more interesting curvy shape in the design. They also added a steppingstone path on the other side of the yard. They worked closely with the designer, and came back in a timely way to install a few plants we found we needed once everything was laid out. They even added a handful of shrubs to fill in under a Rhodie that had to be limbed up a bit for accessing the yard. We chose not to install irrigation as my husband prefers to hand water (he's retired). Jade, my point person, and all the crew were incredibly easy to work with and professional, very good communicators. They were tidy and respectful on the site, and kept noise to a minimum, which we appreciated as my husband was just home from the hospital and was recovering from major surgery. Instead of the stressful process many such projects can be, this went so smoothly and efficiently that watching all happen it was actually a source of pleasure and hope at a time we needed both! I have wanted to relandscape the front yard for almost a decade to regain our lake view but kept putting it off because I usually find these big projects stressful. I am so grateful I finally found the right team and they did such a beautiful job. I am loving watching it mature and fill in. Such a huge improvement!
