After having a quick consultation/assessment with owner/stylist Anta and reviewing her style book, we decided on a "crotchet braids" style. I liked how quiet, professional and clean it was. I immediately felt part of the family as it was just herself and husband who were in the shop. I also appreciated her husband picking up the necessary hair that I needed for my style. She has been doing quality hairstyles since she has moved to the Triangle in 1999 and I see why others love her! I am glad I discovered her and very pleased with my hairstyle. I was even given recommendations for hair care products for both myself and my daughter. I look forward to coming back!

I went here almost a year ago and had a wonderful experience. I've been on a journey to donate my…read morehair for several years, so I returned this weekend for a simple trim. Unfortunately, I left needing a new stylist--and with significantly more hair cut off than I requested--because it wasn't cut straight the first time. I asked for it to be evened out, but it was overcorrected, and one side ended up even shorter than the other. I will now need even more cut off to have it fixed. I don't ask for layers, bangs, or anything complicated--just a straight, even trim. Yet my hair is still uneven by almost an inch. While I understand that hair grows back, this setback means I now have to wait even longer to donate it. I'm very upset. My hair was right at my tailbone before and now it's about 3+ inches shorter and clearly uneven.

I went to see Caroline at Shear Elegance after making the questionable decision to get my…read morefirst-ever layers and face-framing pieces days before a huge trip to London and Paris with my boyfriend. The cut I got somewhere else was completely botched -- super choppy, uneven, and truly looked like a child had gotten ahold of scissors. I was panicking and genuinely scared to go anywhere else because I didn't want it to get even worse. Caroline got me in so fast after I reached out, and before I even sat in her chair she told me I'd walk out feeling confident again. And she meant it. She was so kind and reassuring, but also insanely skilled. She blended everything, reshaped it, and somehow made my hair look intentional and actually cute again -- all right before my trip. I left feeling like myself and honestly relieved. If you're a girl who knows the stress of a bad haircut before a big moment... trust me, Caroline is the one. Highly recommend!

One of the hardest things about leaving DFW was leaving my hair stylist/designer, Ryan. When moving…read moreback to the RDU area I knew I'd have to find a new hair person. Well, Ryan actually helped me out. He's certified in L'Oreal color, so he used his fellow contacts to find me a salon in the Triangle. Douglas Carroll! I'd heard of Douglas Carroll because I'd seen their photos in hairstyle magazines when I used to buy those years ago when I lived in Charlotte, but I'd never been to the salon in Raleigh. I took Ryan's suggestion and made an appointment after getting some stylist recommendations from the DC Salon. I brought my hair color formula with me from Dallas, and Luanna the Raleigh stylist was able to take that and just keep right on going with my hair. Whew! She was able to cover my greys and give me a trim I liked. The salon itself has a cool vibe -- lots of hair stations, a great color mixing area in the back, plus a section up front with various hair products. Parking at this location can be tough depending on what day you come. I'd recommend making an appointment during the week if you're able.

It meant the world to me! As a woman in her mid-40's the last thing I need is to feel self-conscious about my hair. I left there feeling beautiful. Everyone here was incredibly friendly and genuinely serious about their craft. The level of skill at this salon far surpasses others at the same price point. Noah was the main stylist who worked on my hair and he was amazing. But what was most impressive was the way the whole team worked together to ensure myself and the other clients were taken care of. I also really appreciated their honesty about the state of my hair and the fact that it would take a couple sessions to fully correct what was done at the other salon. I was so happy with the results, but definitely appreciated Noah's honesty most of all. The salon overall seems to be run with integrity and highly skilled professionals.

Weaves IMO should be natural, never bulky, in fact a weave should leave people questioning if the hair is growing from your head or not. I've never been disappointed after leaving Brittiany's chair. Even my family is unable to detect when I'm in a weave. She is client focused, has impeccable customer service skills, and all around just a sweet person. She reaches out to me after my visits to check on me (this lets me know she really wants her clients to be happy). I've experienced growth, growth and more growth with each install. Many people are claiming to be weave or install specialist, and they have no clue. I love that Brittiany takes her time, she braids you up in a pattern that will suit you and your needs. She is not your average stylist. I'm so glad I found her!!

I paid $240 PLUS tip for Smedium Miracle Braids! I went to them back in June & they did an AWESOME…read morejob, which is exactly why I came back August 23rd, literally days before my birthday vacation. This time though?! VERY disappointed! The sizing & parts were ALL OVER THE PLACE! At first I thought it was just a few bigger braids...NOPE! Once I REALLY started going through my head, I realized it was A LOT! At that point, fixing a few braids wasn't gonna do anything...damn near my whole head needed to be redone! ‍ And the amount of HAIR used?! CRAZY! The feathered crochet hair comes 50 pieces in a pack & she used ALL 6 PACKS...that's 300 pieces!! Some individual braids had damn near 10 pieces of hair attached to ONE braid! When I got this SAME style here in June, they only used around 4 packs! And don't even get me started on the GEL!! WAYYYYY too much! My hair was greasy, stringy & just FULL of braiding gel! What really got me is I didn't even know how bad it looked before I left! She showed me my hair DOWN...not UP where I could actually see the parts & all the different sized braids. I got home & my daughter AND nephew was like, "Nahhh Auntie...that ain't it!" So I started pulling it up & REALLY looking through my head like OH HELL NAH! I couldn't even wear my hair UP on my birthday vacation because you could clearly see how inconsistent the braids & parts were! EMBARRASSING AF after paying $240 PLUS TIP! Now I'm gonna be FAIR...Ms. Nikki is VERY nice & she DID respond to me. She offered for me to come back so they could fix the bigger braids. But then she asked if I had MORE HAIR...MORE HAIR?! After ALL 6 packs were already used?! That right there had me like nahhh! ‍ I was already pressed for time because I was leaving for vacation, but after REALLY going through my head, fixing a few bigger braids wasn't gonna fix THIS! Too much needed to be taken down & completely redone. And if MORE hair was needed on top of the 6 packs already in my head...I definitely wasn't going back! ‍ At this point, I don't want NOBODY else playing in my head! The damage has already been done! I also don't like that you have to PAY halfway through the service when you haven't even seen the finished product yet! I paid for SMEDIUM Miracle Braids...that is NOT what I received! PERIOD! It's really disappointing because my first experience was so good & I REALLY thought I had found my go-to braid shop! Unfortunately, I won't be returning after this! I'm posting the pictures too because y'all can look at the sizing, parts & overall result and judge for YOURSELVES! ‍
