We have been going to this company for many years for Easter, Christmas, and family photos, and the service has always been exemplary. I reviewed the other postings before starting this, and observed some with negative feedback. What I can say is that no company is perfect, and there will always be unsatisfied customers. What makes Expressions special is their willingness to go above and beyond to remedy any issues, and the outstanding everyday customer service. Our photographers have always been very patient and kind with my young daughter, and have gotten smiles out of her for all of our pictures (not an easy task). One time we had an appointment set during the Christmas season, and somehow things got mixed up and it didn't pan out. The owner (Jon) immediately came down to the store from the Santa Pen, and spoke to us personally. (The other employee Bryce was awesome as well) I'm not going to go into details on what was done to fix the problem, but my wife and I were more than satisfied, and left happy at the end of the day. He basically utilized his own personal time to get things taken care of. Probably not ever using them again. We got there and it took a while for them to serve us and set up the background. Then when the photoshop it started they seemed to not know how to pose us and engage us. In the end I felt like I ended up commanding the shoot- thank goodness I have a background in photography and know what I like. They are good for simple and static. If you want more dynamic, fun and creative maybe try and book and out of studio session. What I figured would take a little over and hour took almost two hours. We were starved and ready to run out the door at the end. I'm hoping they don't mess up on the order- they had someone in there complaining about that as we waited after the shot to choose our photos. read more

Thankfully, the photographer Aaron was very professional and worked with us to make our experience the best it could have possibly been. This place is awful. We paid $500 to have 1 hour family Christmas photo shoot. We walked away with ~50 photos and they are all awful. The photographer did NOT give any direction or posing during the shoot, we were rushed in and rushed out. The wait to get our package was super long. Their staff had no clue of the promotion we paid for. Super over-priced and an awful product. Do not go here. My iphone photos are better. Big waste of money. read more

I took photos for my real estate business card a few months back. The staff was nice knowledgeable & professional. I had a scheduled apt., to do my hair, makeup & get my photos done. The makeup artist was very nice, her make up & hair was not bad at all. Once I got done i changed into my own outfit and worked with the photographer to take a few shots. It was quick & painless. Super professional and fun. We had a big family portrait with 8 adults and 6 young kids. Our photographer Daryl was very easy to work with and really good. They obviously had experience with kids because they knew exactly how to wrangle them together and get them to focus for the pictures(which I thought was gonna be impossible). Myself and the baby came home for a short visit and my Grandma decided, on this visit, she was going to finally get her professional picture of her grandkids and her great-grandkid (a.k.a. the baby). She decided on Expressions because she liked the way my sister's senior portrait came out (she graduated a few years ago). It's always quite the to-do to get all the way out to Aiea from the windward side, but I guess that was the sacrifice we had to make for my dear Grandma. We (Grandma, sister, cousin, and the baby) walked in and they took us right away. I guess we showed up right on time for our appointment. The guy (didn't catch his name) was really nice and understanding with having to photograph a 18-month-old. He set everything up pretty quickly and got us into position, then he became the funniest, most amusing person to the baby. She was able to crack a genuine smile each time. I did warn him not to "say cheese" because, well, it's not pretty (hilarious, but not pretty). The photo session went quite quickly, then we had to wait until they were ready to preview. The baby was in quite the mood afterwards, so we waited in the store for the pics to be ready. I think we might have been a bit of entertainment for them, she did put on quite the performance. Lots of yells and screams, then happiness with the bribing of fries and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on the iPod. It didn't take as long as they said to preview the pictures (I'm sure they were trying to get us out of the store QUICK) they came out nicely. It took us a bit to figure out how many and which ones to choose, but my Grandma just wanted to make sure no one was left out. During the selection process, I was asking about the social media discounts they were offering, and he was nice enough to throw a couple of them in. Free 8x10 & 10 percent off, it made my Grandma happy. Overall, the experience was pleasant and the employees that we worked with were very helpful and patient with my family, we're all a little crazy. My Grandma just mailed me the pictures and they did turn out very nice. Even with my personal hang-ups of photos of myself, we'll be sure to put them up soon. read more

She was very kind and gave us good direction with poses as well as fixing our hair and makeup to make sure it looked nice. I can honestly say that the Newborn Studio is the best place to get your babies photos taken. Shelby is the most amazing person ever. As a first time mom I was very paranoid about everything but I got such a positive and comforting attitude from her that I felt like I could trust her with my son. Of course when you keep moving the baby into different poses their bound to get fussy and when my son started to throw a fit because he was hungry Shelby was very patient. She took me to a cooled ac room where I could breastfeed him. She didn't rush me and she didn't rush through our session. She was amazing and my sons photos came out amazing!!! I was beyond happy with the service they provided. I would definitely suggest the Newborn Studio to everyone looking to get professional and great quality photos taken as well as great service. read more

We had a very large group of people so it was great that they were able to get us all in. Unfortunately, they weren't very good at giving us suggestions for the background color so all of our black hair blended in with the background. The lighting was a bit off so some people were in a shadow and they weren't able to fix it. read more

A wam greeting from Lea started our photo session off perfectly. She was never too busy to politely answer our questions and always with a warm smile and sweet attitude. Then we meet Robert, the photographer who's stellar customer service skills were off the charts. He managed to make my son's graduation photos really show his personality! I probably could've done better myself with my baby's newborn photos. Only reason I paid for it was because those were the only newborn photos I would have for her. No suggestion for another session. My baby just wasn't having it that day. We spent over 2 hours there for photos with the same background. Also was told my photos would be ready within a week and they would call when ready...it's been 3 weeks since that information was given & if I didn't call for myself to see if it were ready, I probably would have never gotten them. Don't waste your time on price. I mean, you get what you pay for right?? Only reason I gave 2 stars was because the photographer was friendly. I had a wonderful experience! Upon entering the studio, we were greeted promptly and asked if we had an appointment. There were no other customers in the store, which was very nice because with small children, it is a task to wait! We were asked to choose two backgrounds and if we had more than one change of clothes or if we would like to choose something the studio offered. Once we chose our backgrounds, we were promptly escorted to the back of the store to start our session! Our photographer was very courteous and friendly! He worked really well with our children and was very patient!! Our session finished in a timely matter, which I was very pleased with because our youngest was getting tired! I am so pleased with the results of our session, I know we will be going back to take more pictures for other occasions! I was referred by another friend, and I would highly recommend Expressions to MY friends and family! The staff was very efficient, courteous, and always seeking to meet our needs!! I love the pictures I had taken. The newborn photographer is amazing. She was very patient with my baby girl after she woke up and waited for me to feed her and for her to fall back to sleep before continuing with the pictures. She was also amazing with my 2 year old and his not wanting to take pictures. She got him to pose and we got some great shots! The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because there was some trouble with communication. I emailed them to get more info and the owners were quick to respond by email stating I'd get a phone call in the next couple days to go over details of the photo shoot. After 2 weeks I sent another email stating I hadn't received a phone call. Apologies were made and I was told the photographer had gone on vacation and I'd get a call in a week. I did get a call the following week. After the shoot I was able to view pictures within a few days which was great! However, after I ordered my package I had no more communication so I wasn't sure how long it was expected to take to get my pictures back. After two weeks I sent another email asking how long it was expected to take and I got an email back that day saying they were ready. I don't know how long my pictures had been ready and waiting for me or how long they would have sat waiting if I hadn't emailed asking about them. Overall I'm happy with the pictures I got and I'd recommend this studio. Just make sure your on top of communication. read more

This place just opened up in Pearlridge where Coverlook used to be. Sadly, it is a DOWNGRADE. I honestly would not recommend getting your photos here... The prices are a rip off; and like someone else mentioned, there are extra fees they tack on. Be prepared to shell out $300+ for a basic package. In comparison, Coverlook charged less than HALF that price, and almost always had affordable specials going on. The makeup and hair is amateur at best. I briefly spoke to a woman who had just gotten her pictures taken, and she said they charged her $50 for hair and makeup. I was shocked because I thought she had done it herself at home. It didn't look professionally done AT ALL. Any random person couldve done that kind of makeup with a $5 kit from Claire's. The hair looked equally terrible: messy, half-assed; my 5 year old niece couldve done better.. :( This is a graduation photo mill; the definition of "generic". You will not get professional quality here so don't pay the premium. I would compare the quality of Expressions to Fantastic Shots, except FS charges around $15! I know there aren't many options anymore, but seriously, do not overpay these people! read more

I took my Son to see Santa at downtown pearlridge, pictures by expression studio. My Son, being special needs, had a bit of difficulty taking a picture. We were finally able to take one and during the ordeal the staff was very patient and kind dispite the looooong line we were holding up and even offered for us to walk around to calm my son down and come back without needing to stand back in line. After finishing, one of the staff came up to me and started telling me about sensitive Santa, an exclusive Santa visit for children with special needs, he gave me some info on it and I went home and found the form online and sent it in. We finished our sensitive Santa visit today and it was great, we had a comfortable sitting area to wait that was filled with little table activities for the kids and healthy snacks. When it was our turn, they were very patient and we were encouraged to take our time. My Son wanted to be on the floor so the photographer even got on the floor. She showed us the pictures she took and asked if we were happy, we left with a reusable goody bag filled with awesome stuff! $10 to pizza hut, $30 to down to earth, a teddy bear and more! I called to see if I could get my passport photo taken. The lady said that if I come at 5:45, she'd squeeze me in before their 6 pm appointment. I get there at 5:35 and was told that I'm going to have to wait after all and they're not sure how long it'll be so they can call me. What's the point of setting a time if you're not going to keep it. It's not like I want to wait around all day just to get a passport photo which only takes a couple of minutes. Horrible service!!! Got a gift for the 3,6,9,12 month baby photography from a friend. I thought it was a neat idea, however after just completing our 3 month pictures I have no desire to go back! Our photographer was rude and very insensitive. Our child is 3 months old, she isn't going to smile on demand. He made our friend snap the shots at one point and got mad at her when it didn't come out. Really sir, that's your job not hers. He asked for her burp cloth, next thing I knew he threw it on the floor. Good thing I packed an extra one. He did the same thing to her toy. If your going to take pictures of babies have patience. The money for packages would have been worth it, but because of the service, I'm unwilling to spend a penny! read more

Expressions Studio had "stood my family up!" Thats how it felt, sad to say. Calling from another island, I called Expressions on Monday evening to inquire about doing a photoshoot with my family. Didn't get his name on who I talked to, but he was very helpful in explaining and answering all my questions as this was our first time. (Just for that I give 2 stars). But he did sound a bit rushed to do so. Told him its for a family of 4, me, my husband and our two sons. I asked if they had Saturday open, he says their all booked. Sunday? He says their all booked. So I asked Friday? He said, yes they got 6pm, 7pm and 8pm. So I said 8pm so we don't feel rushed especially with my boys. He asked what package I was interested in, I said the $259 package. He offered and explained to me to do the Winter package. So I asked ok so how much would I be spending? He said $189 for 3 poses, all poses on cd, 6 sheet, 11x14, and membership. So I said wow ok, then how much would it be if I did my hair and make-up and the sitting fee. So he said for you, $34.95 + $9.95x3 on top of the $189... est $253. So I said OK lets schedule, what needs to be done? He said they need a $25 down payment. He was very patient as I had to make him wait and even put him on hold so I could get my credit card from my truck. So that was it until we fly in to Oahu. Friday comes. My husband and I figure we go in early so maybe they could take us earlier than 8pm, especially me since they need to do my hair and make up. Ohhhh man!!!! So we go in at like 715pm. Greeted by a young lady with a smile, told her we are early as we have an 8pm appointment. She tells me to sign in. Asks me how much outfit, I say one and if anything only I will change to another shirt. Then she gave me 2 square booklets to pick 2 background. It did take awhile to choose from. Went to the lady and told her ok we have our two, gray and a red background. She said ok and someone will be with you. So we wait and around 730pm, the family before us was done. So we wait and then finally the photographer calls us. We walk towards the back and he says you folks ready? I'm like wait! What? Aren't I goin to get my hair and make-up done? He looked puzzled and said wait here and I'll go check. He goes and chat with the lady. He comes back and says, theirs no booking for you to do hair and make-up. I'm like no way!!! We came from outter island to do a family pictures. I was very pissed off! I told him when I made the appointment it was for 3 regular sitting fee $9.95 and make-up and hair for me $34.95. Thats messed up! Not a very happy customer!!! "But I said, no sence in getting mad!" The photograper and the lady was chatting and another guy went by them looking at the computer. So the other guy came to my family and I apologized and said we don't have our make-up artist here. Had to be calm but it was steamy. He offered to reschedule for tomorrow, Saturday. I said well you folks are booked, he said well we're gonna have to get you in. So I said ok what time? He says 1230pm tomorrow. I said ok. So we walk to the front as the lady was looking at the schedule and the other guy calling the make-up artist as he leaves her a messge to return their call. He asked me if I knew who I talked to. I said I dont remember, but it was a guy. He took my credit card information wouldnt you know who collected from? The owner said ya. And btw that $25 down payment should be waived! No one could say anything! Was silent. Then the owner says you can either wait around here or we can call you if she's available to do 1230pm. So i said call me, he pulls out the check in slip and comfirmed with me my number. Maybe in 10 minutes I get a call, he asked if we can do 10am tomorrow as the make-up artist can't do 1230pm. I look at my husband and we dissappointly agreed! So tomorrow 10am!!! Pretty much this whole experience, wasn't a good one! My husband, 2 sons, a 6 year old and a 1 year old and I was ready to get things rolling. Unfortunately, it had screwed up our plans and now we have to put things aside that was planned tomorrow to do our photoshoot. Lets see what tomorrow brings. To be continued..... read more

Very disappointed. No 25$ gift card as advertised on their website. 2nd, photographer didn't seem like a professional photographer. Very soft spoken, nice, but didn't even take multiple shots to get a good spontaneous picture of my sons. I asked her why she was doing it 1 by 1, and she says they didn't want to take too much pictures to erase if not chosen. Asked to take pictures from chest and above but instead she took it as the way she wanted...didn't even try to crop or suggest how the pictures should look. She asks at the end of the session, to write the numbers down of what photos i liked. Out of 5 photo studios ive been through in my life, by far this is the worst company ever. Wouldn't reccomend this place at all...what a waste of my time and money to bring my sons and myself to take pictures in my hometown before returning to the mainland. read more

I took my son to meet Santa at Pearlridge for the first time. Every year in the past we have gone to Ala Moana and have never gotten him to sit with Santa by himself or better yet love the experience. This year I thought it would be the same...my son telling me he's ready then get there and he would chicken out. But surprisingly it was VERY different. My husband and I went on a weekday which was better since it wasn't crowded. Santa was very welcoming and his facial expressions and demeanor was pleasant and didn't scare my son at all. With his "jolly" personality he really made my son feel welcomed and at ease. I felt that he really took the time to talk with him and listen to his wishes for what he wanted for Christmas. I also loved how the staff was able to capture the experience of pure joy in my son. Santa had a way of making him laugh and smile rather then give the fake smile/pose type of picture. Overall we couldn't be more happier with the experience. My son LOVES Santa now and couldn't stop talking about how funny he was and we look forward to returning next year. read more

Cheap pictures, but they were the closet people to me so I gave them a chance for my son's pictures. I called to reschedule because of an emergency and the representative was rude and made me feel horrible. I spent money with them before and just needed to reschedule, I was still planning on spending plently of money. Great people to work with at expressions portrait. The whole photobooth and props were set up according to the floor plan, but to make more space for the bar expressions staff member assited to move everything to another area. The wedding party and all of our guests at the wedding had a great time taking photos in the photobooth! The wedding program went longer than expected, and the bride/groom weren't able to take photos in the photobooth so the staff at expressions agreed to keep the photobooth open for an hour longer.
