I've been going to Sarah for about a year and she is amazing! You are in and out in 15 minutes, minimal pain and no missed hairs. They have recently renovated the salon they are located in as well. She even grandfathered me in to the old pricing as long as I paid cash so I get a brazilian for $40. Also I can always get last minute appointments (even on Valentine's day :)). One other thing - I used to see Kassie at Bare Skin in Alexandria and find Sarah to be more thorough, much faster and charges less, not to mention its a lot easier to find parking. Lynn was amazing! I'm really really I mean really picky when it comes to my eyebrows. To the point where I have gone to my last brow stylist for six years! So choosing a new one was to say the least, scary. Lynn created a slightly new shape, but kept my arches in perfect shape and preserved the fullness! Loved the results! Her under warm wax was as painless as it could get. I didn't feel much discomfort and when I got home, there was pretty much zero irritation, even though I put on my tight sweater as soon as she was done waxing. A true professional. I purchased the $5 for $10 deal and set up an appt for eyebrow waxing. I got the appt confirmation right away. I'm a bit direction-ally challenged but it was difficult to see if I was in the right place since the sign outside does not say express waxing. But once inside I was greeted and a few minutes later taken back to the room. The room was clean, the lady was extremely nice and attentive. I wrote a review on 2/21 regarding my tinting and waxing experience, but am now writing an additional review with regard to the customer service. I called today in hopes of filing a "formal" complaint, and spoke to a gentleman that said, "I only answer the phones". He did not know who the owner was or who I could speak to. After several minutes of questioning, he stated that I could send an email to "Gary", who was with marketing, at expresswaxing@gmail.com. I sent an email to the address, and received a response basically saying, sorry for your experience, we will forward your concern to the owner who is on vacation until March 9. This is very unprofessional that I was easily able to schedule an appointment, and them take my money, but when I need customer service, no one is available!! Who is in charge while she is out?? Based on previous reviews, I trusted this company was reputable and professional, but I have yet to see that demonstrated. read more

If you have never gotten a Brazilian Wax before DO NOT GO HERE!!! The lady who attended me did a horrible job. I only went to this salon because of the reviews on yelp. So I have been to other waxing centers and that is the reason why I was determined to write a review. The salon overall is very clean and everyone seemed nice but when it came down to the waxing I was so upset. First of all the lady who attended me just put me in the room exited and came back but when she started waxing at no point did she have a conversation with me or tell me to breathe a certain way, or why she was using different colors of wax (I wasn't expecting her to baby me but it's called customer service). Second, she was very messy because she kept placing the stick she would finish with on the table which then would stick to the paper and would rip the paper when she would throw it away. Third, I had let my cookie hair grow out for a long time but she trimmed the hair and I think she trimmed it too low so instead of just setting one layer of wax she did two layers. Never have I gone to a waxing salon and have they done two layers of wax. The last part that got me was when she was ready to do the butt crack area, she was like "oh my god you are hairy"....hello that's the reason why I was there so she could get rid of the hair. Overall my experience was very painful and even hours later I was sore, the following day I was sore, and the day after that. I know waxing can be painful but like I stated earlier I've been to other locations and this has never happen were I have been sore for 3 days. I believe I was sore because of her method of waxing and she honestly didn't know what she doing. Another thing which annoyed the mess out of me was there fact that there were no after care instructions like the other places I have been to and this why I do not recommend a newbie to go here. Remember waxing your cookie will be painful but it should feel as though when you get your eyebrows done 10 second pain and nothing else (that is if you go to a good place as well). P.S. I couldn't even sleep at night with my blanket because it was painful =( read more

I went to Express Waxing a while ago and was debating whether to write a review or not, but I decided I should, so here I go. This was my first time ever waxing and so I was very hesitant in the first place, but after seeing the good ratings and reviews for this waxing salon I decided to give it a try; so I booked to get a bikini wax with Mimi the following day. Once I was there I was greeted and said that I would be assisted soon. I arrived a bit early than what I scheduled for (I didn't want to be late) and I was assisted fairly quickly which was good. I was then taken into a room and the lady told me to undress and she quickly left. I was a bit confused (since it was my first time) and I didn't know whether if I heard her correctly or not. I went with my gut feeling, undressed, and sat on the table. The same lady then entered the room and told me to lay down and guided me on how I should lay. We chatted while she was warming up the wax and once it was ready she told me how to properly breathe, and etc. Everything went well until midway when she actually introduced herself and she said her name was Lynn. I didn't want to be rude, but I was wondering if I booked with Mimi why did I get Lynn? Regardless, I told myself that the person who is helping me shouldn't matter because Lynn was helpful too. During the waxing Lynn asked me if the wax was too hot, and since she took almost everything out (except a couple of hairs I assume) I did say the wax was hot. She turned the heat a bit down, but when she did a second wax it was still fairly hot. I didn't know whether the process was like this so I just kept my thoughts to myself and went through it (which was a bit painful since the hot wax was on my bare skin). Once everything was done Lynn left the room and when I looked at myself Lynn actually gave me a Brazilian wax...not a bikini wax. I didn't know what to do nor did I want to make a scene. In the end I paid the total amount and left. I gave this place 2 stars because I truly think there should be a better system. If I booked with a certain person and picked a certain service, I will be expecting to receive that service. I do know that maybe the person I booked for was probably busy, but if that were the case then someone should have told me or should have given me a choice whether to go with Lynn or wait for Mimi. The workers should confirm what kind of service I am getting and commutate it with with the person who will assist me. Lynn did not ask/confirmed with me if I still wanted the service that I booked for online, which was the bikini wax. Also, while I was paying at the cash register Lynn came over, was talking to the lady at the register, and watched me pay, which made me feel very very uncomfortable. I didn't know whether she was waiting for a tip and or if she just wanted to talk to the other lady, but Lynn kept looking over at my way. When I received my receipt there wasn't an option to give tip nor did I have cash. I felt very bad for not leaving a tip, but I wasn't give that option and Lynn kept looking at me, which made me feel uneasy. Overall, the wax itself was amazing. It made me change my mind about Brazilian waxes, but at the same time I didn't want my first wax to be a Brazilian wax since I knew it was going to hurt. Also, Lynn comforted me throughout the entire process and made me feel better. But at the same time it wasn't what I asked for. read more

Okay folks, I'm a guy. We're allowed to get waxed too! Here is my guy impression. Background: Twice before, I've had my back waxed and because I was into cycling at the time, my legs as well. I decided it was time to get a wax done because I haven't had one for a few years and love the soft smooth sensation. Plus, for those who exercise, it helps with the post workout massages. I haven't had any waxes in the NOVA/DC area and wasn't sure where to go. So, I figured I could wax my legs myself, and after 4 hours and about half a leg I was getting frustrated. Yelp to the rescue! I found her website (www.expresswaxing.com) and after browsing and watching her intro video, I scheduled an appointment. The Pros (pretty much everything from the beginning to the end): 1. Easy to schedule through the web. In a mere 3 minutes, I selected the services I wanted (areas to wax), saw her time/date availability and had an appointment scheduled. The website shows the time required for each service in addition to the price. I thought this was a very neat feature because I was able to schedule other errands knowing how long it will take. 2. Great location, I took the metro and she is only a block from the Ballston Metro. 3. Meeting Sarah was great. I was very nervous walking in, as I thought I was a fish out of water (a guy in women's domain), but Sarah was very warm and friendly. She did not make me feel self-conscious at all. The previous salon I went too seemed like they were grilling me why I wanted my legs waxed and made me feel self-conscious and bad about myself. But Sarah was great from the beginning! She called me hon, gave me a hug/greeting and we were off! 4. The salon was very clean. 5. She's very good and fast, getting stray hairs and making sure a good job is done. In 90 minutes, I was basically bare from my neck down! (except chest and abdomen). 6. She explained a lot of what she does, for example, not double dipping, training for men, etc. 7. The end results are great! She uses a lot of different lotion throughout (after asking about allergies) which I think help with redness and soreness. For example, I had a male Brazilian and she used something with numbing agent first. It stings a bit, but nothing as bad as I thought. There were no residues or anything. Cons: Not really a con because when you schedule an appointment, you get an email with directions, but in case the website is not clear, she is located in Salon Istanbul on the corner of Randolph and 9th. Summary: If you want a fast, professional experience with someone who will make you comfortable, go to Sarah at Express Waxing! I can not stress enough how professional she was and how much she put me at ease. read more

I thought I had my go-to place downtown, but Sarah has far surpassed that and sets a new standard for what a wax experience should be. My eyebrow wax was just ok. I went here because it was close to my job and yelp had a discount which I was grateful for. The price was $15 total for an eyebrow waxing, which I thought was too much but I was already there. While the staff and the lady that did my eyebrows was super pleasant and helpful, I've definitely had a better job done elsewhere. I did appreciate though, that it wasn't as painful as my other waxes have been. Not sure if they use a different type...but the style just wasn't for me. read more

Update! BEWARE OF WHO YOU MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH!!!! Mimi was not available so I got an appointment with Lynn. It was horrible! First of all, the process was long and painful and a day later I was still sore. I have never experienced this and I have been getting bikini waxes for years. Now, a couple weeks later, I am horrified to see that I have A LOT of bumps and ingrown hairs. Like, at least 30. I've never had this happen to me but my friend, who is an aesthetician, said that this can happen when someone waxes you the wrong way. I hate to give such a negative review but my pool just opened and I can't possible go out there looking like this. It will take weeks for the bumps and ingrowns to grow out and heal. I'm very disappointed. I will likely go back but will be sure to ask for Mimi. read more
