I graduated from one of the top universities in America, and I can confidently say that Spencer is better than nearly all of the professors there. Seldom can you find a teacher who is overflowing with knowledge, is able to convey that knowledge concisely and effectively, and manages to not display an ounce of hubris. Not only is he a walking EMS encyclopedia, he genuinely cares for his students. He wants everyone to succeed, and it shows in both the way he teaches the class and how he treats his students. His lax and understanding nature creates a more comfortable environment that fosters growth and learning. After graduating from the class, I feel fully prepared for the NREMT. But more than just an EMT class, I feel that I have learned an incredible amount of practical knowledge that I can utilize for the rest of my career in medicine. For more of the logistical stuff, I took the 5 week full-time course. It's a lot, but it's manageable--especially if you have a background in science. I was able to score above average on all the exams by basically just listening to Spencer's lectures. I PERSONALLY did not feel the need to read the book or go over the PowerPoint slides, but they are both great resources for additional help. I think the fact that I was able to do well in the class simply based on Spencer's lectures is more a reflection on his ability than mine. Random tips: -There is no wifi. So if you want to be connected to the internet, consider getting a Wifi hotspot for a month if you don't have it already -There's a Keurig machine -Don't worry too much about the uniform. You need it before your ride alongs that are scheduled usually 2-5 weeks after the beginning of the course. Of course, you will look goofy if you are the only one not wearing the uniform during class, but don't worry too much if you don't have it prepared by the first day of class -You need to print a lot of things. Just be aware of this and prepare accordingly. -I highly recommend a restaurant called "Tadian". It is super close by, inexpensive, and tasty with great customer service.

Karina helped me with my resume after the first part of the class was over and helped me find my externship. A special thank you to my instructor, Dulce, she was truly one of the highlights of the course. I had her during the second half of the program in person. This was where we were doing hands on learning with injections, blood draws, finger pricks, etc.. She was knowledgeable, funny, patient and always made sure we understood the material. Dulce guided us through the entire process and made sure we were prepared for our externships. I feel confident from what she taught us and definitely will be using the tips and tricks she shared with us. I used MYCAA to attend as my husband is a marine so I attended on a scholarship. I would absolutely recommend this school to anyone pursuing a career in medical assisting.

Ms. Rose was such a great instructor and was able to answer all questions the class and I had. I was super nervous about taking the CNA exam, especially bc I was the last of my class to take it, but thanks to her I was able to pass both the written and manual exams so easily! Definitely worth coming to SDMC(:

I drove down to the school to figure out what's going on and to confirm registration. They require you to pay before you ever get to see the facility or know what you are paying for. **Non refundable**. They keep it so hidden that they lock the doors, make you knock before you can enter and keep the curtains closed . The owner said to come in at 9am to complete registration. I arrive for my 9am appointment, they get my name and suddenly the class is full. I'm not allowed to fill out any paperwork and I am sent on my way. I recommend you run as far away as possible. It's a joke of an establishment and it's far from professional. Anywhere that requires you to pay BEFORE you are ever allowed to even step foot into the facility should be a HUGE red flag. The facilities are old, small and clearly not well managed. There's way too many better options please go elsewhere.

I highly recommend, a great alternative with even better results…read more I'm writing this review on behalf of my son who recently completed the full-time CNA program at Healthcare Science Academy in Chula Vista and I can confidently say it was money well spent. Originally, we looked into a CNA program at a location nearby...they had too many applicants. That's when I searched around the area and found this school, and honestly, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The program was well structured, the instructors were incredibly knowledgeable and supportive and the learning environment was professional and encouraging. He had a thorough clinical rotation at a skilled nursing facility/rehab nearby. My son learned so much during the course and more importantly he PASSED his CNA exam on the first try (btw, he really studied hard and practiced blood pressures, checking respirations and heart rate on each of our family members.) One of the best parts is that all the credits are transferable. He's on track to apply to further his education and pursue a career in nursing. I highly recommend Healthcare Science Academy. They truly care about their students success and provide the tools needed to succeed.
