The owner requested I come back several times to pick up my item as he was not able to get around to fixing it. Finally the item was repaired, however, it was done so by substituting cheap inferior materials to repair an expensive item. After much discussion with the owner as to the fact that the workmanship and materials were unacceptable, he pointed out the sign that says No Refund; No Returns; No Re-dos ..... This owner is disingenuous; dis-honorable; unfair and highly incompetent. He demands Cash up front - the shop can't take credit cards - are they actually legit? In return, I walked away feeling cheated; suckered and humiliated. :(

The first time they repaired a broken heel and the second visit I had two pairs of boots repaired (one the back heel repaired and the second, replaced the soles). I don't remember how much I paid for the heel repair but for two pairs of boots I paid $75 which considering the cost of materials they aren't charging much for their labour. Both repairs are well done, I'm super satisfied. The best thing about this shop is the family that owns the business. It's a father and two sons. Their positivity and passion for their trade is enough to make your day. That might sound really cheesy but if you go there you'll know what I'm talking about! I'll be back to bring back other leather belts that I want to fix and shorten. They let me know that they can fix almost anything, the guy told me that they just repaired a canvas tarp so that should help explain with what type of stuff they can repair. They are located in Marlborough Mall, the shop is actually tucked behind the mall bathrooms, so walk in that direction and you'll see the shop at the end of the hall. I remember them being there when I was a kid, so it's been around for a while! This is the type of mom and pop shop that Calgary should support, this isn't some random hipster start-up but a genuine long-standing business that provides a real service! (The only reason I'm giving 4 stars to this place is they have a woman working at the desk that you have to deal with...I only saw her the second time, so I hope she's not around permanently. She was pretty petty with no concept of how her disposition hurt the business' reputation to new patrons, if they only were to deal with her.) Other than that aspect, I don't hold anything against who will actually performs the repairs. I hope I can do my part to get the word out for these guys, they deserve it!

I walked in the front door and down the stairs and was immediately greeted by an older gentleman, who I suspect is probably the owner. I showed him the broken strap and he assured me that they could fix it, and that it would take about 2 days. He told me $30 to which I balked at (the bag was from Value Village originally...) and he dropped it to $20. Great. You do need to pre-pay here and they give you a pickup slip. I was then sick for the next few days and he called me twice to make sure I knew when they were closing for the holidays so that i could pick it up beforehand. When I came back the bag was ready and I couldn't tell which one had been broken before. In short: super convenient location for repairs, but not necessarily the cheapest.

Then walk to the back of the mini shopping complex and it's on your left. It's open until 6pm everyday and closed on Mondays. The longer version: I phoned three different alteration places listed in Chinatown initially. One was closed, another's phone number was out of service, and this one. When I phoned, the phone was answered with 'Hello', but it was the right number for the business so don't be put off if this also happens to you. I checked that they were still in the same location and the time they were open until (6pm) and walked on down. The bars were closed when I got there (5:30pm) but the girl (who appeared to be the daughter who answered the phone) took my pants, my name and my phone number. I explained what I wanted done and she said that her mother would phone the next day to let me know how long it would take and the price. I was initially quoted 4 - 6 days and $8 - $13 for the hem. Turns out since I only wanted one leg resewn rather than hemmed it was $3 and 24 hours. Plus I tied this in with a takeaway dinner from Han's Kitchen nearby, and now have my work pants ready for the cooler days.
