So I recently moved to Ukiah this month. I had heard there was pizza at a gas station in town. Well that threw me of tract. This place is located in a convenience store on North State Street at Lake Mendocino Drive. FIND this place! The pizza is the real deal. Wood oven stuff with just a kiss of char on the crust. Ok so I don't often leave reviews as anyone can tell. However I feel I must make my opinion be known with this pizza place. I had read the Yelp reviews on this place and so I gave it a try. Got a Margarita, a Sonora, and a couple meatball subs. OMG, the pizza crust had the perfect chew and just the right amount of char. The cheese had good pull on every bite. The pizza was not too wet, not too dry, but just right. My wife and I are foodies and have had pizza all over the country...Express Pizza, inside the mini mart gives any pizzeria we've ever been to a run for their money. I know, crazy right?... in Mendo? Wow! Wow again! (Two wows is the most anything ever gets) I had my first one the other day and was blown away. The crust is perfect - just the right thickness and texture, with delicate charring on the edges. The sauce is properly seasoned and spread edge to edge, where it belongs. Cheese and Toppings (we had the Combination) all high quality, fresh and delicious. Best pizza in Mendocino County.... Perhaps even Northern California. I have driven past this place for a while and always assumed it was just like any other convenience store pizza. That said, I couldn't have been more wrong. On this note, I finally gave it a chance and found myself looking at an artisan style pizza that beat any high end pizza in the area; such as, cultivo, Ukiah Brewery, or stock farm in hopland. I never do food reviews; however, I felt compelled to write this; considering how good this pizza was. Let me put it this way.... having this pizza is like experiencing that scene at the end of the Pixar movie, ratatouille, where the mean food critic takes one bite of his meal and instantly has an epiphany about how good it is. I stopped in here on my way to visit relatives In Ukiah I got off the 101 to get drinks and stumbled across this place. We placed an order for 2 pizzas to go and everything was very fresh despite the convenience store location. They also had a good selection of microbrews. All and all not what I would have thought but pretty cool. This will definitely become a permanent stop on our next trip up north. read more
