George, who I believe is the owner, was extremely helpful and put my bike together when it arrived boxed up from the states. This is a fantastic bike shop, with a nice selection of bikes from cruisers to roadies to climbers. They also do repairs on bikes, for what seemed like reasonable prices to me. George told me he would have my bike finished within two days and I got a call 7hours later that it was ready, so not only are they reasonable but timely as well! If you are a novice cycler or a pro, West End Cycles is worth a visit!

This is a a very good place with excellent services and very help but I just bought some brand new…read moreschwalbe lugano tyres 1 day ago and went out the next and got a puncture in them and on closer inspection one of the tyres seemed to have a manufacturing flaw and seemed slightly frayed in the inside of the tyre wall at one particular point which was a little disappointing for less than a day old tyre. Ok I could have possibly gone over something hard but i was road biking and on the road. This is a very good shop overall but on this occasion was disappointed. I got a new tyre at Magic Cycles at Bowling and even he said the tyre was frayed/damaged.

!!!Avoid dangerous bikes for hire!!! I hired a Silex bike…read morefor a gravel race. Initial communication and booking the bike was straightforward. Arrived at the shop to be presented with a bike covered dirt and with the drivetrain covered in mud/gunk. I was informed that I should give the bike a good checking over for frame damage as I will be charged for anything outwith a stone chip.......bit difficult to do given the bike was so dirty. I took the bike home and checked over the bike at the first available time which was the evening. After scraping the dirt of drivetrain and giving it a clean it was obvious at this point the bike had not seen any lubrication let alone a service in quite sometime. I should have called the shop in the morning but given that I was racing in the morning with friends I didn't want miss out and assumed that it was just a case of the shop being a bit busy to prepare the bike correctly. We started the race in the morning and all was well. After the first 20k the front brake started to fail, I had to pull the lever further and further back every time I had to break. After another 20k or so the brake was useless, even if I pulled the level to the bars it didn't do anything...........one final pull and the front caliper failed. Upon inspection the front pad was worn to the metal. The event mechanicals didn't carry spares (circular pads) and informed me that I could not continue the race and I was sent back to HQ..........it would be an understatement to say that I was disappointed. Took the bike back to the shop the next day where I explained my issues to the staff (Richie) and to my amazement I was met with nothing but obnoxious and belittling replies. As far as they were concerned the bike had left the shop in perfect working order and that was as far as their duty of care went. When I asked Richie when the pads were checked he commented "I don't need to tell you that", I ask him before hire bikes go out what checks do they go through, is there a checklist, etc they he replied "I don't need to tell you that, I'm satisfied the bike was checked". At this point he started to find the issue funny by commenting that his mum could do a better job at fixing the brake implying that there was no issue with the pads and that the two onsite event mechanicals who checked over the bike (and had shown me the worn pads) were wrong. When I replied if it was so easy to fix the brake perhaps he could fix it now to alleviate my concerns he replied "I don't need to do that for you". I finally asked Richie to pop out the front pads so that he could satisfy himself that they were fine and so that I could take a picture of their condition he replied "I don't need to do that for you". He was obviously concerned that I would share the images. All in all a thoroughly disgusting way to treat a customer who had expressed concerns about safety. At no point did I feel that they took my concerns seriously. If you value your safety I'd steer clear of Cyclelane.

Willy Bain = awesome.My clubmates and I use Willy's shop primarily for his servicing skills - good…read morepriced and timely. Just drop the bike off and he will do it when gets around to it - this is a one man run business and depends on how many bikes has in the shop (and I've seen it with only enough space for one customer to get in and out of the door avec bike!) but usually only a couple of days turnaround. Bike back good as new!

I was asked to wait a week before doing so as he was going on holiday. I gladly said I'd wait, I turn up the following Monday expecting just to drop the bike off knowing it would be about a week before I would get it back. On my arrival I was told then that it wasn't possible as they had taken too many jobs on and had nowhere to keep the bike. Not exactly the service I was hoping for, as much as I'm sure the workmanship and value is good, I'd rather pay a bit more than use someone who just disregards my custom like that. I'm not sure why you agree to something and verbally confirm it is booked in just to have someone turn up and then tell them no. That's unacceptable in my opinion and I won't go back.

The…read morefirst time I went in years ago I was really stupid and was too concerned about the look of the bike rather than making sure it was the correct size for me and woudl do all I wanted it to do I went for one that was a bit too big for my frame and the guy mentioned this to me and suggested others more in my size, but did I listen? No. He was right. I was never comfortable on the bike as I had too much of a stretch to gthe handlebars which seems like nothing at first but when you have been out for a while you really feel it uncomfortable. I ended up getting a sore neck every time I went out and qucikly went off the idea. The more recent time I went in, I actually listened to all the advice, and asked loads of questions which they readily answered. The got the bike in for me in no time and as it is a ladies fit, is the perfect stretch! They have plenty of bikes to choose from and loads of brochures, so will get one in for you if not in stock. He was busy when I came along with my gammy rear wheel, and having only a little workshop I was unable to leave it with him. Instead I was booked in for the Wednesday (I'd come in on the Saturday) to have my wheel fixed. Come Wednesday, Harry dropped the bike off before heading for his shift at work, and I rushed down from Easterhouse as fast as I could by public transport to retrieve my bike before the shop closed. I got there with 5 minutes to spare! But the door was already locked. CURSES! So I chapped the door most persistently since the lights were still on and finally I was let in. The broken spokes had been fixed. The new spokes were in a different colour, but I wasn't really going to complain about that. What did annoy me, and has annoyed me about other shops, is that there was a problem that incurred more expense for me but I wasn't informed beforehand. Apparently my rear quick release had jammed and had to be cut off so that the wheel could be removed. So there was also a cost for replacing the quick release. When a shop has your phone number, they really should tell you when there's a problem... It's not really fair to ambush someone when they come to get their bike. It wasn't a great deal more money, but that's not really the point. Anyway, a few days later another of my spokes broke a couple of days after that. One of the Halfords engineers who was offering free checks told me that the tension in the spokes was wrong, and one of the new spokes had pressed at a bad angle against the now broken one... TLDR: the job was done quickly when a spot became available for me, but I was ambushed for a replacement part, and the job seems to have caused another problem - not going to hold that against the rating because the other engineer used the words 'seems' a lot, which meant he wasn't sure.

Clarkston Cycle Centre has been open for over 28 years, so they really know their stuff. Bikes for all ages can be found here including an extensive range of flashy looking mountain bikes. So if you're looking for a new bike or for someone to fix that pesky puncture, this is the place!

I only ended up here after my man wanted to check out what they had on offer. He bought a bike a…read morewhile ago but he's not 100% happy with it so was looking for some advice. The guy was brand new and knew his stuff. He used to volunteer but managed to secure some funding to get a full time position. His passion for the project really came across and made you also feel enthusiastic. They are based just off Argyle Street, West End side, and is a fair size. I couldn't stop gopping round the place. It's a pretty cool establishment and I love the fact that it's a social enterprise. There's a front and back workshop, sales floor and a mezzanine level storing more bikes. There's also a sewing project enterprise on the mezzanine, I can't remember what they were called. The guy said there was talk of turning part of it into a cafe, I think this would be a fantastic idea. I hope they do. They take in old bikes, work their magic and produce just like new bikes. They had some quite decent ones on display but note they do change frequently. I saw a cracking pink one for £75. Ooh tempting! I do have a bike, one I've had from my early teens and it's alright. I would like to get it checked though and see if it's road worthy as it's longing to be ridden. They can help you or you can have access yourself on certain days for £4 per hour and use the facilities to fix up your bike yourself. It's a great idea and I highly recommend popping along. Have been a few times to this skatepark over the last few months and had a consistently awesome…read moretime on each visit. Even though I'm pretty rubbish so far I've never been scoffed at or felt unwanted and park regulars have been happy to watch me ride and give little tips and tricks Staff are super friendly and chatty. Park is well maintained and foam pit is always open. At night there is no cafe to get snacks so bring snacks and drinks with you. Kit bags can be stored on the mum and dad benches right beside the track and I've always felt safe leaving my semi valuables in my bag there. Was particularly impressed tonight when a member of staff (Pete I think) challenged me to a shot in the foam pit. Me?!? Scary stuff! However I like to live by 'if it's not scary it's not fun' so I was game for a wee adrenaline buzz. Normally they would charge for personal tuition but this lovely man coached myself and two other adults into the pit. He even got a backflip out of one of us! Please give it a try if you're up for a laugh. BMX, scooters and skateboards can be rented from staff. Lessons can be booked if you feel really unsafe. You'll have a great time. Just remember a helmet - brains are important!

Turns out that it is Go Green Week and Glasgow University Environmental Club and Glasgow University Climate Action were doing stuff including inviting De'ils on Wheels along to fix bikes. They are a Charity that does stuff like recycling bike parts; cycling events and activities; training courses for cycling on road and cycle mechanics. Awesome! So they fixed the crunchy, groany, growling noise my bike has been making lately and they alerted me to some very worn brake blocks. I am planning to head over there, get them fixed and tell you more.
