We were walking through Winthrop to stop at the game store next door and noticed Express Burritos. We were the only ones there at 11am on a Friday morning, were greeted the moment we walked in. The menu is impressive, the restaurant is small but boasts enough tables to service a good amount of people and there is a TV on the wall for entertainment. New ownership as of May, 2017 as I was told on my fourth or fifth visit here. Love the food, the family who now owns the business are very friendly and helpful. I've had the beef burrito which was tightly wrapped, not too salty and did not fall apart when I picked it up. Excellent - and a good serving size. Have also had the Parillada which consists of shrimp, beef, chicken, sausage, rice beans and salad ( I posted a photo ). What a great meal! Also have enjoyed the chicken plate and just recently tried the chicken soup - fantastic. Am certain I'll be returning on a regular basis. As a side note the owner mentioned they would continue renovations on Sundays when they are closed. They've a lot planned for the interior so expect some changes. Based on my visits I'd have to say the older reviews are now irrelevant as this is an entirely different business. Same types of food, some additions, but far better quality. I stopped in and had a chicken burrito and it was absolutely delicious! The chicken had great flavor and I enjoyed the the variety of toppings. I really wanted to walk into the place the other yelpers reviewed, but got this horribly dirty hole in the wall with endless visible health code violations instead. I wanted to love it, seeing how burritos are the greatest food on Earth and Anna's hasn't made it out this far (I cry about it everyday). Sadly, I won't be coming back. First the food: Got a carnitas burrito. While the guy steamed the tortilla and made my boyfriend's burrito, he yelled to the back to someone to get the carnitas ready. When he started to make mine, yelled for it again, and then proceeded to walk my tortilla out of the room and into a back room. When he emerged, the carnitas was on the tortilla. I didn't question it until I was eating it. Super dried out cubed chunks of meat with way more fat and gristle than meat. No flavor besides being super salty. Now I gotta ask: what IS this freakishly grey inedible meat you call carnitas?! Where did you go get it from? The microwave? The trash? Forget it, I don't want to know. Rice was mushy, pico was so so. Finally the sanitation: I get that the place is super small and cramped, but there is no excuse for keeping a place where you serve food looking the way this place does! Visibly dirty walls and floors and counter space with clutter everywhere. Even if I could look past all of that, what I couldn't get over was the man making our food. Yes, he wore plastic gloves, which I was glad to see, but he proceeded to touch EVERYTHING from the food to the register, to the money, to the phone without ever replacing or even rinsing or removing them! What is the point of wearing the gloves? For appearances? To keep your own hands from getting dirty? Yuck. read more

I live down the street from this place and it has become a go-to spot. The food is amazing, I've tried to order something different every time and I haven't been disappointed yet! I think this is the only spot around that makes their own tortillas, definitely superior to a lot of Boston and Cambridge spots (I can't speak for East Boston). Excellent Mexican street food right here in Winthrop. We just ordered for the first time and I can't believe we had not tried it sooner! This is a small shop with one woman up front and one cooking to order in the back (at least when were there). I ordered the steak burrito which was excellent. The steak was tender, grilled and well seasoned. My wife ordered the Mexican beef tacos and Pastelitos Dominicanos which she said were both excellent. A side bonus is that they have large bottles of Mexican Coke right in the cooler. We will definitely be ordering for Express Burrito again and we highly recommend it. read more

When this place opened up I was excited because my husband and I love Mexican food. That being said I will never eat here again. We each got a burrito and loved that we could see them make your order in front of you. For a new place, I expected it to be cleaner. When we got home with our order we dug in! It looked good. It was just ok. Then in the middle of eating his burrito my husband pulled a twist tie out of his mouth! Yuck! Nothing like a little metal in your meal. No thanks! This was my first time here and mixed feelings. I ordered the beef burrito, a pupusa and a tamale. The burrito was basically flavorless all I could taste was the cheese and sour cream and the steak was kinda funky and fatty I only ate half. The tamale and the pupusa were great! Worse Costumer Service ever!!! I'm pregnant and i was craving tacos in Winthrop since la Siesta is close i decided to give a try at this place, my boyfriend call to order some tacos and when the lady answer the phone he try to place the order but because he only speak English she hung up the phone because she only speak Spanish, he try to stop her because I speak Spanish so I can place the order but she already hung up the phone, I decided to call again and ask her why she was so rude and her answer was "We don't speak English" I decided to let it go and order my tacos, since I don't like corn tortillas I order my tacos in flour tortillas instead, she took the order and everything was fine, when my boyfriend got home I realize that they send me corn tortillas so after everything I decide to call again, answer the same lady so I explain to her that she send me corn tortillas when I specify 20 min ago that I want flour tortillas, she answer to me really rude that they don't have flour tortillas for tacos because the owner didn't buy flour tortillas and they only have "Mexican style" I try to ask her why did she say yes to me but she hung up the phone again my boyfriend dont like tacos al pastor so i lost my money , she Basically don't speak English and Neither Spanish, awful costumer service ever!!!! read more
