Small but comfortable thanks to red leather banquetes, a tiled floor beneath brass ceilings and walls full of art, it is from a paper ledger that reservations are confirmed prior to seating at wood tables that require being slid aside to gain access. A locals sort of place, though the menu does offer English translations, fans of Bistro fare will find all the staples complimented by daily specials while the Wine list runs long yet quite affordable. Well-suited to families, especially on Sundays when so few Parisian Restaurants are open all day, starters come in the form of Escargot or French Onion Soup plus sizable slabs of Foie Gras and the chunky sort of housemade Terrine one rarely encounters outside of France. Far more affordable than tourist favorites, its place in the 11th undoubtedly part of the reason, main plates see Confit Duck done well without any fuss while Pepper Steak and Sweetbreads in reduced Soy are generous in terms of portion and flavor. Not a spot to skip Dessert, all but Ice Cream made on site, Chez Paul's Baba is denser than Ducasse's but no less delicious while the Œufs à la neige and Tarte Tatin are each classics prepared the right way.

Everything was cooked to perfection, the service was impeccable, and the restaurant itself had a truly authentic homey feel. I highly recommend checking this place out if you are in Paris.

The dining rooms were themed to represent cities and regions in France. And they are exquisite from floor to ceiling. I was told to make sure I made a reservation about a month in advance. I did not, I wasn't sure of my timing through the station. But there's a way to still enjoy the beauty and eat. Le Train Bleu also offers a bar area. Here there are several small lounges with luxury interiors. It is possible to sit in one of these areas, but you may have to wait. My timing was perfect. A 5 minute wait. The cozy spot had gorgeous dark paneling and felt so warm on a December day. The service is impeccable no matter where you sit. The bar menu is quite toned down from the restaurant area. Lighter bites for travelers in between trains. I am a croque Monsieur addicted and wanted one last one before leaving Paris. The presentation was very different from the traditional ones at most bistros. This one was rolled tight and sliced into sections. Still delicious ham and Emmental goodness. A fresh salad was on the side. A bowl of mixed olives arrived shortly after being seated to nibble on while waiting on the meal. Next visit, I enjoy the main dining room!!!

We made reservations which was much needed as it was packed on a Tuesday night. The decor was vivid and attractive in that old French style. I ordered the duck frois gras as a starter and the leg of lamb as my main course. The server brought us a small custard of what I believe may have been pumpkin. It was okay. The bread was okay. The frois gras was different than what I have had before (more of a solid pâté with little apricot cubes and an en croute). It was fine. The lamb shank was carved in front of us. It was tender and good. For dessert, I ordered the Crepes Suzette. They were also prepared table side, and it was a nice production. Fire and fun watching. The food here was okay, but you go for the decor, the scene, the "show." It seems to be a must do (at least once).
