Extremely Disappointed: Poor Workmanship, Property Damage & Repeated No-Shows…read moreShellaby Air Conditioning in Rockport replaced our AC unit approximately two years ago. Since that installation, we have had them back numerous times because our home has never cooled properly. Our most recent experience has been completely unacceptable.
On August 12, Jason, the owner's son, came to service our AC. He recommended replacing all of the ductwork in our attic because our home is over 20 years old. We agreed and scheduled the work to begin Thursday, August 20, with completion by Monday, August 24. We were told we would be without AC during the work, so we made arrangements to be away from our home during that time.
When we returned the evening of August 24, a technician was still at our home and was turning the AC on for the FIRST TIME since the work began five days earlier. He told us he would return the following day to finish installing the vent covers and reconnect our UV light. He never showed up or called. Because our home was still extremely hot, we had to make arrangements to stay elsewhere again that night.
When we returned and had an opportunity to inspect our home and the work, we were shocked by what we found.
There appeared to have been little to no effort made to protect our home while the old ductwork was being removed from the attic. We found damage to walls, door trim, baseboards and ceilings. Someone had stepped on the sheetrock from inside the attic, cracking our hallway ceiling and causing three ceiling lights to drop from the ceiling. Insulation and debris were left throughout our home. Dirty ductwork had been dragged through the house, leaving dirt and stains on our bedroom linens and white linen sofa, duct mastic/sealant was tracked onto our pine wood floors and left to dry in our kitchen sink. Dirty handprints were left around nearly every ceiling vent they worked on. Several vent covers were improperly installed or unsecured, leaving visible gaps between the vents and sheetrock. Some vents were not replaced at all, while other openings were left completely uncovered.
We immediately contacted David Falconnier, the owner of Shellaby Air Conditioning, regarding the condition of our home and the damage. He initially made no effort to come inspect the damage until we demanded that someone do so. We were told that Jason, who had scheduled the job and was supposed to supervise it, had been on vacation while the work was being performed and therefore was not there to supervise the crew. David acknowledged problems with the work, took responsibility for the damage, and told us they would make it right.
The following day, David sent his daughter to do some cleaning, which did little to address the extent of the mess and damage. Some paint was also dropped off, but that was essentially where the corrective work stopped.
It has now been 19 DAYS.
No one has repaired the damaged sheetrock.
No one has completed the necessary painting or repaired the damaged wood trim.
No one has properly installed or replaced the missing vents.
No one has reconnected the UV light that was disconnected from our AC unit.
And our AC still will not cool our home below approximately 75 degrees.
During this time, we were informed that several Shellaby employees had contracted COVID and were unable to work. We certainly understand that employees can become ill. However, Shellaby continued servicing other customers throughout the Coastal Bend during this same period, while our damaged and unfinished home
continued to be pushed aside.
During these 19 days, we repeatedly informed Shellaby that our AC was still not cooling properly. We were told someone would come out the following day to check it. That appointment was also a no-show/no-call.
With no resolution, we went into the attic ourselves to inspect the work and discovered even more concerns: standing water in the AC pan, which appeared to have been stepped on and bent; excessive condensation; cold air leaking around vents and ductwork; water dripping from the copper refrigerant line; duct sealant that remained wet and sticky; sections of ductwork that had not been replaced; and the access door used to change the AC filter had been sealed shut, making it impossible for us to replace the filter.
We immediately reported these concerns and sent photos as well.
Last week, after numerous calls and messages, we were promised and scheduled to have the HVAC issues and damage addressed today, 19 days later. Once again--NO SHOW. NO CALL.
We have given Shellaby numerous opportunities to address this situation before posting a negative review. We did not expect perfection. Mistakes happen. What we absolutely expected was professional workmanship, respect for our home, accountability when something went wrong, and basic communication.
Instead, we have been left with property damage, questionable and incomplete ductwork, an AC system that still does not ade
