I needed a copy of my daughter's driver's ed certificate and he chraged me $25 to replce the orginal he sent out. My daughter did not includ eour apartment number, so i was charged $25 to replace it. I didn't mind doing that, but Bruce had me call him only to tell me i hit the innocrrect button on his website-ugh. And then it took several more phones in order to correc this issue. Bruce took my daughter out on one driving lesson. He spoke to her about how America is not how it use to be and what a bad direction this country is going in. He had her run his errands for him. Making her stand outside the car while he went into the bank and a few other places. He told her she had to schedule the next appointment before the lesson was over and that it needed to be done in 2 weeks. He likes to just get the lessons done and move on, not worrying about when she was ready for move driving skills. He also told her he does not take kids on the freeway. For her second lesson, she came down with a fever the morning of the lesson after a few covid exposures at school. I called him to reschedule as soon as he opened that morning. He told me he did not mind taking a child with a 101 fever in his car and lets just get it done. I explained to him my concerns about the first lesson and he got upset and told me I am getting personal. Also told me he is unhappy with how "left" the country is going, but he is a proud American. I asked for a refund for the remaining two lessons, and he refused. Again, telling me lets just get the lessons done. I will not send my daughter in his car and will do what I can to recover my money. This is why he is a pay upfront, cash or check only company. Stay away! read more

I was able to pass my test within 12 hrs of lessons (plus 12 hrs of driving on my own time - highway and street time) on my first try. Bruce is calm during those first rocky lessons and helps you refine your skills as you get comfortable behind the wheel. My only critique is that he can be very opinionated and verbally aggressive when he feels strongly about a topic (and he always feels strongly) which made sitting through lessons very draining. His personality can be abraisive. He made me cry during our first lesson and was rude to the DMV employee when I went in to take my test and it was embarrassing. But, if you're up for dealing with that, his lessons go for the cheapest rate and he really knows his stuff. His technical skill and attention to detail make all the difference. I appreciate the instruction in driving and would not have passed my test without professional guidance!!! Bruce also let me rent his car for the actual DMV test and picked me up and dropped me off at home before and after every lesson. Honestly, he gets the job done and you'll pass with his help, but if you have the money, I'd recommend another company. I felt very uncomfortable most of the time and like I had to be silent to protect myself from verbal attack. To me it was worth it, I got the professional help I paid for, but I wouldn't put my child through it and certainly would not recommend any of my friends to him, which hurts me to say because I think Bruce really is an expert and knows what he's doing on the road. It's just like... yeah, he gets angry easily and I felt unsafe to be myself on more than one occasion. He tries to be very personal but then he isn't approachable and is judgmental so I had to ask him to just focus on my driving or else just let him talk and not really engage with my own thoughts. I just got hung up on twice by this owner, Bruce, when trying to book an appt for my daughter for behind the wheel. It is December 23rd now and he was infuriated that I wanted to schedule her after Christmas vacation. Definitely don't recommend this driving school for anyone. Rather than giving you tips to fix your issues as NEW DRIVERS, he yells at you and practically calls you dumb. I just call this number twice 619-885-7777 (April 4, 2022) to try to arrange for serving lessons for my kid. The man wants a full payment but does not want to schedule lessons for two weeks away during non school hours. He just wanted to schedule one lesson. When I stated, I don't feel comfortable paying for a full package and unable to schedule, this man stated he does not have time to negotiate and hung up on me. When I called back, he hung up again. I called back just to be sure I was not hung up on, and he did it again. He is not an appropriate person to giving driving lessons to teenagers. I am actually glad he acted this way. Bruce made me terrified to be in the car and even after I got my license, I was still terrified to drive. Not only did he hit my hand while I was driving but he also always tries to engage in political conversations that I personally didn't agree with but I never said anything because I was so sad to disagree with him and he also talked about his deep personal life while yelling at me when I made a mistake. He has very racist views and he tries to tell you about controversial history, but it's completely false information. I took the driving lesson from this company for 6 hours training (3 days, 2 hours per session) with the owner as driving instructor. From the first moment of the phone conversation to set up the appointment, I should have known that there is something wrong. He straightly asked about my racial background for whatever the reason was. On the next day of first driving session, this individual has shown more unprofessional behaviors towards me including continuously asking personal questions including my marital status, relationship background and information which I did not respond of course. I said those are personal and he was being inappropriate to me. He said he did not mean to and kept talking on and on. During the whole (that supposedly) driving lesson experience, he kept talking about his beliefs, making remarks about his other ex or current driving students from certain racial backgrounds, his personal matters and issues with his personal matters, and the most annoyingly comments about religions, politics and other beliefs but his which are all wrong in his opinion. He continuously said that he is not bias or racist, but the more he speaks, the more racist he became. I understand that America is the land of freedom and we all have free speech but calling out other religions, other races than white to the customers who paid fully to learn is not acceptable and very distracting especially when I have to be behind the wheel driving. I've tried to respond wisely, objective and be polite about this but he kept going on and on to make his remarks. Furthermore, in the second session, I told him at the beginning of the lesson that I'd like more pointers for the driving (the polite way to show that I do not wish extra personal conversations). He did give me more pointers but at the same time still eagerly talked and tried to engage me to respond to his personal matters, religion and race topic nonstop. The last session I was more annoyed because he kept talking and when giving me pointers sometimes being rude, as I did not know anything and when I stood up he said that I don't know anything, he knows everything and I was being disrespectful for responding. He then told me that he was giving me a favor for teaching me driving techniques and I do not appreciate him which is not true. I paid him more than $200 for the services and I deserve to get the driving lesson, not bear all his unprofessional attitudes. I was being cautious especially as a new driver on the road and taking his pointers fully while I have to keep my concentration with a lot of distractions coming from him, who supposedly teaching me. If all business owners and people are like this, I do not think and wish to be a customer. From the beginning he talked badly about certain race of students that he had, I will not be surprised if he talked badly about my race as well to the next person/students. Not that I care, but it proves how un-professional he is. I'm writing this review not to bring down his business but I want changes for the better, for himself and his business. San Diego as well as other part of the United States have many people, including people of color with different beliefs, faith and cultures. We are totally satisfied with Expert driving school. Bruce was a very good instructor, had a safe car, arrived on time, and very professional. He carefully taught our son rules of the road, and what to expect at DMV test. He spaced the appointments out a little, and picked our son up from school twice to practice driving nearby during busy times. COMPLETE FRAUD !!!!!!!!!!!! This person is absolutely horrible. My daughter completed the online portion and never received the certificate. Her test is tomorrow. I called Bruce to verify that he mailed the certificate and had to deal with a very loud, rude and unprofessional idiot. He refused to verify the address he mailed it to because he had already left it in a voicemail. I asked if I could pick the certificate up, he said it would be a fee involved, but he said he would be nice and give me a "discount". Immediately I regretted not following my intuition about this guy. He accused me of losing the certificate because according to him "90 percent" of people lose it. Sounds like he has 90 percent of his customers not receiving what they paid for. After dealing with him I called other driving schools and told them my situation. Well, I have to say that I am glad that I did NOT check Yelp first before hiring Bruce; especially in regards to the comments about making MINOR females feel like they are getting 'hit on' by Bruce. My daughter has model like good looks and NEVER once felt like Bruce was inappropriate with her in any way, shape or form. That was in January and then we hired Bruce again yesterday for a 'brush up' class before her actual driving test which was today and guess what? She passed with flying colors, close to a perfect score and the DMV tester even wrote 'Great Job!' on her test paper :) !!!!!! Maybe I have adopted more of a 'tough love' type of parenting style over the years; but if Bruce has to raise his voice or act firm with my child I am ALL for it. Wanted ZERO stars for Bruce on behalf of my friend who had a horrifying experience with him. Since she's from another country she felt he was being a racist towards her. I practice with her already for 2 hours she was driving ok but I know that she needs more time and that's why she paid someone to teach her. However, she is not bad to the point where she deserves to be treated like that. She had paid for the full lessons and only had 2 hours time with Bruce. He kept yelling at her which made her cry. After that first lesson she was so terrified to be in the car with him and was reluctant to return. He however, kept texting her to book a lesson and After a week she thought she give him another try and didn't want to lose her money BUT this time was WORSE! He kept yelling at her for not putting in more time to practice and and it got to the point where she couldn't take it anymore because she felt she was in danger. Her fear of him and his anger issues made her stopped the car and ran out. She had to call her friends to take her for a ride home. She will not use him anymore or recommend him to anyone. I would choose zero stars if possible. We had an extremely distasteful, unprofessional, and bewildering experience with Bruce, the owner of Expert Driving School. My son set up the classes on his own, and after the first lesson of two hours came home underwhelmed. He said he felt like Bruce yelled a lot. At that point, I wished I had done more research into in-car driver's training. They scheduled a second lesson, and that's where the real issues started to appear. My son felt like Bruce yelled a lot, and just wanted to get the lesson over with. He also didn't feel like Bruce provided any helpful tips beyond what my husband and I were providing. At the end, Bruce wanted to schedule the third and final lesson for two weeks out. I had asked my son to space it out further, to do another lesson somewhat closer to the date he would be getting his license. Bruce told him that was a bad idea, and he might not be available then. This raised a red flag to me because it felt manipulative. If you're available in two weeks, why wouldn't you be in 3 months? I called him to reschedule at that point and had the most unprofessional, unhinged conversation of my adult life. I enquired about how much we had paid, and what the value of the third lesson would be, because I was considering finding a new provider for the last training. This set him off on a completely insane 30 minute diatribe. Informing me he doesn't do refunds, because he doesn't think he needs to. Asking me why I'm trying to make him feel bad? Yelling, cutting me off, asking me if my husband knows I'm calling him, telling me he thinks the lessons are going fine and so why don't we just do the third one. It went on and on. At this point, I was so unimpressed that I was willing to lose the remaining $105 for the last lesson. Bruce wouldn't even give me information on how to get documentation of the 4 hours my son had completed so that I could find a new provider for the last two hours. It ended with him yelling about how he doesn't deserve this, and he's not giving any refunds. The situation deteriorated further. After ending my call with Bruce, he called my 15 year old son to complain to him, and ask him why his mother was creating such a problem. I got on the call to remind Bruce that he's calling and harassing a minor, and that he was not to call him again. He yelled at me to chill out, and proceeded to verbally abuse us both again. Repeating the same things over and over. We waited a day, and had my husband call him just to try and get the documentation that our son had completed 4 hours. Bruce became verbally aggressive and abusive immediately and told him that he would only give us the documentation if we promised to not write negative reviews. Obviously we were not willing to make such an agreement. At this point we are out all the money we paid.
