I'd not offer advice on whether or not to visit them, as the tropical fish pond is kind of shallow in Valdosta, so more options, even if not perfect makes the hobby stronger. My experience - I was told by another shop to give them a visit. When I entered the "lobby" was cramped and dark. No one was at the register, and from what I could tell there were three people working in the store, with 6 guests, including myself. 2 of the 3 were engaged with a lady who went on about her fish experiences, and with the rest of us standing around, at no point did the elder male, or the Latino (?) lady attempt to break away from that conversation. The other employee was doing tank servicing, and without that, their inventory does not last (so hats off). I had been standing there for 15-20 minutes before I was told to be patient. Having driven from Live Oak FL to N. Valdosta specifically for fish and aquarium rock, I was being overly patient, because I did not want to waste the trip. Even though I saw active tank or water maintenance, most of the tanks were not well kept. I was there for salt life, hoping for Live Rock, but nothing in their tanks looked appealing, or new tank friendly (durable). There prices, of those I saw, were actually pretty good. During the 30ish minutes I was in there the lady I'm guessing was a regular customer never stopped talking, and the older guy never made eye or vocal contact with anyone else. All customer service was relegated to the lady providing the critical service of tank and wildlife care. I'm a one and done with them, and will invest my time heading to Tallahassee (High Tide) or Gainesville (Aquatropics). Valdosta does have another option, and it's run out of the guys back garage - Imperial Reef. He has a great set up, all be it small, it is well designed (call before you go because he's not yet doing salt water and supplies full time yet. What an amazing fish store with great customer service. We were hit by a hurricane we've had no power no water no internet ect for 3 days. Serve pro had to come in because of flooding. The dehumidifiers would have destroyed the tanks and fish. These awesome people took in our fish and been housing them feeding them and keeping them alive. Till things can get back to normal. Place has been here for years. And you can tell when you walk in ;) lots of fish, salt and fresh, corals, accessories, tanks, stands, etc.. It's kinda dark and needs some cleaning. The owner is very knowledgeable about fish and tank set ups. It's not the clean bright display of say a PetSmart but PetSmart doesn't have salt water or 1/10th the knowledge over there either. I like supporting the local guy more than the big box store too. read more

I really like going here the staff really knows there stuff and will go the extra mile to help you out. Sometimes this might mean you have to wait your turn but doing things right the first time is the fastest way in my opinion. If they are helping someone else when you walk in just take the time to look over the inventory as they seem to have new/different fish and items each time I visit. Unlike many other fish places they wont sell you fish unless they know they are healthy. They will quarantine sick or new fish to ensure you get the highest quality fish for your home. If you are looking for someone passionate and knowledgeable about caring for a tank this is the place. read more

Exotic fish is such a great place to go if you are a beginner and want to learn about your new tank. I am always learning something from the man that owns this store. I have never had a fish die from here and the prices are great! He will order something for you if he doesent carry it. read more

I like exotic fish store because the great knowledge Mr.Jim has is a big help. Mr.Jim will spend a lot of time with his customers answering questions which is great customer service. Mr.Jim doesn't try to push anything on you to buy, never pressures you to buy. You can walk around his store and not buy anything he is busy most of the time and you may have to wait your turn just like at the grocery store, so you may not want to go on a day your in a hurry. He is one person so he can usually get you in and out when he has someone else working with him on his busy days so go get your good healthy fish and just have a Little time to give it is worth it. This place is honestly amazing. I know it looks a little dingy on the outside, but that's just character like the fish and people inside. Everyone knows the fish they're selling, and the fish themselves are one of a kind. Seriously, check this place out. The staff are friendly but tend to focus on one customer at a time. There are many times my husband and I go in and are never even greeted. Often times we wait forever to check out because they are chatting with another customer. The store is very dirty. Carpets have tons of stains and ceilings have tons of dust caked on them above the ceiling fans. Some tanks are even hard to see in due to the glass not being cleaned! They are often out of items as well. This is the only saltwater fish store in town but my husband and I choose to drive and hour plus to Tallahassee or Jacksonville, FL to shop at their saltwater stores! read more

This place is awful! The owner does not care about costumer service one bit, he doesn't even acknowledge you most of the time when you walk in. I have been here multiple times and every time it has taken at least 45 mins to even get help. If the owner knows someone and they walk in after you that person will be helped first. Since they were the only place around here that has what I need is the only reason I have to come here. I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

I went in today for the first time in a few months and after waiting for over 30 minutes to be helped, had to put over $100 worth of supplements back and was going to spend another $200 on livestock but the only employee in the store was busy putting together a fish tank for another customer. Seems like that was something the purchaser could've done at home. Jim is very knowledgeable and has some nice stuff but unless you don't mind a 20 minute minimum wait you're better off buying online. read more
