My initial message: "Hi Brian, I am just looking for a quote for 2023 tax filing, not to actually start it yet. We will be needing help on a couple of tax situations this year." His exact response: "Understood. I will provide a quote for 2023 during our call. I just sent the questionnaire." He then emailed me the questionnaire; I put I was interested in "Individual taxes" and sent it back to him, I NEVER put I was interested in Investment management or any other kind of financial services. So he knew this whole time I only wanted tax preparation. He still proceeded to call me today and asked a few questions related to our tax situation. Then at the end of the call he asked if I was looking for someone to manage our investments, I said not at this point...we are only looking for tax preparation now. His tone completely changed and he abruptly told me in a condescending manner we are not a good fit because they are saturated with tax preparation clients and he's looking for clients who want investment management. I was pretty shocked at the change in his tone and his annoyance once I told him I didn't need someone to manage our investments. Again, I made it VERY clear from the start I was looking for tax preparation services only from my initial message AND the questionnaire he had me fill out. I honestly don't know why he still called and was rude when he knew he couldn't take on any more clients who only wanted tax filing.

At the initial meeting, we discussed our financial goals and subsequently provided requested information for the plan.  Once the plan was prepared we had another meeting to review the plan including action items for us to perform.  This included things like rebalancing 401(k) and other investments in addition to other action items to complete.  We do annual checkup planning meeting with Planning Within Reach and find the discipline very helpful to stay on track with financial goals. If you are starting out or a few years from retirement, this service is worth every dollar.  We have confidence and peace of mind having our plan in place and recommend it to anyone looking for financial planning services.

I was very impressed with the comprehensive and detailed analysis he provided. His initial analysis found an error in my paycheck withholding for my company's group long-term care insurance that I was able to have corrected, saving me over $100 a month. Since that time, Lawrence has identified many opportunities for improved financial planning. These include: 1) Presenting life insurance options that I had never considered, 2) Recommending a home refinance that brought me immediate monthly savings, 3) Transferring a poor yielding IRA account to a managed account that is much more diversified, and 4) Recommending fund reallocation in my company 401(k) plan to provide better returns. I continue to work with Lawrence to plan for my future. He has a sharp eye for opportunities and can explain the opportunities very well in terms that I can understand.

I paid Pure Financial Advisors $2,000 for a project-based financial plan. After multiple attempts…read moreand extensive clarification of my circumstances and objectives, the final product was still not something I would trust for major financial decisions. The plan contained numerous factual errors, contradictory assumptions, unexplained figures, incomplete treatment of important income and expenses, and basic data-entry problems that should have been identified through routine quality control. Important assumptions were not reconciled to the financial information I provided, and some recommendations changed several variables at once, making the conclusions difficult to interpret. The retirement analysis was especially disappointing. It was essentially a deterministic projection using the same investment return every year, rather than a meaningful assessment of market volatility and sequence-of-returns risk. It also incorporated assumptions that substantially worsened the long-term result without clearly explaining or testing them. The report ultimately projected a multimillion-dollar late-life shortfall and concluded that we needed to save more, spend less, or work longer, but I did not find that conclusion credible given the quality of the underlying model. At the same time, the recommendations were very specific about transferring $317,000 to Pure for management at an initial 1.60% annual advisory fee, reallocating or liquidating investments, and moving more assets into the managed portfolio. The report did not clearly demonstrate that this advisory fee was deducted from the investment returns used in its projections. I cannot know whether the problems resulted from inadequate technical capability, an overly standardized planning process, commercial incentives, or some combination. I can only evaluate the work I received. In my opinion, the process felt much more effective at identifying assets Pure could manage than at producing a rigorous, individualized, and internally consistent financial plan. Pure had multiple opportunities to demonstrate its planning capability. What I received did not demonstrate the technical competence, attention to detail, responsiveness to client input, or quality control that I would expect from a firm asking to manage a substantial portion of our wealth under an ongoing annual agreement. I will not be entering an advisory relationship with Pure, and I would not recommend relying on its planning work without a thorough independent review.

I'd STAY AWAY! I am…read moregoing to second Kate's review below. I gave D'Angelo my business (both personally and business) back before D'Angelo when it was Michele Holt. D'Angelo bought the business from her. I was super satisfied with Nick Sr. and Jr. and enjoyed at least 5yrs. Then Blackline Partnes bought it late 2015 and Richard Lee took over. This happend right at tax time so it was hard to judge what the experience was going to be like. Broken promises. Calls not returned. Voice messages just flat out ignored. I've referred quite a few people and businesses here and it's the same with at least 2 others I know and have talked to. And as Kate stated in her review, it's like they don't care. Or maybe they're just completely under water and bit off more than they can chew. It's sad because I'm out of here for the 2016 tax year. I don't expect them to fight to keep my business but I expect "the basics" of customer service at the very least and it's just not even close. And I'm not willing to endure another tax season when there are far too many other options to chose from.

I will start by saying that IF I would have reviewed this tax office back in 2013 or 2014 I too…read morewould have given 5 star reviews. My husband and I have used them for 5 years and have always received excellent and accurate service. BUT!.... The ownership has changed. There is no one left from the old D'angelo group, which would be fine if the new crew in town (now Blackline Partner Co.) was not completely unorganized and spread so thin. You mean to tell me you have 1, yes just 1 CPA that travels between 4 offices in CA (not just San Diego, I'm talking Cali) during tax season to handle an entire book of business? I mean what?! They have another accountant but that's not enough and she's not a CPA. My take on this group is that they buy out smaller practices and come in and run it like a low budget chop shop so they can make as much money as possible. There's nothing wrong with trying to make money but it seems like their business model is focused on bringing in money as they buy up these smaller practices, and run them by cutting costs and man power. Lower wages I bet, all that jazz. Meaning you run a skeleton crew and the rest just goes by the wayside. I'm not joking here. The staff, I can hear them shrugging their shoulders over the phone when I ever-so-kindly try to voice my complaints and they are unable to give me answers as to why our tax guy hasn't called us back in 3 weeks and has neglected the multiple phone appointments they scheduled in his calendar. Shoot, I felt bad for them when I called. Of course, you are trying to be nice on the phone b/c you just want them to process your tax return so you can be done with them. AND how about this, why did they mail my taxes which were not even complete to my old home address. Are you kidding?? That is extremely sensitive information. I'm mind blown over this. Our personal information, our livelihood has been mailed to the wrong people. I'm furious! We were blowing them up daily trying to get our/their 1 tax guy on the phone to just finish up the last little bit of taxes so we could file. Finally, finally on April 15 (we had until 18th this year) they sent us over our vouchers to pay. I am not kidding you, the moment we sent D'angelo (Blackline) our payment, literally instantaneously, they charged our card. It was comical. All this run around and unreturned phone calls and bam they can process a payment in seconds. I say this... If you are looking for service don't go here. If you're looking for attentiveness don't go here. If you're looking for a secure transmission of you personal information don't go here. Just don't. There are plenty of tax people in the sea. Shoot H&R would have been better for us. How can I give you 0 zero stars? You will read this and not do anything about it because you are running a business not a service based company. The old D'angelos had lasting, loyal relationships. These folks... chumps who are good number crunchers to run a business but that's not sustainable. Without any customer or employee focus you will fail. I'm going to look you up Blackline Partners. I'm interested to see how anyone has reviewed you. Ok let me quick add an edit. They have about 37 locations and they all keep the sweet ma and pa local names that you knew and loved. Hope they all aren't run as poorly as D'angelo is. Yikes!
