I wasted time running my daughter's funds through their 529 which is only compatible with Kansas colleges. They cost me $800 tax credit. When I confronted them they were unapologetic and blamed me. Not feeling the love from Fidelity, I looked at switching to Schwab. I walked in with no appointment and someone was able to squeeze me in. Fidelity would not give me a single piece of advice for free. Schwab gave me 2 advisors (1 a CFA), talked to me about investment strategies for my age, and showed me how to set up the automated investment tool for my goals. All of this was at no cost to me. They also don't complain about meeting me in person whereas Fidelity would only do calls. I ended up transferring all my accounts over from Fidelity. The automated investment tool is performing great so far! read more

Went in to drop deposit a cashier's check. Erica clearly was not happy to be bothered by doing this. She complained that the account number on the check was not my Schwab account number. The check was from a credit union - not Schwab. Why would it show an account number from Schwab? She did what she needed to do and really did not speak to me again. Bizarre. read more

I came to Charles Schwab by default after my investments at USAA were moved here. I find it easy to feel intimidated by financial dealings, because I never learned about it in school. I'm so grateful to have been able to walk into my local Charles Schwab branch and get paired up with Xavier. But what made it worse is I went into verify my account and Mr. Robinson who seemed nice initially made an inappropriate comment about black people having a hard time getting verified by the government for global accounts and non relative banking reasons ie Global Entry access. Considering I was being asked to come in to verify my account that I opened online I took issue with this comment considering the fragile state the USA is in with race and gender issues. I would not recommend any bank where employees brake protocol and make unnecessary and bias comments to any one. read more

Set up an appointment with Marek Ghezzi two weeks ago. Both my husband and I took off work this afternoon for said appointment this afternoon just for my husband to receive a cancellation from Marek this morning so he can "take a couple of sick days". Zero consideration for our time and felt utterly dismissed. When we set up the appointment we told Marek how much money we were ready to invest, I have to wonder if he would have kept the appointment if the number we'd told him was higher. Reality is, we were ready to invest more than double what we'd originally told him but we wanted to see how we were treated first. Glad we saw how they treat prospective clients before we opened an account. We'll take our funds elsewhere. ***update*** Marek just called wanting to know when to reschedule citing that he's been sick for a couple of days (which tells me he knew he was going to cancel and didn't bother letting us know). Charles Schwab as a whole is failing and when you get rid of quality employees, and keep abrasive management... this means customers get treated abrasively and who needs to invest their money in such an entity. Many of us have sent global updates and truths about how the employees are treated and many investors will pull out their funds an go elsewhere. TD Ameritrade is mostly and online, do it yourself kind of investing, but they have a great website which is easy to navigate, get statements, and track your gains (and losses). Its $10 per online trade, there are cheeper online sites, but they don't have the advantage of having a local branch that you can drop off a check or walk in and change your beneficiaries. Its nice to be able to see and talk to a live person instead of it being 100% online or talking to a machine where you "press 1 for customer service" Be sure to max out your Roth IRA EVERY YEAR or as much as you can afford, its one of the best deals around after your company matching (or partial matching) 401k or 403b. It allows you No capital gains tax when you take it out in your golden years. I like that this location, it has free parking with out the hassle of validating a parking ticket or anything. Just park and walk right in. It's also located on the ground floor so no waiting around for elevators. The people at the other location seem to be happier though. read more

Absolutely the worst service location that Schwab has across the country. I am with the Navy and been stationed many places and always been able to get a "guidance" (my word) appointment. But not here. Since I was stationed in San Diego, i've tried 24 tomes over 6 months to talk to s live person (not the national offices) to sit face to face with an investment expert and never even talked to them on the phone. I dare you - call their local number [(619) 574-4800] and see if you don't get redirected and then the person on the line offers automated tools that can help you. It's hugely poor service... maybe I just need bigger portfolio snd then they'll see me, huh ? read more

It's such a pleasure to be able to walk into a physical location and speak with a real live company representative. Schwab has done a great job maintaining that feel where many other financial institutions have fallen behind or abandoned it altogether. Big shout out to Schwab front desk manager Tanner!!! Every time I have come in, I've been met with a friendly face and a helpful demeanor in Tanner. He is not just a part of the admin staff. I've asked him to complete a variety of activities and he's proficient in basically everything. When other customers have come in with even more off the wall tasks, Tanner seems to get it all done flawlessly. He even called my cell number and left a voicemail reminding me of a tidbit I'd forgotten to help smooth out the task ahead. Which was very helpful. This is the kind of customer-facing person you want building the culture of your workplace. He's the kind of employee that makes Schwab so successful while other's are falling behind. What a terrible company this is. They cost me hundreds of dollars. The website is very bad if you want to do a trade. I tried to buy some stock and the site only bought about half of what I ordered. The stock ended up going up considerably but the trade didn't get done. They make a lot of excuses, but they don't explain why only half the order was actually made. I tried to print out my monthly statement, but guess what? When I tried to print it out, it disappeared. Wow, thanks Scottrade for selling out to a very bad company! If you believe in old fashion customer service like I do please read on: My 86 year old mother lives with me and is legally blind. For months now she has been bugging me to sell her old stocks so they are not lost. I've tried and tried but not one company including the main company that actually holds her stocks would ever call or email back to me. I must have made 30 inquiries over 3 months. Finally I searched through Google with the correct question and found myself speaking with Brian at Charles Schwab Mission Valley. He was so nice to take the time to look up all 4 stocks and tell me of any worth.He didn't rush me and spoke to me in such a nice way. I wish the outcome was better but non the less I will never use any other company and plan to transfer my own retirement earnings to this office. Unbelievable great customer service is all I can say. As part of Scottrade's merg with Ameritrade, my stock brokerage account was transferred from Scottrade to Ameritrade. My calls to Scottrade are transferred to Ameritrade. I've been on hold for 30 minutes+ several times trying to talk with an Ameritrade Rep due too high volume (no kidding...). Key issue is I can no longer see the history of my stock holdings, only the date they were transferred from Scottrade. This is a BAD START and I know several folks that have not had good experiences with Ameritrade. With this type of service apparently, I'm sure I can find better options (no pun intended). I understand that this is not a traditional bank which is probably why the aspect of customer service is completely lost on the employees. I came to this branch because I was having trouble with the application online. I came hoping to find a human to explain and help me through the process. Instead I found an empty front desk with employees walking in and out. I finally caught someone and he was helpful for about a minute then he was gone again. After waiting another 10 minutes for someone to come to the desk I asked David Tsow for help. He was a completely rude and unhelpful. As I was trying to make sense of what he was saying he got fed up with my questions and asked me if he could finish... This "bank" could benefit from customer service classes. I would not recommend anyone visit this location. You could get more attentive help from the chat box on their website. Avoid at all cost they're super rude and could care less about the customer. read more

Overall I have had good service here, but had recent problem when I deposited a check and it never got recorded on my online TD Ameritrade account. Turns out it is possible that front desk person did not write in my account number correctly on check. Would have been nice if TD office called me to explain what happened, instead they filed my check and never called me resulting in a 2 week delay in getting the funds on line, after check cleared bank the one day after deposit. Not good. When I discussed this with office manager, he seems to put blame on me. Wish I could recommend highly, but I can't. read more

They ran a hard inquiry on my credit w/o my permission, it immediately affected my score, something I've been avoiding in preparation for a home purchase. As I was clicking through tablet screen prompts as instructed, I got a message that my credit had been run. Surprised, I asked the employee sitting across from me, if they had run a soft inquiry on my credit and he responded yes although his answer seemed uncertain. Well, it WAS NOT a soft inquiry, and I would not have chosen to open accounts with them and would have instead used one of my existing banks. Businesses need to make it abundantly clear if they are going to run your credit, too many places do this and it does add up and make a difference, despite what the people running your credit will often say (this is hard to dispute when you view the direct effect via credit monitoring service). A shady cable company did the same thing, ran my credit and only told me after, it creates a lack of trust and makes me not want to do further business with these establishments. read more

Schwab has a great service and amazing products (investor checking) but I wish they provided QIF files without having to buy Quicken. Most banks do: Ally, Wells, Chase, Capital 360 and even my local credit union. Their app and website could also use a makeover look at AMEX app and website for example. read more

Exactly the same experience I had with every aspect of TD ameritrade. Little or no customer service. Reps are simply not trained and answered most questions wrong. That's IF they answer. This office the phone will just ring and ring. The worst is there inability to simply return a call even if you are an account. I had problems with the main 800 # , the new clients services #, the "contact us" form on their site ( still no reply after 7 days!) and 2 separate branch offices!! Yes the Bernardo center dr is a mess also. Honestly it was astonishing compared to the perception I had of TD!? Credit to Juan for finally answering phone(have to have an ext. and no "0" doesn't work) and AMY for getting me my money so I could get it to Shwab. I used to be with Scottrade. I was very happy with their service and their knowledgeable staff. Scottrade was bought by TD Ameritrade and so far my experience has just been horrible. My branch is the one in Torrance (On Hawthorne Blvd and Sepulveda). I went there last week because I could not get a straight answer from their national customer service when I called them by phone. The people at the office were clueless. First, they said they have no computers so we could go online to look at my problem. Then, they pretty much told me to call their national customer service people to get answers to my question. The person I talked to pretty much asked me to leave since he had "another appointment" who is supposed to be arriving any minute. I stayed in my car for about 30 minutes and saw no one enter their premises. I have a good size account at this brokerage. At my earliest convenience, I will be transferring my account to another brokerage. read more
