I had gone to college and took classes on how to write a resume, how/what to eat at a lunch interview, how to dress for an interview, etc. My resume was reviewed by the college career counselors a dozen times within the four years I was there. Then, I went on to graduate school. There, I took numerous tests to "find out what I had to offer to the corporate world", took networking classes, practiced my interviewing skills, attended practice networking sessions, etc., etc., etc. My resume was scrutinized several times during those two years by the qualified career counselors at one of the best schools in the northeast. There could not possibly be anything I was missing. After all, I had managed to get two internships and two full-time jobs with this resume. The problem could not possibly lie there. Surely, it was the economy's fault. One day, I expressed my frustrations of the futile job search to Karleen. She offered to look at my resume. Fortunately for me, at the time she was still doing that sort of thing pro bono. I emailed her my resume and she emailed me back her version the next day. I could not even recognize it! I LOVED it! I got the resume back and didn't look over it like I should have my fault all the way as I should have reviewed the resume. I went back after getting another description that I felt better aligned on a updated resume. I asked MR about the update, which I was told would be an addition 89.00 to add the additional materials for a expedited fee as I needed it soon, I was applying to another job with a different company. At this point I started looking back at my resume before making my decision. I noticed a lot of mistakes, Spelling, sentences cut off not making sense, Things not put on the resume that should have been added to the resume after saying they were missing the first time. I emailed Masterpiece about my not paying for the service to add additional materials and also to tell my displeasure with the updated resume. I had to go back and fix a lot of mistakes, as I said that was my fault for not checking more thoroughly when I first received it back from the updated resume. I never heard back from MasterPiece Resume after I sent an email about having to fix everything and not use the services again. I waited to write this post to see if I ever would. It's been over a month.

There will be chanting. There will be motivational speaking of the most generic kind. There will be a bunch of people who don't know any better offering well-meaning advice. For the tens of thousands of dollars it costs to be part of this group, I would have gotten more value by going on vacation somewhere cool and focusing on my business problems. Instead, I got a community of wannabes parroting whatever Allison says to try to make up for a shocking lack of skill and judgment.
