    Called looking for some tax/financial advice. 4 days later I get a call back and explain that while…read moremy husband and I have each done our taxes ourselves in the past we are now in a more complex financial situation with higher income, being married, having a child, investments etc. we were looking for someone to help us figure out our situation from a tax perspective as last year we ended up owing quite a bit unexpectedly. Gary told me that he only helps clients. I asked if he charged an hourly rate and if we could at least meet with him. I said that we were interested in becoming clients, but would prefer to at least meet first and discuss our current situation. Gary was reluctant to help me and stated that if I were one of his existing 400 clients he would probably be able to help, but that he thought I should just use the IRS online calculator. I explained that I had already done this and needed further professional help. Gary suggested I call someone else. I'm glad he is doing so well he can afford to turn down wealthy clients, but I'm very much not impressed.

    Gary has been doing my taxes for 20+ years. I haven't left a review until now as I happened to see…read morethat someone gave him "1 star" which even after reading the review is completely unwarranted. (Side note: reviews need to be objective for them to be of any value. A 1-star review should be reserved for someone that shuts a door in your face, gives horrific customer service, etc. The system is not meant to be a subjective measurement of how personally offended you are at the moment that you didn't get what you wanted, or that you were told "no". Last bit: the fact that that '1-star' reviewer felt she had to mention that she wasn't treated in a manner commensurate with 'her wealth' speaks volumes.) I give Gary extra kudos for remaining in his integrity and saying, 'no'. Ok, off soapbox, which I only climbed upon to say that Gary is very knowledgeable, professional, stays current on the tax laws, has done a stellar job for decades, works hard for the fastest turn-around time, is flexible as heck with appointments, and on top of it is kind-hearted and easy to work with.     As I read the reviews for 2022, it is obvious that there was frustration last year. We also are a…read morelong-time clients with Steve an stayed with Jennifer after the transition. Social media is so damaging. Compassion is what should have been shared instead of more damaging statements. Was I affected by delay; yes. Do I have the back story on why it happened; some of it. You never know what people are going through. I never post to Yelp but this was important. And I just made my appointment with Jennifer. She is an excellent CPA for our complicated returns.

    So tax day was Monday. No communication even though I've been calling in the weeks leading up to…read moreMonday, and reassured that my taxes would be ready. Not the case. I go by on Tuesday, and find that the office is closed. I called and leave a message for Jennifer, it is Thursday now, my call has not been returned. I called them today, and learned that my taxes are not yet ready, and in fact they have filed an extension on my behalf. Again, this is with no communication, and without my permission to do so. I'm sure I'm not the only return they will lose for next year. Poor business model. It's my understanding they have commercial business ahead of the personal taxes, they are making their problems mine. I don't care if you're short staffed, you owe it to your loyal customers who have been repeat customers year after year to communicate. If you take on so much business that you can't service the existing clients, then it's time to reconsider your growth.
