David has done two projects for us that have both turned out well. One was repair of a leather office chair and the other bringing an old crib into compliance with new safety standards. He was meticulous both times and paid great attention to detail and durability. Not cheap, but worth every penny. read more

Very knowledgeable craftsman! Keeps you posted on every progress during the course of the time worked on and gives you advices on how to maintain the pieces made for you. A very good quality of work oh and also provides suggestions on how he's going to fix your broken furnitures! read more

I purchased a reclaimed wood plank with the idea that I could turn it into a project. I decided it would make a great fireplace mantle, but because it wasn't long enough, reached out to Mr. Fen by email in the hopes he could help me create a mantle by adding additional pieces of wood to it. I'll be honest, I was actually expecting to get no response. Contractors that I have reached out to in the past have been pretty unresponsive. This was certainly not the case with Mr. Fen, who called back immediately and left a detailed vm explaining to me that additions made to the existing plank (which he identified from my photos as reclaimed fir) would look tacky, would not be the way to go, but that I should be able to find a piece of reclaimed fir in the dimensions I needed. He also offered suggestions as to where I could search. Wow! How incredibly refreshing to find someone so responsive and willing to help that is getting absolutely nothing from it. Mr. Fen's professionalism, expertise, patience and kindness are qualities I look for in a contractor, and because of this experience, we are hoping to be able to contact Mr. Fen to help us with our next renovation. read more

I had David build a custom reading bench with big storage drawers underneath. David was a pleasure to work with, great communication, and was timely. The bench came out fantastic and we couldn't be happier. read more

Skilled, thoughtful, & accommodating are three words that come to mind when describing David Fen and his work. He is also honest about what can be done and will explore all options with you before going forward. You feel like a true collaboration is taking place, as he will brainstorm with you, and he's very open, patient, and flexible if you change your mind or come up with something new that you hadn't thought of before. He managed to take a pre-assembled piece of furniture, cut it up, and rework it to make it fit not only the space it was intended for, but he even came up with a use for a piece of it that I thought I would have to discard. I had used his services before Yelp existed and since he had created some beautiful built-ins for our house, we didn't hesitate to look him up again, several years later, and again were not disappointed. And he is still reasonably priced, to boot, and has not jumped on the price-gauging bandwagon as some contractors have who have less artistic sense and narrower vision & abilities. If you want a pleasant and satisfying experience, do not hesitate to consult with David for your next custom project, small or large. read more

I recently purchased a home in Sammamish WA with an unusual crawl space above my garage. I found David on Yelp and he immediately responded to my request and scheduled a visit. Thereafter he promptly provided an estimate then I hired him - all straightforward, reasonable and timely commitment to finish. David helped me design a large cedar closet for storing winter clothes and other items in this unique space above my garage. Admittedly, I probably did more than is necessary, but why not? David was very accurate in his approach to making the space stunning! I highly recommend David as he is very professional and easy to work with and is committed to excellence in his craftsmanship and service and having a reasonable approach in his pricing. read more

David built a pair of custom cabinets for me, as new fixtures for my COVID-compliant home office. He was fastidious about following my own requirements, and was thoughtful enough to make a personal visit to take measurements, based on his work in progress, to ensure that everything would fit properly. He provided updates on his progress, with photos, which was reassuring and fun to see. His work was very precise and clean, and the final products are both lovely and functional. I like the cabinets so much, I'm considering contracting him to build a desk to match. read more

You can't go wrong with David M. Fen Fine Hand Crafted Woodworking. I've had David do two woodworking jobs for me. After a long search for a woodworking craftsman I found David Fen. David is an awesome craftsman. I had a piece of damaged furniture and he was able to bring the piece back to life and avoided a total loss on a chest. He was able to re-work the top of the damaged chest and made it better than new. Anyone would be lucky to have such good craftsmanship. He offers a great consultation and came in under budget and below the quoted price. I can't say enough to show the appreciation and respect I have for David and the quality of work he puts out.. read more

David is very knowledgeable about wood and seems capable of doing just about anything. A true artisan! He is very easy to work with.

How do I know David is someone you want to work with? Because he talked me out of hiring him! David demonstrated he is honest, works with integrity, and has his client's best interests as his priority. I was looking for a custom large cutting board and emailed David asking if he could make it. He responded very quickly and then called me. He found a supplier that has countertop sections that met my requirements and told me it would be more affordable if I bought one of those instead of him making a custom piece. He also offered to pick it up and deliver it if I wanted; all I had to do was pay for his time. He saved me hundreds. And proved he really does look out for his customers, even before they hire him. read more

David did a great job doing some custom construction for me and my two boys who were in a magic show. He developed a custom prop for their show that was fairly tricky. I was impressed with how he was creative in figuring out to make it a top knotch prop and meet our budget. The first iteration was good but the trick needed to be perfect, so he cheerfully made some modifications to make it great. It's great to see someone have such pride in their work. We would highly recommend him for any woodworking or home construction jobs. -Eric read more

David remodeled the welcome desk and entry for us at the University Family YMCA. This was a huge task with a lot to juggle, working around a tight schedule and our business hours. He did a fantastic job- we love the design, the craftsmanship is superior, and the materials he recommended were perfect for our budget and the look we were going for. David was very responsive and a pleasure to work with, and as mentioned, it is obvious he is passionate about what he does. He is very detailed and holds a high standard for his work. We gave him a tight deadline and he was a few weeks behind schedule, but he communicated well about where he was in the process, and came in early mornings and weekends to work around our business hours. He is an artist- his work is top notch, absolutely beautiful, and I would trust him with my family heirloom or with my new home. read more

David created beautiful built-in bookcases in our home. There was a challenge with how detailed our pre-existing molding was, and he was so thorough and detail-oriented with his work that it truly looks like the house came w/ the bookshelves already as part of the home. David Fen is a very talented word worker (great craftsmanship) and an absolute pleasure to work with. I had two outdoor craftsman wooden chairs that had high sentimental value but had some significant wood rot. David remade about 12 different pieces of the chair and reconstructed them - he did a great job. I would high recommend David - he does great work, his prices are reasonable and you will truly enjoy working with him. read more

I found Mr. Fen on the internet when I googled "couch repair" Mr. Fen did a quality job on repairing a fine leather Italian sectional couch. He fixed the metal frame on the couch re-inforced it with a stronger piece and attached additional legs. I was pleased with the care and attention to detail Mr. Fen took in his handling of the couch. Though he does great furniture repair his talent is creating beautiful furniture. He can, and does, do both with fine workmanship and at reasonable pricing. I recommend David Fen to anyone looking for creating furniture or repairing furniture. read more

David fabricated some wooden pieces to replace damaged and worn parts of a large children's building set. His pieces matched or exceeded the quality of the originals. A couple of pieces came to us blemished by the work of an assistant, but he replaced those at no cost to us, no questions asked. He even did a bunch of research on a prototype for a plastic fastener (seemingly beyond his advertised skill set) that we had trouble replacing. We ended up tracking down the originals, but I was impressed at his willingness to go out of his way to help. read more

David came to my rescue when I desperately needed some carpentry work done at my restaurant. He is one of those rare commodity among contractors- good craftsman and honest. He actually shows up on time and gets his work done on time. There is nothing slapdash about his work either. He really takes pride in his work and is very understanding and patient when designs change in the middle of his work. I would happily recommend David to anyone who has wood work to be done. read more

David is a superb craftsman in every respect. We have used him on numerous projects in our house, including a kitchen and bathroom re-model. The most recent project which he just completed was a new staircase for our house which turned out to be exactly what we were seeking. He designed the new newel posts for the staircase and fabricated the railings, spindles, etc., to come up with a unified design. David is excellent at listening to what you want and working with you to develop a project that reflects your personal style. He is very creative in translating your ideas into a realistic design and offers guidance along the way on the specifics of the construction process. He communicates very well and always keeps you on notice as to the project status on his timeline. David is both personable and reliable, taking as much pride in the final design of your project as you will. I would heartily recommend him to anyone looking for a skilled craftsman, no matter how large or small the project. read more
