Yelp, please learn from my shameful experience and don't leave your laptop on your bed for many reasons--it really does need to be left on a table. Bonom blasted it out with a special air hose, and now it's functioning like a normal, non-dog-hair-clogged laptop should. Hooray! While I was in the shop, three other customers came in. Bonom and his associate went above and beyond to help all of us. I saw them assisting one woman who was having an iCloud issue that Apple absolutely could and should have helped her with, but she was here because of the customer support and patience you'll get at Marin Computer Repair. Bonom didn't charge me for his assistance and was very much not upselling the other women I saw him help, which is really decent of him. In situations with cars, computers, or basically anything with a lot of hardware and software involved, I've often felt and been taken advantage of as a young female customer. I contacted Brian here on yelp. I asked for a quote for two upgrades ram and hard drive. As a Mac…read moreuser I know that Mac's are very difficult to upgrade so I needed a Mac expert. Brian quoted me at $485 for two upgrades all parts including ($200+ for parts) Brian showed up 15 minutes late then he opened up my Mac Book pro with a shank ( large knife) horrified I asked why he wasn't using suction cups and plastic openers. My computer ended up scratched up from his knife lowering my computers value. He switched out the hard drive in 15 minutes after watching a few YouTube videos. Then he told me he forgot the tools to upgrade the ram. I was very confused because we discussed micro soldering via text. Brian then charged me $250 for his 20 minutes of work. I provided the $150 hard drive. He told me he would offer a discount for a second visit with the tools he forgot. The second trip would cost me $300 plus an additional $232 for more parts. His original estimate of $485 turned into $933. At the end of the day my computer is scratched up, he was late, not prepared, didn't bring the correct tools, his estimates $150 hour doubled, and taking out a shank at a clients home is not professional. Unfortunately he's not a Mac expert and I would not recommend.
