The small gaming area is suitably closed off from the rest of the hotel which encourages local families to stop by. This hotel is considered by locals to be the 'runner-up' hotel in Heidelberg-not always a bad thing-that means they try harder! It comes complete with the following features: Cafe Bistro Outdoor Terrace Function Venue Bottle Shop Wine Bar The small wine bar is a great place to stop for an after work drink due to the large open air window with bar stools, perfect for watching the world go by. Tip: End your work week with the Live music on every Friday from 8pm.

Visited this place last night for a dinner & drinks catch up with friends from the high school…read moredays. We booked a nice table out the back area which was rather cute and pretty. I admit Heidelberg/Ivanhoe was my 'just turned 18' stomping ground, I remember the very very old days where this place had yucky sticky carpet, dark wood furniture and a dodgy atmosphere. Since then they have renovated and updated a number of times and it all looks great. I have had a fair number of fun nights at this venue over the years and last night was just as fun. A few of us ordered meals, and the opinion around the table that they were OK, nothing to get too excited about. Myself and another had the "Catch Of The Day" from the special menu. Described as: Oven baked salmon, served with fondant potato, rosemary roasted carrot, baby corn and parsnip purée ($23.90). (Pic uploaded). I enjoyed my dish. It was at the start a tiny bit bland but the nice juicy slice of lemon added the right hit of flavour to the fish to make it rather delicious. I ended up eating and enjoying everything on the plate (except the baby corn, baby corn is weird man!). Even the carrots were delicious and I can usually take or leave those. And fondant potatoes, never heard of them until now but YUM. Can't say much about the other means. My friends pizza looked pretty substantial however she said it felt a bit too fatty too eat much of. They also have a deal advertised via Facebook, that if you check into the venue via mobile you can get half price drinks for the first half of the footy. Bargain! They had TVs all around showing the great Grand Final replay where Hawthorn played brilliant footy. A nice touch to end the night :) Drink service was also friendly and came with a smile. Perhaps I am biased due to my previous fun memories of this venue so 4 starts for this place. I enjoyed my time at The Barkly and hope to be back.

Honestly, there really wasn't anything about this place that truly captured my imagination. Well, I…read moreprobably shouldn't be too surprised considering that it does happen to be a local pub, and many of these local pubs are well, basically for the locals. It is a shame that it isn't too close to the station, and in fact it is tucked out of the way, probably an attempt to avoid my scruitiny. Oh, and the fact that I had to actively search for somebody to serve me puts me off this place as well.

The Roxy, as it's affectionately referred to by locals, is a contemporary, modern hotel offering up…read morea bistro, lounge bar, gaming area, function room and bottleshop. Needing a nice place to go big enough for our extended family to celebrate our daughter's fifth birthday, we decided on The Roxy. Booking at this place is serious business and you're required to pay a deposit of $15 per person which was a surprise to me, but I'm all for organisation so that was fair enough. I did get a bit frustrated though when I realised I'd missed a message from the booking coordinator, the week of my daughter's birthday to confirm if we were still going. I even had a timeline to get back to them, and frantically called them back a day after the deadline when I finally listened to the message. Considering I'd paid over $200 as a deposit, we were definitely going to be there! The staff are fantastic though and the place runs like clockwork. Pity my family and I don't. We were booked in for 7:00pm and bookings went for 1.5 hours so we had to vacate by 8:30. Unfortunately because there were so many of us and because we paid separately by the time we were seated it was closer to 7:30 so time was limited. The bistro offers a buffet style, International all you can eat feast. Being sceptical of large buffet's and how fresh the food is, I was truly impressed by the taste, variety, flavour and quality of the food. Not one of our 20 guests complained and we all went up at least three times. From pizza and pasta, Chinese, seafood, roasts, salads, Mediterranean dishes and then on to desserts, tea and coffee - The Roxy is the perfect place to please everybody's tastebuds! I was delighted to see how often the food was turned over and fresh food brought out; and each station was manned by it's own Chef and servers making the occasion even better. I must say we were all disappointed by the lack of time we had because the food was that darn good, we didn't want to stop! The only downside to the evening was when the Waitress brought out my daughters 'surprise' birthday cake right out in front of her before we were ready; which was a shame considering the same girl had done a terrific job hiding it all night. A magnificent place to eat, drink and enjoy the company of good friends and family. With a terrific indoor play area for kids and great promotions for special occasions such as Mothers Day and Christmas, The Roxy has become my local.

I swear it was Basa from the freezer at Coles. The Chicken Parmi had a choice of one sauce "Napoli". The mozzarella topping looked & tasted like plastic, the sauce was so watery it was akin to a small serve of soup & the chips were cold. I swear they were cooked the night before & even then weren't great. Pasta dishes were between $25 & $36. I got packet linguini topped with a jar of some sort of white sauce which was absolutely NOT Carbonara & exactly 4 frozen prawns. One choice of burger, which was tasteless & cold on the smallest Brioche bun I've ever seen. That cost 27.00. Even the garlic bread came out of a packet. The beer garden is a sad smoker's lounge & that's about it. Don't think they've emptied the ashtrays for a week but that's OK as most of the patrons just seem to prefer to stub out their butts on the ground. Staff were cold & unwelcoming & so were many patrons. On the bright side if you're a big drinker, they seem to serve people far past the point where they ought to have been offered a coffee. Shame really as from the outside it's all heritage charm but the inside seems to be only inviting to those who want to get legless sit in front of a row of poker machines losing their pay packet.

Mind you, when I left to go home a couple of friends asked me if I wanted a lift, to which I politely declined explaining that there was a pub that I discovered that I hadn't had a beer in as yet - being this pub. Well, there isn't all that much that really stood out about this pub though - it is what you would expect from a suburban pub. There was a TAB, pokies, and a restaurant, as well as an outdoor area out the back, which was full of smokers (which doesn't make it a really enjoyable experience if you are not a smoker, and I would hesitate to call it a beer garden). The pub itself wasn't bad, but it is certainly not one that I would travel all the way out to Essendon just to visit.
