I used Michelle services 1 time at her hair salon/home in NJ some yrs ago. I had a consultation with her about 2 weeks prior to receiving the Hair Links weave service. I had a special Christmas event to attend and therefore wanted a relaxer and weave. She preferred that I purchase the hair that she claims she gets custom made from a hair manufacturer that she always does business with. I agreed and gave her around $200 for the Remy/Virgin hair. After the consultation I still didn't have a clear understanding of how the Micro Links weave (it was new) was installed. Basically, she installs the micro links onto your hair strands then sews the weave on. Being that she does weaves for people who suffers from hair loss, I thought that I would receive a special kind of weave install that I wouldn't be able to get from a regular, round the way salon. I also stressed to her that I wanted the weave to look like my hair - I am African American. She said it would look like my hair. We agreed on a price for the weave and scheduled the appointment. Relaxer - Michelle did my touch-up using a brush applicator to ensure that she only applied the relaxer to my new growth - A Plus for that. She used Mizani hair relaxer, however, she used a neutralizing shampoo to rinse out the relaxer. I later found out (through another hair dresser) that not only was she supposed to have used Mizani's conditioner to neutralize the relaxer after the treatment and only use Mizani's products,but also, she was supposed have received a certification from Mizani to professionally use their products. This was my 1st experience with Mizani, therefore, I was unaware of this and my hair was damaged. Weave - Her assistant did my hair. I was disappointed because Michelle made it seem like SHE was going to do my hair - I had no idea before hand that she had an asst. When she brought out the hair, I was not happy because it was European straight and she knew I wanted the weave to have the same texture/look like African American hair after its been relaxed. Michelle said that they can make it look the way I wanted - so I decided to go ahead with the install especially since I already spent my money on the hair. Before the install, the asst. blow dried my hair and at Michelle's recommendation, trimmed my edges. She cut off less than 1/4 of an inch only in areas she felt needed it (I was satisfied). After I saw how she installed the weave, I felt disappointed because I could of had gone to the Dominican hair salon and got that done (and got my hair relaxed properly) for way less than what she charged. After the weave install, the asst. styled my hair using a flat and curling iron. Although she styled it nicely, the weave still didn't look like my hair - anyone looking at it can see the 2 different textures. At this point I just wanted to leave. The Bill - Michelle was not there during the weave install or the styling but was there to present me with the bill. To my surprise, in addition to charging for the relaxer and weave install she also charged me separately for washing out the relaxer (???), for the blow out and for the trim. The trim maybe, but seriously, you HAVE to wash the relaxer out of the hair and you HAVE to dry the hair to style it and install the weave. She NEVER mentioned this during the consultation and she did not have a price list anywhere. I'm surprise she didn't charge to read her magazines while I waited past my appointment time. The event was that day and I had to get back to NY, so I just chucked it up as BAD experience and overpaid for the services. The asst. was empathetic but there was nothing she could do. Michelle noticed that I wasn't happy but rather than saying something like 'next time, this will be the price' or offering a discount, she asked for the money and proceeded to schedule me for my next weave maintenance appointments. She also told me that had I went to her at that salon she worked at in Manhattan NY, the total price would of been much higher. I doubt it because with the thousands of competition in Manhattan, I'm quite sure most people would of walked out after getting such a ridiculous quote for a weave that last a month, if that long. Leaving - After overpaying (I wasted around $700), I asked the asst. for the weave hair that was left over. As she began passing it to me, Michelle grabbed it out of her hand and told me that customers leave their hair with her. When I objected, she gave it to me and said in a snobby way 'its not enough to do a new install anyway, maybe you can give it to your daughter for her baby doll'. Ignoring the ignorance I asked if I can purchase a new flat iron like the 1 she had for the same price she paid at my next appt. I believe she was pissed when I came back for my new flat iron and left without getting serviced. I ignored all service reminder phone calls and went back to the Dominicans. NEVER AGAIN! read more

A few years ago I foolishly went to an unknown salon that had no reviews.They sold me on extensions that ruined my hair when they swore they wouldn't. A year later I found Michelle at Excellength. Hallelujah! Michelle introduced me to extensions that not only look and feel more natural, but they are NOT DAMAGING to my hair. My hair is still recovering, but thanks to Michelle, you'd never know it AND my hair isn't continually being damaged by the extensions I have now. It's a win-win. My hair has been thinning for over 20 years. I refuse to wear wigs and weaves so I just chose not do anything about my hair loss. I suffered for so long with this problem that one day I decided to search for a solution for my female pattern baldness. Don't mind spend money on great extensions!! I'm African American with genetically very fine natural hair. Literally, for decades I have been searching for a stylist who could lay tracks for sew-ins flawlessly, where as my fine hair easily cover the track and my Do would look natural. I found Michelle - Excellength on Yelp in December 2014. She had such great reviews I decided to set up an appointment. My hair colorist of 5 years started getting sloppy and destroyed, fried my hair off. It is devastating, didn't ever believe that my hair would have such an emotional impact on me. Michelle put in extensions, many extensions, and I love it. It is like having "my" full head of hair. I will keep maintaining the extensions, with Michelle while my hair grows back in.
