Carlos is the absolute best!! I met Carlos when I was in my early 20's and now he's been cutting my hair for 25 years!!

Amazing and friendly staff, cool haircut, really nice place. Didn't wait to long guess I was lucky as I went in Friday noon. read more

Old school barber . Always satisfied with the fade /cut . You won't be disappointed bring cash . Great lil shop and best to call for appointment read more

Carlos gave me a fantastic cut! I went as a walk-in and he was able to take me right away. He is very kind and friendly. And I'm getting so many compliments on the cut! read more

Terrible customer service. Made an appointment, showed up, and he tells me that the appointment was made at a different time. Did not offer an apology or an alternative solution. Also not wearing a mask. No thanks. read more

The short: I'm positive you won't find a better barbershop for the value anywhere on the Westside. If you know of one, please lmk. Like forreal lmao. I'M ALWAYS SEARCHING FOR THE NEXT BIG THING The long: This is a one-man shop, and Carlos is great at what he does. It's $15 for a regular cut, which is unheard of (at least in my experience) in the Culver-Westside area, and on top, as I mentioned, he's GREAT at what he does. I've gotten better haircuts here than I ever have during my 4 years at UCLA paying $20 per haircut (IN THE VILLAGE, NO I'M NOT FOOLISH ENOUGH TO GO TO CAMPUS CUT$) Drop-ins are Sunday Monday Tuesday, and appts. on Thursday Friday Saturday - closed on Wednesday. It's pretty easy to get an appt. if you call in the morning on an appt. day - also no extra charge! I've always been confused when places charge more for an appt. and I'm like ok this sucks. You can walk in on an appt. day occasionally and Carlos may be able to squeeze you in, but no guarantees! I've done a drop in on an appt. day and waited around 45 minutes for a haircut, but I wouldn't be surprised if he hadn't had time - he has plenty of customers~ read more

After moving into the neighborhood, I tried out all the barbers I could find at least once. There used to be an excellent barber on the corner of Berryman and Washington Blvd, but he got bought out years ago. I was stoked to come across Excel Cuts. The place is always clean and comfortable, with the array of mens magazines you expect to find in a barber shop. There's a big screen TV to watch if you are so inclined while you get your hair cut. The barber is conversant in English and Spanish, and comes across as friendly and welcoming no matter who you are. And the prices are great with quick, efficient service. If you become a repeat customer, expect to be remembered and appreciated. read more

4.9 rating for me. I got a theory. You go where people do the same thing all they time + they are a business owner + been there for a long time = success for you too. I'm asian and have the typical short hair cut. #1 on the sides, fade to the top, keep it clean *BAM* , nice and sweet. Sounds easy right? NOPE! i've been all over the places, every chain place (supercuts / fantastic sams) can't get it right. They get everyone else good, but me. Why? Cause short, coarse hair is unforgiving to mistakes. I walked in here from the streets when i moved there in 2004. It was a risk, but a theory that i learned and used well. I figured, this guy cut hispanic hair like mine all the time, he's still in business, he's got to be good. He got it right the first time and I've been going there ever since. Sure at first it was a bit intimidating, he's not the most friendliest person in the world, but it's really good and really convenient for me because he takes appointments (thurs - sat) and I get in and out. He's off on Weds and on Sun - Tues, walk-ins only. By the way, he's CHEAP! $12 on walkin's, $15 for appts. I used to pay $17 easy. So i tip him $3 and he's been really nice to me and we got a great thing goin. This is a "Barbershop" as it gets. No hairwashing, no coloring, but a great straight up haircut. Parking is meters only, but not usually tough to find. BTW, his place is spotless clean all the time. Takes pride in his work. Honestly i don't know what JON E experienced, but if you have short hair like most Asians do, you can't go wrong. if parking wasn't meters, they'd be a 5. read more

carla has his preferred people. I waited 1.5 hours and he said I was next. As he was finishing up the haircut before me his buddy walks in and he turns to me and says: "oh he had an appointment, sorry I'll cut you next" I waited over 2 and a half hours for a haircut. read more

I like this place. Great prices. I asked Carlos to clean his equipment once and he does it every time. He's not super talkative which I like. read more

Very good Barber. Works efficiently and really cares about doing a good job. As others have mentioned, he definitely takes pride in his work and understands any typical cut. He takes appointments on certain days and always has walk-ins. Have been to several other places in Culver City and have easily paid anywhere from 20-50% more for guys who can't cut half as well and who could care less about the quality of their cuts. Big screen TV is right in front of the chair and almost always on the biggest game of the day. Place is designed really well too with sports and movie memorabilia all over the walls and shelves - almost like the barber's own man cave. Will continue to come here for sure. read more

Fast, clean, perfect cut - exactly as I requested. Will definitely continue to use this man. The shop was spotless, showing me pride in work. When I explained my desired cut, he understood perfectly and delivered on my request - in less than 15 minutes. The price was extremely reasonable. Discovered him here on Yelp and found that the positive comments were all correct. The negative one? Who knows. If I see a lot of negative reviews, I put some stock in it. But when the consensus is positive, I trust it. Someone mentioned that the parking is all metered. This is true if you are unwilling to walk across the street. All the parking next to the park across the street, is one hour free parking. read more

First and only barber I found over here in Culver City when I moved down six months ago. There is a reason why I haven't been anywhere else: Carlos's price point cannot be beat. For $20 (including tip) you can get a great fade, line up, and fast service. + there is usually many metered parking spots available in front of his store (does not take card so bring quarters) Honestly, do yourself a favor and just get cut here. I'm more than certain you wont regret it. read more

Shame on me for trying to support local, small business and trying out a new place getting a haircut. The Sunday guy can't really cut hair that well. Sure he did the sides pretty well. Based on the pictures of all the possible cholo-cuts (I wasn't aware there were that many ways to get a fade) he's pretty adept at basic cuts but nothing more. Quick and efficient, yes. Good quality cut, no. I'm sticking with Floyds. read more

Just got a quick haircut today from Carlos. He is indeed a great barber and his skills are sharp! I used to go to the Supercuts down the way but had one too many bad haircuts. Carlos' place is a one chair operation but you get 100% of his attention. I would def. go back to Carlos again! Note: The barbershop actually says Exxell Cuts so not to be confused. read more

Carlos is the man! He keeps a clean shop, which is also air-conditioned for your comfort. Big TV that always has sports on. Does a good job, takes his time when required. Can't beat the price either. Excel Cuts - Updated schedule - Barbers Near Me - Culver City, California

Just got my haircut from Carlos for the first time and extremely happy with the experience and the results. I called ahead to confirm he had time for me (Thu-Sat he takes reservations) and luckily he was free. He patiently asked me exactly how I liked my haircut, whether I use any product, and paused halfway through to get my feedback on how he was doing. I hate having to interrupt barbers while they're doing their job so this was a very welcome step. A few people came in during my session and you can just tell Carlos is a neighborhood staple in the way he greets others and they greet him. Very happy to have found this spot (he's been in Culver City 22 years!) and will definitely be coming back. A great experience from a man that knows his trade and for $15 an absolutely bargain. read more

Why I went to this guy for so long, still boggles me. He is not that great, consistently inconsistent, rude and arrogant. There are plenty of barbers in the Culver City, Palms (especially) and WLA areas, that are way better than this guy. read more

Decent haircuts but even if you're a minute or two late you'll lose your appointment. Not worth it if you have to travel to get to this place. read more

I've been getting cut by Carlos for about 3 maybe 4 years and have yet to be disappointed with his work. He works on a rigid schedule and won't make any exceptions for late appointments. If you are looking for a nice clean cut, don't second guess this shop. read more

Excellent!!! I made an appointment & arrived early... in a timely fashion I was taken care of. No complaints & all props!

Owner+operator Carlos is not just a barber but a sculptor of hair grooming. For being such a perfrctionist he is very easy going. His shop offers the basics in comfort while you wait with a large flat screen showing on going sporting events. He has three days for appointments and three days of just taking walk ins. I use to drive in from Montebello but since I moved into the neighborhood over a year ago my commute is quite easier but that drive from Montebello was, and still is well worth it. read more

HELL NO! They made it very clear they DON'T KNOW or CARE how to cut black people's HAIR at the shop to me when I called and asked if they do (which I shouldn't even have to do). He literally agreed that he didn't give a f*** and "he's too old for this". This is 2016 not 1956..and black people are still being discriminated against at barbershops?!! F his place until he drops the racist perspective and infrastructure of his shop, anyone should be able to get their haircut at a freaking barbershop in the 21st freaking century!!!! DON'T COME HERE. read more

Decided to check it out after seeing all the good reviews but I went in on two occasions during a week day around 3-4 pm and there were both busy with about 2-3 people waiting ahead. Don't like the place as there is only ONE chair and I'm imagining just ONE barber from how they mention one Carlos guy. When I walked in on both times, the first time- the guy looked angry as if me going in just delays his time of leaving, just didn't seem friendly in welcoming a new client so I left. Decided to try again later in the week and this time the guy didn't bother looking up or welcoming me, seems like he just his group of family and friends that he's cool with and then to the new people doesn't seem to treat them the same? Just decided to take my business elsewhere. Shouldn't be rated this highly, especially if you are impatient..one chair doesn't cut it. read more

Best barber ever ! I've known carlos for over 20 years! Always polite n profesional .

Carlos is the best, I'm really grateful to have discovered his barber shop. He does a great job for a very reasonable price!

I was a walk-in at Carlos's place one afternoon. No one else was there at the time, so he saw me immediately. He was very nice, and he cut my hair in a very meticulous and attentive manner. It only cost $15, parking was easy to find, and I had absolutely no complaints. Just bear in mind that payment is cash only. Also, fyi: he accepts appointments on Thursday-Saturday only; otherwise, he takes walk-ins. read more

I don't know why this place has some bad reviews ,He is friendly , clean and fast. strongly recommend it .

Carlos was great. Took his time. Very detailed and awesome price! Also I liked that he wasn't very talkative.

This barbershop is definitely a Hidden Gem and to be honest, I think it's one of the best things I found here in Culver City. First of all, there's so much character when you walk into this barber shop! The barber definitely has made this place very homey and there are sports paraphernalia all over the walls. He make sure to position his big screen TV right in front of the barbershop chair so it's really easy to be entertained while he's cutting your hair. He takes a lot of pride in the way that he cuts your hair. Asks you exactly how you like it and is able to deliver! I also really enjoy the fact that he is very on time and schedules appointments. I think the price is also extremely reasonable. I don't think that I found a haircut place as affordable and it's high-quality as this place. I actually look forward to getting my haircut at this barber shop and will definitely be a regular customer! read more

Yelp page says it is not by appointment. Went in today to try to get a haircut and was turned away for not having an appointment. Owner should probably keep their Yelp page updated if they expect to gain new customers through this platform, as one of the pictures that shows the schedule also fails to mention anything about required appointments. read more

The barber does a great job. Very meticulous. His place is comfortable and he is friendly. Don't bother dropping in on the weekend because he is packed. The meters in front don't take credit cards so bring your quarters! read more

Carlos is a a great barber. I used to drive 40 minutes just to get a haircut, but I saw his shop by my house one day and I decided to give it a shot. Needless to say I never drove that far again. He is quick efficient and very welcoming. I highly recommend his services. read more

I got a cut from Carlos not to long ago, it was my first time. Hes a super nice guy and highly skilled. You only pay 15 bucks but you get the same quality and care as a 40ish dollar haircut. I will go back. If you need a nice fade and scissors hes the man. no bs kind of guy, get in, get out, get on with your life. Hes also open to suggesting styles that will work well with your type of hair. read more
