While my stylist initially cut my hair a little shorter than I wanted, once it grew out, it actually looked great. Looking back, the final result was much better than my first impression. Gianni is the reason I keep coming back to AANUKO. A year and a half in and I'm not going anywhere…read more I have thick wavy hair and more cowlicks than one head should be allowed. I'd been getting the same high fade for a decade and wanted to try the longer wave thing everyone's doing. The first barber I asked for it butchered it, mostly because he'd never done a long cut in his life. Gianni took one look, diagnosed what was actually going on up there, and got me to a halfway cut. A couple months later, the cut grew in as he planned and he took me from 80 to 100%, right in time for my vow renewal. His profile calls him the brushback king and I couldn't agree more. Fair warning: he's meticulous, so plan on real time in the chair. You get what you pay for! Also book ahead. At least a month, in my experience. Gianni's popular and I've never once seen anyone get off the waitlist. The shop itself is worth the trip on its own. Great furniture, plants everywhere, and a back patio you can sit on if you're early or just want to hang. Vibes and the place is always clean. Their systems are top notch too. Plenty of notice before your appointment, everything organized, they offer you a drink when you sit down, and they use good products from the wash through the styling. The host is always so nice, everyone there is personable, and the music's great. One heads up: no parking lot. Street parking can be iffy if you catch a bad day, but there's usually at least one spot within a block. Go see Gianni!

Well how about a haircut that doesn't make me want to say my wasted cousin did it. Easy right. Not so easy. But now it can be... I have bounced around tons of places over the years. Some good, some meh, some hide your head in the sand. Dorie is at the top of the food/hair chain. She pretty much nailed it and made it look effortless (and feel effortless too!) Found Dorie on Yelp. (See it does work!) And she delivered a great cut, advice, conversation and ease that is pretty hard to find. Easy parking, private room ( if you close the shade) amongst many other private rooms for personal care in the Chess & Burman Salons building. Hey , and any woman who loves "family guy" gets my vote. I'm not so sure Dorrie needs any more clients so I hope I have not ruined my chances of getting easy appointments next time. And there will be more next times. Shorter hair, and shorter review (compared to my others!) It's all good...

Which is the only good thing about having thinner hair --cuts are quick. Last week I walked into Blind Barber and they improved my whole viewpoint, not just my hairstyle. It wasn't the decor, easy app-based tab, or even the speakeasy bar in back (yes, it's true - a drink is included). It was the barber. And not the skills exactly, but how comfortable they made me. It felt like us against the hair. Like, okay, what are we going for here with this haircut? Not the usual "what buzzer number are you, thank you, next." That made all the difference to me. I'll go back, I'll order quality products, I'll start a barber + beer tab. Finally, a haircut appointment I look forward to. You should go!
