Gary gave me a great haircut. He was super friendly, attentive, and created a really comfortable one-on-one experience. He answered all my questions about my hair and gave me really helpful recommendations for getting and maintaining the look I want. You can tell he cares about the details and making sure you leave happy. Highly recommend. read more

This review is long overdue! I've been getting my haircuts (and the occasional gray blending) from Gary for over four years now -- and there's a reason I keep coming back. TL;DR: He's awesome. Full stop. Why Gary's the best: * Attention to detail: Even after finishing a cut and wash, he'll spot a tiny imperfection and fix it -- without being asked. That level of care says it all. * Professional and clean: His studio is always spotless and constantly upgraded with new tools and touches to make the experience better. * Easy booking: His online system makes it simple to check availability and reschedule when life gets hectic. * Always on time: Appointments start right when they should -- no waiting around. And most importantly, he's simply a master with the scissors. read more

Gary makes me look and feel fabulous. He's attentive to my ideas and is very careful and conservative in his methods. His technique is surgical and meticulous and sized to different measurements based on different growth patterns of my hair. You can tell that he cares about the art and precision of his craft and it's a bonus he's professional and welcoming to talk to. Before Gary, people said I look like Ming Tsai; now they say I look like Daniel Henney. Quite the evolution, thanks for the diligent work, Gary! read more

The very best in Westwood, I highly recommend. He's the most accommodating, insightful, visionary barber I've had while at my time at UCLA. He is an artist with hair and his techniques and execution are flawless. I trusted him for my graduation. Gary is also a really funny guy. Great experience! read more

My partner and I have been seeing Gary for the past 4 years. It is apparent that we have been pampered and made more handsome every time after the visit. Not only does Gary give great haircut, he would also give great tips and free consultation on keeping the hair healthy. Having moved to Orange County, commuting to West LA to get the professional service and good look is worth the drive. I would highly recommend Gary to anyone. read more

I first contacted Gary when I was moving to LA two years ago because my teenage son would desperately need a haircut by the time we settled in. Since then, my son sees him regularly and Gary has done a fabulous job with a range of men's styles for him (as previous reviews suggest). BUT, this review is about my hair too... When salons began to reopen after the COVID shutdown, Gary had availability, so I made an appointment for myself. In all the time I'd seen people in Gary's salon (I go to other services in the same complex), I'd never seen a woman there, so I was a bit hesitant, but Gary gave me the best haircut that I've had in years. Whether I style it or just wash and wear, I haven't had a bad hair day in the two weeks since he cut it. He's truly an artist and really, really good at what he does. read more

I recently had a cut and styling with Gary. For years I've struggled with hair tangling and my hair a bit out of proportion. Gary literally changed this making me feel much more confident about my hair. I honestly didn't even know what to tell him to do, however Gary's professionalism and knowledge had all the answers. He is an outstanding hair stylist. Not only does he do a great job, but he explains everything he is doing in terminology that is understandable. He'll make some recommendations for products but no pressure to buy them. The answer is "you can get it on Amazon". No up selling. For years I've worn a cap because I was uncomfortable with my hair. I was so happy with his work that I literally forgot my cap in his salon! If that isn't evidence of a job well done, I don't know what is. In addition to being a great hair stylist, Gary is also a very nice person. He'll welcome you into his salon and make you feel very comfortable. Great job Gary! read more

You can read the other reviews on how great his haircuts are, especially his attention to detail. It's all true. I was very happy with my cut. But for this review, in light of the coronavirus / COVID outbreak, I wanted to highlight how well Gary has been handling the situation. Personally, I was on the fence about whether I wanted to risk getting a haircut in the first place. However, I was put at ease by how thorough and safe Gary is. Masks are required and your temperature is read outside before you are let in. Gary himself wore an N-95 mask while cutting my hair. On top of that, he gives haircuts in a private room, so you don't have to worry about about being enclosed with a bunch of other people. If you're worried about the current situation but need a great haircut, this is definitely the place to go. read more

I came here for a COVID hair fix up and Gary did a wonderful job not only fixing my hair but also listening to what i usually like and delivering. Given that it was my first ever proper haircut, he took also the time to teach me how to take care of my hair, save on product and general tips and tricks. The haircut came out amazing. He exceeded my expectations. I moved to the Bay area but everytime I come back to LA, I try to book an appointment with him. Highly recommend. read more

I have been searching for years a perfect Salon and a Hair Stylist. I finally found it. It totally changes how I look and feel about myself every time I look at the mirror. Gary is like the PICASSO of Hair. An artist that not only listen what his customer wants but also giving his best suggestion to make his clients look their best. Thank you for making me feel great but look great as well. read more

Just had my hair cut by Gary and I was very impressed. The whole experience from start to finish was extremely professional, and I am so happy to have found a talented hair stylist like Gary in my neighborhood. I've been told that I have difficult hair to cut. For one, my short Asian hair sticks straight out which means any imperfections are clearly seen. In addition, the back of my head is pretty flat leading to many other inexperienced stylists to accentuate this undesirable feature. Gary, however, almost immediately addressed it and did a great job manipulating shape to compensate for the flatness. I deeply appreciate his methodical approach and precise cuts. Gary also proved to be a wealth of information on the topic of hair health and maintenance. He asked me very specific questions to gain an overall understanding of my hair and gave me very useful tips on how I can improve on my existing routine. For example, I never knew thermal protection spray was a thing until today. I believe that if you are going to spend money on something that it should enhance your quality of life. The quality of this cut far outweighs the price I paid for it and I would easily recommend his services to anyone looking to improve upon their outward appearance. Although for me, having nice hair means feeling good on the inside and outside. I'll definitely be returning to see Gary because I believe in his talents and I want to see him do bigger things! read more

Gary Snavely is the best stylist in Westwood - hands down! I recently decided to grow my hair longer, and he was able to give me a cut that lasted 4 months! Just sayin', I didn't think that was possible. He is also very prompt and does not take long. The quality of service for price is amazing. No questions here - I will probably follow him wherever he goes. Thank you, Gary! read more

Absolutely Love Love my Hair! Gary came highly recommended and I see why! Went in to dye my hair and it came out so great, hair is still healthy and soft. His service is great, very sweet guy and all around AWESOME. Salon is clean and has such a welcoming relaxing atmosphere fell in love immediately once I walked in. Gary comes highly recommended for a reason and I'll definitely be going from here on out for my touch ups! Thank You Gary!!! read more

First off, Gary does a great job. He listens, he's patient, and he's happy to make adjustments on the fly. I've always felt that I got exactly the cut I asked for when I leave his salon. With regards to safety during the pandemic, Sheveaux takes every precaution imaginable to make the client feel at ease. Gary wears a mask/face shield and constantly sanitizes both his instruments and his gloves. He's aware his guests might feel anxious and does everything he can to bring them back to the singular self care experience of getting their hair cut. read more

After my hair stylist of seven years moved out of state, I was anxious about finding someone new. Fortunately, after some careful research, I arrived at Sheveux Salon and Gary knocked it out of the park on the first cut. He's attentive, personable, and creative. He's also a perfectionist, in the best sense, which I love. On top of all that, his salon is super chill and sitting in the chair, listening to music and chatting while he cuts my hair, is genuine stress relief. After the craziness of 2020, it's been wonderful to find a reliable stylist who gets me, and my hair. read more

Gray is the best! In Yelp, I spent a lot of time comparing salons in Westwood and Gray has the best reputation. He did not make me disappointed. He well communicated with me to get my requirements and express his ideas. The whole process is careful and elegant, is a art of scissor and clipper. I'll recommend Gray to my friends. read more

I travel in LA often and was looking for a last minute cut and clean. I found this salon on Yelp and glad I did! Great haircut. Very exact and detailed. Probably the most exact haircut I've ever gotten in fact. He was very friendly and easy to talk to. In summary: Will be coming back. Location was a little hard to find because in a building with a lot of independent salons. read more

He's very careful and a true perfectionist. Have been to several hairdressers in this price range and this cut was by far the best.

If you're looking for a reliable stylist that will give you a quality cut/style at reasonable prices then this is the place for you. Gary is the only person I trust with my hair. He is the absolute best in the business. I came to Sheveux after being displeased with my prior salon and have never been happier. Gary is kind, professional, and experienced. A+ work, A+ salon. read more

Gary is an amazing stylist! I haven't had my hair cut for some time so I basically had a mop. I let Gary use his creative talent in creating a new look for me. The result was a fresh new look. I love my haircut! Gary is professional and extremely considerate. He will meet you outside and take your temperature before entering the building. He has a private salon and he wears an N95 mask for YOUR protection. Gary is one of the best stylist I've had. Can't wait till my next cut! read more

I read really good reviews about Gary and I set up an appointment with him for the first time in August 2016. That went really well. he was responsive and listened etc. So I was super happy and had my haircuts (almost once a month) starting then. Things were going well... There was this one time in November when after he cut my hair I found it a little too short. And the message I sent him afterwards was something like: "It looks it went a bit too short this time. I wanted on the sides of my head to go from 5-4 i think. Probably because I did not explain it well we went to a 4-3. I am messaging you this time around right after so that next time I won't forget what to tell you" (This is not the exact message. but it was very close to it.) I did not get any reply from Gary which was okay with me. Then comes December, time for a haircut and I message him 3-4 days in advance for an appointment and he tells me that "for my requirements I need to find someone else". It caught me by surprise. Of course, he can choose who he wants to work with. But he could have at least told me much earlier that he has made up his mind that he doesn't want me. This way I would have had the opportunity to look around for someone else. In the end, I ended up scrambling and found out someone who now I am really happy to work with. So to conclude: Gary does an okay job listening and tries (really hard) to keep it nice and polite. However, I found him a bit of a fussy stickler in terms of any feedback I gave him. I agree he will do a good job. But then you have to stop complaining in case it goes wrong once... well, at least if you don't want to be turned down last minute. I would not recommend anyone here. read more

Just came back from my first visit at Sheveux Salon. Gary is thorough, detail oriented, thoughtful and made sure I left with a great haircut. I'm glad I found this place and look forward to visiting again for my next cut. read more

Gary has been doing my hair for about a year now. I came to see him originally based on the reviews I saw here and now I can say he lives up to them 100%. Gary really puts in the time to get the details right and has recommended great products for me and great suggestions for my routine as it changes (I travel a lot for work). Prior to seeing Gary I had only ever gone to barber shops/chain places without a regular stylist. The only thing people would notice about my hair was that it had been cut at all. Since I started seeing Gary I've gotten my first true compliments! Would definitely recommend Gary to any of my friends and folks on Yelp! read more

Bottom line: If you're an Asian guy with hair, you need to see Gary. I know that Gary is an awesome stylist for all walks of life, but Asian guy's hair is one of his specialities and he rocks at it! He is super detail oriented, takes his time with you, and gives you his expert opinion without being pushy or overly opinionated. His customer service skills paired with his talent for styling hair makes it a no-brainer for me to see him every time I need a haircut. I'm happy that he is back on the Westside in Westwood in his own studio salon suite. His rates are very reasonable for the impeccable service and quality that you receive. Like I said, if you are an Asian guy with hair, you owe it to yourself to see Gary at least once...and most likely, you'll be hooked. Bonus that he validates parking for the Trader Joe's parking lot directly across the street. read more

I regularly frequented Gary's salon while I was an undergraduate student at UCLA, and after graduation when I no longer lived in the area, I still came into his place - braving the infamous I-10 highway traffic in the process. I thought it was worth it. Gary is one of best hairdressers I've ever had. Gary is a very meticulous as a stylist. He is very detail-orientated, and in some ways, a perfectionist. This is great. Gary really cares about the quality of his work and the satisfaction of those of us who come to him. He is very knowledgeable about men's hair and he is kind-spirited. He loves his job, and you can see that his heart is in what he does when you are sitting in that chair. Gary is not a robot, and he won't treat you like one. He has always been human and personal to me, and I think he will be the same with you too. I notice that a lot people who work in the hair industry - any profession, really - generally tend to go through the complacent day-to-day motions with their routines and clients. It's just a job to them, and they're just there to do it. That's understandable, very understandable, as it is in all of us to an extent. I feel that Gary goes beyond what is expected. For instance, one time I tried booking an appointment with him, but he told me that he was unavailable, because he was taking a few days worth of classes on master level hairstyling techniques. I think this says a lot about Gary and his sincere, genuine interest in trying to continually master his craft. He's his own boss, and no one is making him do that; he genuinely just wants to learn how to cut your hair well, and better. If you're in the Westwood area, I'd recommend Gary. Get a good sense of what you want, and be prepared to be able to communicate that. Sometimes what we think are the failings of our hairdressers may in part be our own failures. It's a team effort! Thanks for cutting my hair all these times, Gary! I'm in SD now, and you are missed! read more

I've been going to Gary for years now and he really is as good as it gets. I've struggled in the past finding the right person to cut my hair but I've been very happy with Gary. The ambiance is great; he pays a great deal of attention to how he decorates his salon and always has good music playing in the background. I find the products he uses to be high quality and I purchase them for myself. He is a good listener; sometimes I have a hard time describing what I want but he takes his time to understand and always gets it right. Lastly, and most importantly, he is exceptionally skilled. I never doubt that he could style my hair exactly how I want and my hair consistently looks great when I leave. Overall, I recommend him to anyone looking for a quality haircut. read more

Since my hair stylist changed locations I have been searching for someone to match her not inconsiderable talent and professional approach. Gary easily matched or exceeded my expectiations. Came in for a last minute appointment, because you know, it is the holidays and I've got to look on point. Thankfully, Gary had an opening! He called my number right away and made sure I knew the directions to his salon. He even gave me parking tips! Right there, I knew the others were spot on with their reviews (I googled "best men's hair salon in West LA" and found him listed on Yelp prior to calling). Right from the moment I stepped in the salon, I felt so at ease! He offered me water and asked me a few questions first as to the reason for my visit. He asked whether there were anything in particular in the past which I didn't like when I got a haircut and explained the various styles and which one my last stylist was going for, based on the length of my hair. All throughout the haircut, he made sure I was doing good and answered any of the questions I had. He offered some styling tips and made sure I was satisfied before I left the salon. And yes, I am extremely satisfied!! Great location (close to home), superb service, great haircut, and overall amazing guy! Thanks Gary! See you soon! read more

Gary booked me quickly and on a very short notice late at night during a hair emergency. He was also very understanding when I got lost. He has a very charming salon space. Good music, great decorations, and an HD television showing different scenes from around the world. He gives a very great haircut. Without giving too many details, I arrived sweaty from running with a puffed Afro that could make Bob Ross jealous. I came out looking almost like a boy band member. He is very knowledgeable and answered a lot of random hair questions that didn't relate to my cut. Then when we finished, he came up with a style for my hair, which I loved, and gave me some tips for maintaining it and controlling my volume. His pricing may seem high if you've never had an individual stylist before, but from the experience I have had, he is priced very fair for what you get. As I'm sure anyone who has gone to a boutique rather than a barber shop will know. It's a bit of a drive for me, but I will definitely book a session with him again. 5 Stars, highly recommended. read more
