SJWCA has a warm and supportive atmosphere that teaches children what they need to learn academically, as well as how to behave properly and be kind human beings. There is a real sense of community connection also -- not just to the parish but to the neighborhood at large and our local heroes. Issues of bullying were addressed and resolved. Concerns about grades were addressed and resolved. Support for transfers to other schools and high school admissions (even non-Catholic options) was provided in the interest of what is best for the child. If you're looking for a school who will know and love your children, care for them, teach them, inspire them and keep them safe, you should definitely look into SJWCA.

He had a great time, and learned a lot while working with his fellow students and the wonderful teachers and staff. He couldn't be more proud of the musical theater production they all created together, and that families got to attend at the end of the program (the production was fantastic!) Thank you Serious Fun, COMPASS NYC and DYCD for providing such a quality program which keeps the children engaged, and allows them to express their creativity through acting, singing, dancing, writing, set and technical design and so much more.

We have been a part of the St. Matthias Catholic Academy (SMCA) family for the last 12 years. This…read moreis not just a school; it is a caring community. Volunteering at school allowed me to meet some great parents who became my best friends. Both my children started their education at SMCA from Pre-K. They always had very caring and dedicated teachers. I feel safe leaving my kids at school while I have to go to work. My kids love the school and their friends. My older son graduated from SMCA in 2022; his former teachers always greet him with a smile whenever he stops by his alma mater. SMCA offers a great after-school program led by Ms. Vicky, who knows all the children by their names and ensures they are well cared for. While in after-school, kids do their homework, play games, and work on art projects. The new principal, Mrs.Donahue, is an excellent educator; she is always there to support the students and teachers. She goes above and beyond to ensure our children get a quality education. The school offers regent's prep classes for 8th graders. There are various clubs (Darama, Lego, Prayer, YearBook) and extracurricular activities (piano, band, soccer, basketball, choir). SMCA organizes many family events where we get to spend time with other families (Christmas Show, Family Dance, Radio bingo, 100 Club, etc). St. Matthias Catholic School is a great neighborhood school.

Their average teacher tenure is about 10 years. We have been so impressed by DLS and how they provide so much support to parents with lots of advice and experience. Kate and Meredith have each been at DLS for over 20 years and are just fantastic resources. I don't know what we could have done without them! Our son just started their 4s program and he was part of their 3s program. In his 3s program, he was in a class of 10 children with 2 teachers and currently has 3 teachers with 14 kids in his 4s program. I can honestly say that their program is heads above any program we considered during our search with individualized attention given to his progress. He has cooking class, music class and library every week. They have a rooftop playground with a garden and special wood boards, boxes and sawhorses for kids to independently build things from their imagination. Kate and Meredith are also well known in the NYC school community as they have been around forever and are very helpful during exmissions.
