My child had a medical emergency while at the school and it was unclear how it was actually handled. We received different accounts from the director, area manager, the staff member who accompanied my child to the hospital, and the EMT's who responded to the event. When I asked to see the footage from the time period of the medical emergency I was denied the request. 2. Classes are often combined in the morning or after 4pm, even during disease outbreaks in those respective rooms. Many times I would pick up my child and my child would be in the room where there is a known presence of Croup or Hand Foot Mouth playing with the children from that room. This, to me, demonstrated a lack of genuine care for the well being of the children. 4. My child's teacher recorded and posted a video on the app of another child pushing and kicking my child. My child was kicked 4 or more times and there was no intervention by the teacher. When I addressed this with the director I was simply told this was normal behavior for the age group and if the teacher had deemed to to be excessive she would have addressed it. 5.While regular handwashing is talked about quite a bit during the tour, it was not happening. Many times I picked up my child either right after playtime/before a snack or meal time or during a diaper change and the children were never made to wash their hands. I addressed this observation once with the director and noticed no improvements. 6. My child came home twice with scratches on her body that the staff could never explain. One scratch spanned across her back. 7. My child came home many times with diaper rash, despite us providing 40% zinc oxide diaper cream. On one occasion, I picked my child up and was told that all 3 of the kids left in the room had diaper rash. I don't think it is a coincidence that the last 3 kids left in the room that day all had diaper rash.

We absolutely love it there, and so does our daughter. The teachers are wonderful, evidenced by the almost zero turnover I've seen since we started. The Tadpoles app is a great way to communicate, and you know what they're eating/drinking, when they have diaper changes or use the toilet, when they nap and for how long, and receive photos and videos throughout the day. In addition to the daily Tadpoles updates, there is also the opportunity to sign up for phone calls with the teachers, email teachers directly, and there is a monthly meeting over zoom (recorded and sent with presentation deck after as well) to keep you updated on everything happening. They also make it easy to connect with fellow parents by sharing parent contact info, having designated WhatsApp threads for each classroom, and hosting social events (including adults-only events). I have also been impressed with the curriculum and amazing programs. This year, my daughter had music class, Spanish class, soccer lessons, and yoga lessons! She absolutely loves doing her yoga moves at home and telling me the Spanish words she knows! What I find most helpful though is the guidance and support on when and how to hit certain milestones, including support on starting solid foods, when to switch from bottle to sippy cup, when to switch from sippy cup to open cup, etc. Right now, my daughter is in the beginning stages of potty training, and her excitement for the process started because of the encouragement happening at school. They have an excellent schedule for summer and equally engaging curriculum for winters. My son comes back home talking about concepts he has learnt in school and looks happy on most days. He has always been ahead of the curve in doing things by himself, reading, writing... He also got through the G&T exams based on what he learnt at Sunshine. The principal, teachers and staff are professional, kind and really hard working - they teach kids to be independent, self reliant and confident. The center itself is very clean, hygienic and feels brand new (for the last 4 years). My only complaint was quick transitions from one class to another which brought in instability when my son was young. But it settled down when he turned 3. There was a high turnover rate in the initial few months but we have been seeing same teachers for the last 2 years and that makes us and our son very happy. Paige, Cristal, and now Anissa make such a meaningful effort to reinforce values that will help our kiddo develop, both emotionally and mentally. They've also helped us with several big growth milestones and transitions. The teamwork and communication is really helpful. Beyond the educational benefits, KA is unfussy and grounded -- sometimes a rare find in lower Manhattan. They have an awesome gym room for the kids to play around in. All the teachers knew both my boys personally and would communicate daily about their milestones. The admin team at the time of Ms. Erica and Mr. Richard were also phenomenal. They communicated effectively, and despite running a school with so many young people, knew my boys well! TLE felt like a home away from home.
