When you walk in you will be totally surprised how this one stands out from any other high schools in Brooklyn. Let me start with kids first. While I was walking with my niece from floor to floor kids grab my attention. They all, without exception were so proper and so polite, I couldn't find a single obnoxious kid that was trying to proof something, like they always do at this age. So, wondering around I noticed how identically they all dressed, meanwhile they don't have a uniform here. Well, I couldn't find a single boy, showing his Tommy Hilfiger or Calvin Klein colorful underwear coming half-way from their oversized pants that hanging somewhere between their knees and somehow holding on invisible cooks preventing their fall during each step that seriously limited. All boys wear nice shirts with either jeans or slacks, which were perfectly sized and worn at the waist line. Girls... all well groomed with tight but not that tight pants pretty sweaters and blouses slightly showing skin at the neck line some of them with shoulder drop, but again nothing vulgar. Teacher... Impressive selection of a very talented teachers, you feel like personally thanking principle for doing such a great job! Good mannerism, very talented, you feel right away after talking to them that they do care about their students, but beside that each one of them had a very interesting, unique and some of them super charming personalities. Education.. There are various amounts of courses that promote higher level thinking and prepare students for college and a successful future. I even checked their labs and science rooms and they were filled with all sort of gadgets and supply students need for class-work. Interesting educational posters and projects were covering walls everywhere. They have all kinds of after school activities starting from tennis, basketball, soccer, pingpong and ending with singing, dancing and acting. They even have a program for volunteer at animal shelter on Saturdays. Overall I was pretty impressed with Goldstein hight school.

Sheepshead Bay High School

Sheepshead Bay High School

I survived 4 years in this place!?!?! You've got to be kidding me!…read more The year after I graduated, Sheepshead Bay High School was voted as the 6th most dangerous public school in all of New York City! The average daily occupancy for this school is approximately 2,800 to 3,000. This is assuming that no one skips on classes (which is highly unlikely). In the original planning of the school, the occupancy was meant for approximately 1,000. This is a classic case of maximizing absolutely surplus value (socialist term) amongst inner city schools. Here are my thoughts on my 4 year tenure at this education facility... Teachers: The faculty is highly trained and dedicated in educating and motivating the student consensus. Amongst the various subjects studied throughout Sheepshead (ie: European History, English, Law, Math, etc...), each of the teachers were stringent in the teaching of their subjects. I will take this moment to thank my former teachers, Mr. Trant, Mrs. Newman, Ms. Johnson, Ms. Kovat, Dr. Starr, Ms. Mathews, and many others that instilled in me the desire and importance of achievement in the classroom which ultimately translated to achievement in life. It is a rare breed to find teachers that will go above and beyond the call of their duties to educate and help their students understand the elements that make them successful. For this, the teachers of Sheepshead Bay High School are not to be taken lightly, but rather, Thanked for their courage and dedication. Students: The demographic of the student consensus is greatly diversified, thus representing the population that resides amongst the Sheepshead Bay community. Most students that attend Sheepshead are there not by choice, but rather by zoning mandates. The average tenure of a graduating student at Sheepshead is approximately 4.5 to 5 years. Facility: There's no denying that Sheepshead Bay High School is an extremely old facility. Although some renovations have occurred in such classrooms as the Mock Trail Court Room and Computer Labs, the general education classrooms still lack the updating that's long overdue. With increasing temperature indexes during the summer, air conditioning devices need to be installed in every class room. Environment: During my senior year, fights occurred on average of 5 times a school week. The fights are generally caused by deficiently performing students in a means of either gaining "respect" or attention. The students who are there to educate and better themselves generally avoid conflict situations. Overall the main deterrence in Sheepshead Bay High School's ability to ascend to the upper echelon of high schools in New York City is the inability of the student body to accept that humility, understanding, motivation, dedication, and goals are the five essential elements required to succeed. Until the student consensus has a drastic change in mentality from that of oppression to opportunity, the rigorous negative publicity of this education facility will continue. Despite the exceptional performance of the faculty in attempting to help students achieve, it is ultimate the student that needs to accept and be willing to succeed.

It's 3 floors and the computer room is completely up to date and modern. It has a very old feel to it so many of the religious decorations are original but taken care of very well so they are in pristine condition. The gym is big and really pretty the floors shine there so clean. The school is coed and any students who have passed away there is artwork to memorialize them made by students. Everything seems to be in order and organized in the school I love it visually and I've met a few of the teachers and they are upbeat with a great sense of humor. It's in a very mixed neighborhood now of Chinese Russian and I saw Muslims. The rectory is so beautiful and so preserved it's an old house that's been so well cared for with a really big cross on top I love the architecture of Saint Edmunds school church and rectory and I love how unbelievably clean that they keep it.

The teachers and staff care, most classes seem to be strong and demanding enough for the students to get into good universities (if they choose to); the student body is more diversified than similar schools but still there is some work to do in that area. It's a very good choice in an area that has slim pickings for HS.

But every once in a while, a Russian rock group like Alisa or the DDT rolls into town, or a small chamber theater brings its new play, and the place is transformed into a theater! The look of it doesn't change much. Even during a rock concert it looks exactly like what it is: a school auditorium. But the sound is absolutely terrific, the prices are usually pretty good, and the floor slopes gently to give everyone a great view of the stage no matter where the seat is. Somehow, the high school look of the place gives it a more fun atmosphere, and people in the audience are more open to interacting and making friends with those around them. The space looks visually open, and feels emotionally open.
