I spend a good deal of time at this market, and have always been impressed and pleased with Exargia. Funny, I didn't even know its name until I picked up a business card; it was always just "the Greek place" to us. I decided to write a review because the owner greeted my girlfriend and I one day, and was thrilled that we were Americans. I have never had that experience. He explained that he really wanted to go, and was so kind to us that I'd like to talk a little about his kiosk.
We have a sort of religious fealty to Exargia's moussaka. It's what we get every time we visit. It's mild and boasts remarkable texture - guess it helps that a Greek is over the stove. I think it's four Euros for a big helping and a couple pieces of flat-bread/pita.
We've also had excellent luck with the sauces plate, which is a sampler of what's on display: tzatziki, pureed eggplant, and another...pureed kalamatas? Not sure, but it's all delicious if you're in the mood for Greek food.
This place also vends some super-cheap and super-sweet Greek wine product. I think it's two euros a bottle and although I haven't bought one, it looks too sweet for me. Next time I'm in the mood for a hangover I'll have to pick up a bottle.
It's not easy to find Greek food in Lavapies, but this place is a great step toward filling that gap. read more
