They make an appointment to come out to the house; measure the glass; give you a date they will return with the glass. When Trey come back, they install the glass; take away the glass that was broken, cracked, etc. They clean up very well; to the point you don't need to do anything. I had a get together over the weekend, and one of my friends was bringing in a trampoline. A small one, tucked under her arm. And my storm door must have closed more quickly than she expected, and the glass came in contact with the trampoline and shattered. It's been a rough month for me, with a broken fridge and a spent clutch, but my poor friend was near tears for breaking the storm window, and spent the next hour taping it up really well so no one would get hurt. I was near tears too, but knew how bad she felt, and I can compartmentalize, so I decided to put my feelings on hold at least until after I got some quotes. Another friend thought the timing was uncanny: her son broke their storm door panel too, and she said it cost them $150, but in that "no big deal," kind of way. But they live in North Jersey, so maybe that's a great price for a storm door panel up there? It turns out that replacement storm door panels are difficult to find. After calling around, and spending some time looking online, on Sunday, I came into work on Monday, frustrated, and mentioned my dilemma to my boss, who said, "Ewing Glass! Just bring them the panel and they'll cut a piece of glass for the frame." I went home that night, removed the panel and headed up to Ewing the following morning. The guy who took my order told me that it must have been an old panel - the law requires plexiglas now. He was one of those kind quiet, business-only, older guys who can be hard to read, so he started righting numbers down, and using the adding machine, and I was bracing for the worst. I pulled out a 10% off coupon I found on their website, and he sighed, but said kindly enough, "It's ok. No big deal, I'll just redo the math." $27.93, with tax. Woohoo!! And I got a phone call the following afternoon - the panel was ready to pick up. Very cost effective, and efficient service. I asked if they could also make me a screen insert for that same door, and they can, for only about $30, but I decided not to do that - it's an old door, not really set up for easy window swapping, and I don't want to have to dig out a screwdriver every time the forecast calls for rain. But it's good to know they can make the screens. They have a nice showroom, and offer all sorts of services relating to glass and mirror and I'll definitely be back if I find myself with another pile of broken glass! read more
