I'm leaving a review because I was SHOCKED to see Evydent only had a 3-star rating! I won't totally dismiss other people's experiences, but that's been nothing like my experience at Evydent.
BACKSTORY: I've always been embarrassed by my teeth, and I didn't have great oral hygiene growing up. I grew up largely without parents/adults around by the time I was in middle school, so nobody was really teaching me good habits or checking up on me. By the time I came to NYC for college, I had to get tons of fillings every few years. And because I'd move to a new apartment each year and my insurance would change, I was going to a new dentist each time. I've been to a range of dentists; I've seen rude receptionists, I've seen deceptive billing, I've seen dentists talk down to me or rush through work or ignore me completely or try to upsell me on things I don't need.
EXPERIENCE: Dr. Evy is NONE of those things! Evydent is the first dentist's office I've found that made me feel comfortable. I won't say I look forward to going (it is, after all, still the dentist), but I don't dread it--which is huge for me.
PRICING: The first thing I noticed that was different about Evydent is that they are always very clear about showing the costs of the procedures in advance, before starting any work. Dr. Evy is honest and straightforward. When I had a filling on a wisdom tooth she gave me two options: fill the cavity but may need to remove the tooth later (cheaper option today) or pull the wisdom tooth now (slightly more expensive but likely cheaper in the long run). When I asked if I needed to remove all 4, she said not unless the other 3 were causing me pain.
CUSTOMER SERVICE: I find that all the staff have been super friendly and pleasant. They're understanding when I'm running late, they have payment plans if you need it, they always ask how I'm doing and take time to talk to me. Dr. Evy and I have bonded over what it's like to run a small business and the garish home renovations on TLC; Dr. Passman actually knows where I work and asks me about it each time. I just called with a question about my Invisalign, and Stephanie (the office manager?) answered the phone FROM HOME in the middle of a pandemic and is passing my question on to Dr. Passman for me. I wish I remembered the names of the hygienists (apologies if that's not their actual title), but there's one I always have for Dr. Evy and one who assists Dr. Passman--both always make me smile and help relax me when I first get in.
I don't leave many Yelp reviews. I usually only leave reviews when I'm angry at a place. But, if anything, I'm angry that Evydent has 1-star reviews on Yelp. People should know about this place! One thing I've learned from years of moving from dentist to dentist is that EVERY dentist likes to complain about the previous dentists' work. I think Dr. Evy said something about whoever did my previous fillings. I don't pay much mind to it anymore because, while I'm sure quality does vary, I also think every dentist probably thinks they do superior work. In any case, I hope I'm done moving from dentist to dentist. Even though I no longer live in Inwood, I still commute from 132nd and 5th Ave to see Dr. Evy and Dr. Passman in Inwood. read more
