Okay listen aside from the kind of, well, very high pressure sales tactics they used to get me in…read morehere, nothing they said was invalid and at the end of the day, they were mostly right about everything and I've been 100% happy with my experience. Every gym employs these same sales tactics so, at this point it's nothing new. And besides, if you didn't have someone telling you to get your butt to the gym you probably wouldn't go to start with. My story: I have a triple curve scoliosis in my spine. I've been living with back pain my whole adult life and it was starting to make me very miserable, chronic pain all the time. After chatting about this with my sales consultant they recommended Josh Deck as my personal trainer to address this issue and also my weight loss goals albeit they're the lesser of the two issues. I will say this, the small price I've paid to see him 12 times has resolved my daily back pain 100%. He's got me working hard but also being realistic about what I can manage in my day to day life and routine. It's been so helpful in fact I'm going to keep training with him for as long as I can. I cant say enough great things about Josh as a trainer but I am a special case, training may not be useful for everyone but certainly useful if you've got goals, timelines or a special case injury. The facility: has everything you need and the group classes are included in your very basic monthly membership and they have a very rich schedule to suit everyone's needs. Things are clean and there is always a cardio machine even at 5PM! ALSO - If you have kids, they have a day care facility right in the gym for a tiny little $4 fee for 2 hours. I came to this same Worldhealth in 2005 and left because at the time it was very male centric and desperately needed renos. Which now, the renos are great, layout is functional, they replace broken things quickly, change rooms are nice and honestly the staff know my name and are super helpful and friendly to me all the time. The price is competitive. The location is easy to get to. Free no hassle parking. All girls room which is nice for those awkward times. The demographic is also completely mixed in age, gender and body types. I'm happy and would recommend it to friends for sure :)

Please stay far FAR away from this gym…read more they have super deceptive business practices especially against young adults that will lock you into contracts and coaching you do NOT need. I had no idea what i was getting into years ago when i signed up for this gym, i thought i was getting a good deal on coaching and the place looks nice, but the payments will drown you. If you ever think about canceling, good luck. They will only freeze your account, and force you to pay the full years long term + some extra hidden fees. Save yourself the stress and go to literally any other gym in Calgary, hands down this is the worst one I've ever went to throughout my whole life.

Part of my New Years resolution was to try something new each month, so when a friend invited me to…read morehis Crossfit class because it was "Bring a Friend Day", I said yes! Since I always want to be prepared for anything I get into, I looked up what to expect - the exercises (thanks YouTube!), the terminology (box, WOD, AMRAP, PB, PR) and of course, what to wear lol Jane was our coach for the class and she was awesome! After doing some warm ups, and knowing that a handful of us were beginners, she demoed each exercise before we did them. What I found that was really great about Crossfit is that everyone is really encouraging and supportive. Even though I was huffing and puffing from doing my AMRAP (and possibly sweating profusely), having someone say "Great job on your Thrusters!" makes you go from "Omg someone was watching me?!" to "Yayyyyyy me!" *fist pump* If you like group work outs, but knowing you're only competing with yourself (PR and PB!), give Crossfit a try. Besides, when was the last time you did something for the first time?

Train RIGHT - Compete - get RESULTS…read more Are you training for a race? Competitive athlete? You've got to check out TCR. It's been some time that I trained with Cory (the owner of TCR). He coached me back in my rugby days when I played for Calgary in the RCSL (Rugby Canada Super League). However, today a buddy called me and said, "hey, I'm buying a mountain bike, where should I go?" Well, TCR offers mostly road bikes for Tri & IronMan. They do have a mountain bike on the showroom floor but it just might be overkill for my buddy. That said, what TCR does do is bike fittings. If you're going to INVEST in a bike, invest in a bike that actually fits YOU. Think... life time value of my investment... think like that, spend the small fee on a fitting and you'll buy a bike that is kind to your body over the coming years of millions of peddle rotations... Cory (the owner) or Rich will fit you... and THEN you go invest your money in the right bike... be it there at TCR or another store. Secondly, if you're competing... they'll inspire the athlete within! Take their VO2 Max test... you'll HATE the test - I did - but you'll quickly learn what zone you should train in and at what level of intensity. Again, train on your own without this knowledge... how will you know you're training efficiently? TCR is a small boutique lab & retail store in Kensington (not on Parkdale as the Yelp address states) They're just above Mission Snow Boards and in the same strip mall as Nellies Breakfast. The staff know there stuff ...be it bikes, lab testing, nutrition, service, repair, bike storage, Cancervive, Tri's, Ironman... You're an athlete in training? Rugby, Soccer... even biking... stop by TCR for a little lab work. Put it this way, just a few years back when Theo Fleury got back into shape for Flames camp, Cory was his trainer! Theo showed up to camp as the 8th most fittest athlete. I take competition seriously, if you do too... go to TCR. PS: I don't charge extra for typo's - they're just my gift to you ;-)

It's a good gym with good equipment but nothing overly special. If you don't want to go broke,…read moredon't go here because holy hell are the prices outrageous. Went for a drop in to workout with a friend who goes there, expecting an average $12-$15 drop in fee... ITS $26?! There's no way that is even close to justifiable. Considering the memberships are also $80/month, GoodLife should have the nicest gyms in the country but they're average at best for "nicer gyms". Won't be going back. The Glencoe Club has a drop-in fee for $20 (if one of your family members is a member there) & that place is an entire resort.

I signed up for a 7 day membership to test out the gym and was ready to sign up for a 2 year…read moremembership, mainly out of proximity to home. When I went in to sign the contract, I was told that I had an outstanding balance of $250 from when I was a member 2 years ago. I was told that it was sent to collection (affecting my credit negatively) and that I would have to pay the full amount to be able to sign up again. First, I wasn't able to get an explanation to why I had that $250 outstanding. I was given a 1-800 number and every time I call, it says they can't take new callers and hangs up. The request forms on line don't work, so I can't even get an explanation from their head offices. Second, they sold the debt to a collection company, which means that it was written off by them and they no longer own said debt. Asking to collect on a debt they no longer own is misleading and deceptive. They want me to pay the $250, for which they have no explanation, and if I were to pay, then there is still a collection company out there I still owe $250 to as well. Now I'm out $500 ?! That is definitely double dipping and they are more worried about squeezing money from customers than they are about customer retention. As for the gym itself, it is located in eau claire market, which is depressing and deserted most of the time. It starts your gym routine in a depressing mood. There are a lot of squat cages, but the cardio machines are outdated and falling apart. The stationary bicycles aren't bolted down properly, so they shake or are unbalanced when peddling with any effort. Most of the TVs come in grainy on the cardio equipment. Definitely not enough room for the free weights, so people are constantly stepping on each other for space. Then people are forced to work out around the squat cages, which makes using them very awkward. There are plenty of better gyms in my opinion in the core, that offer a better atmosphere and aren't only worried about gouging customers
