In May 2024, I brought my silver flute to Evolution Music to be sold through their consignment program. Jon Teeter, the staff member assisting me at the time, took the instrument for sale. Since then, I haven't received any communication--it's now nearly a year later. I've sent multiple follow-up emails over the past several months with no response. Today, I decided to call in hopes of finally getting an update. Instead, I was routed to a virtual assistant that was so lifelike, I initially thought I was speaking to an actual person. No one from the store has returned my call. I left my flute with this business a year ago, followed up twice via email, and now I've been left in the dark yet again. This level of unresponsiveness is completely unprofessional. What happened to real customer service? It's incredibly disappointing. Has this place gone out of business? I ordered something online (music stand cup holder) more than 3 weeks ago. Never received any notifications about its status (order acknowledgement said I would be notified). Their online help chat was unresponsive. Sent an email, got no response. I hate to give stores of brick and morter bad reviews. I brought them an item that goes for about 750 on reverb. They said they would sell it for me. Weeks passed. I tried to keep in touch via email. They asked for my cash app and said they would wire the $$$. But they stopped returning emails. I tried calling - they sure had a robot screening those. I went to the store asked about my item. They tried to undercut me. I smiled and said OK. Let me have the item back. I didn't think about it. I didn't notice at the store but they didn't give me the item complete in box like it was when i gave it to them. I am honestly scared to test it at this point. Not very professional. I would recommend using reverb instead of supporting this local business. Kind of felt like they just wanted to scam me in the first place. Nice. Thanks guys. read more

What a poor excuse for a music store. The inventory is low end crap that half the time has issues, so buyer beware. They advertise that they buy instruments but when you try to sell they often say they don't have the money to pay out. Classy place, huh? Don't waste your time here. read more

I purchased a guitar from evolution music online and payed with my paypal account. Even after I payed for the item they kept the guitar listed in hopes of getting someone to pay more? They would not reply to any of my messages ,and then 10 days later they issued a refund with no explanation. BUYER BEWARE ! This is no way to run a business. read more

Evolution Music in Orland Park, (as well as the other shops), are THE BEST AROUND! I have been going there for years. Mitch and the staff are EXCEPTIONAL and the gear they carry are top notch at VERY fair prices. The really cool thing is that you can walk in and practically find whatever you might be looking for and even some surprising gear, and if not one of the knowledgeable staff members will be happy to help you. Years ago my parents purchased unique machine gun shaped electric guitars for our sons, who were taking lessons at the time. The guitars then sat for years collecting whatever guitars collect. Then this year we decided to recondition them and pass them on to our grandson as an heirloom gift. We took the guitars to Evolution Music, who described what needed to be done and for the sake of timeliness recommended another music store for the work because some unique parts had to be ordered. When looking for a reputable business, we look for 3 things: quality , price and HONESTY. Evolution has all three! This, like many stores that deal online as well as through a brick and mortar store, tends to be lacking in integrity. I purchased a used microphone from them on eBay only to be told a day later they sold it in store. I checked and it still is on their own online site for sale. I'm tired of these folks screwing the faceless online buyers by selling for a few dollars more in their outlet and I would highly discourage anyone patronizing Evolution Music in any form! After telling them I expected they hold up their end of the transaction, delivering to me same make, model and condition..they simply said no giving excuses THEN doing a user info search on me. Their seller ID on eBay is evolutionmusicinc and people would be wise to stay clear of these people. It especially creeps me out they would actually do a user info search on me after I already communicated with them by email I would NOT let them off the hook. read more

Great service, understanding instructors, talented recording engineers, and inexpensive repairs are most of what I've experienced from this awesome local music shop. Great guitar lessons! Very talented and patient teacher. Recommended for beginners as well as more advanced students.

NOTE: i can only speak for the retail side of evolution. the hours posted on the web and via the automated answering machine stated that they open at 11am, yet i waited til 12:15 for someone to show up. also, i came to check out/purchase an item that STILL shows available on the web store, yet the employee said it was already sold. most of the gear is no-name junk and needs serious attention. on a positive note, it seems like evolution is trying to do good things for the music community and the website is well done. read more

I was interested in purchasing some gear as well as selling my pa speakers. I went in the store and no one said a word to me. The guys working there just continued to talked amongst themselves. I stayed for about 15 minutes while they continued to talk. I went to the counter where they were standing and they continued to talk to each other. As I made my way to the exit still no greeting or "do you need any help?" This is the last time I will ever come to the store. read more

Great place overall. Took lessons there for over a year and my teacher (Jon) did a great job showing me the basics as well as advanced technique and was very helpful in many ways, you could tell he had music in him and it wasnt for the money: he showed me songs simply by ear, various techniques, and often held me after for longer than my lesson time and fixed my guitar for free. Their used merchandising is still developing but its nice to see them over time accumulate a wide inventory, and they also have very reasonable prices. This is a place to stay far away from. They call themselves promoters, but all they do is rent a room and take the gate. The entire gate. There is no promotion for you or your band. Their place at 15636 s. 70th ct. is a dump. Very dirty and smells like a locker room in need of cleaning. The place is a small warehouse with poor lighting and worse acoustics. Seems like the only way they "mix" the sound is with a volume knob. Just because it is extremely loud does not mean it sounds good. JT, (the owner?) is very unprofessional and rude. He comes across as a know-it-all and has a condescending attitude if you ask any questions about venues or stage time. He does little to nothing to promote the shows that he books, relying on Facebook and the bands to get the word out about the shows. Very unorganized shows where nobody seems to know what is going on. He basically takes the money from ticket sales and runs. My advice is to stay far away from Evolution Music. read more
