I headed to Evil Genius for their once-a-year Hot Ones-style wing challenge, built off the popular YouTube show where celebrities torch their tastebuds while answering questions. The brewery used the same sauces and ran their own version of the rapid-fire Q&A -- and it was an absolute blast. Somewhere around the middle rounds I'm pretty sure my mouth tried to leave my body, but that's part of the charm. The questions were great, the energy was high, and the whole place had that "controlled chaos with a smile" vibe that makes for a perfect night out. Even without the challenge, Evil Genius is worth the trip. The beer is cold, the staff is sharp, and the whole place carries that fun, slightly mischievous Philly spirit without any of the big-city hassle. Burned my mouth? Definitely. Would do it again? Without hesitation. Highly recommend Evil Genius Beer Company.
Evil Genius is an awesome bar! It's super spacious and always well decorated! There was a burlesque show last night had no cover! The dancers were incredible and put on a great show. Food and drinks were great, fast, and the staff couldn't be better! Parking sucks around here but that's the only down side!
Really fun Brewery. Highly recommend if you're in the Fishtown area. All the beers were great and the few snacks we tried were very good. Great hangout spot before a show.
We attended a drag brunch here today and it was so much fun! The event was fantastic and the place was very cool! They were still decorated for Christmas, which was amazing! The staff were great, the drinks were perfect and the food was good. Nice, clean and plenty bathrooms. We only tried appetizers but they were really good, we got the hummus platter and the cranberry dip, but I don't think I got any pictures of the food. Really a fun place and not too hard to find free street parking right nearby
Evil Genius Beer Company, Philadelphia, PA. Genius? Abso-freaking-lutely! I would vacation here! Great vibe. Old Carriage factory. They use old factory equipment in decor, you know I love that! It is at least 4 spaces in one: 1. Bar seating, 2. inside seating, 3. gaming area, and 4. garden seating. Garden is dog-friendly with a Friday afternoon yappy hour. The bartender was friendly and picked the perfect beer for me. Great diverse selection of beers. Fun beer names. '80s movies on the TVs. No cheesesteak, but I had an amazing pastrami sandwich. We are a cheesesteak and parking away from being the perfect couple that all of our friends would be jealous of.
Such a cool vibe and great staff. The place is huge with an outdoor area as well. I just wish the entire bar were open inside, as it's hit or miss with the seating. I also don't like waiting in line for a beer as sometimes people don't know what they want, and it can be frustrating when you're waiting behind them. They have a full bar and a lot of beers on tap. You can order flights, which allows you to taste four at a time. They have mocktails as well as cocktails and the bartenders can make you anything you'd like. Snack menus are on old Blockbuster Video holders, which for old people like me, was very nostalgic to see :-).
We walked into Evil Genius and sat at the bar for a beer. I loved the unique and funny names of the beers! I was really tempted to try the Lucky Charms beer, but I got the kiwi sour instead. It was great! Tart but not overwhelmingly kiwi. They were setting up for live music on Saturday night. The bartender service was friendly and prompt. Overall, this was a fun place to grab a beer.
My friend and I stopped before the rest of our group got to town for a couple beers. The bar tender was so nice and helpful. I ordered a flight to try a couple different beers. We played some games that were on the bar and chatted. The vibe of this place is so cool would have loved to spend more time there or to have gone back at some point during the weekend.
TLDR: Awesome atmosphere, great beer. Perfect place to spend a Saturday with friends. Vibe: 4/5. Located in the heart of Fishtown, Evil Genius has a sprawling complex complete with both indoor and outdoor seating. On the Saturday I visited, they had the entire street blocked off directly in front of the brewery for an impromptu concert and street hangout. I am unsure if this is a weekly occurrence, but it was very well organized and welcoming to everyone. They had several tables and beer tents set up as well as a mobile axe throwing booth (free!). The band playing was extremely talented and played a great selection of pop classic covers throughout the afternoon. My only wish is that Evil Genius rented a few port o pots for the outside festivities, as the brewery only has a handful of unisex stalls which caused a wait for the bathroom. Service: 5/5. The staff at Evil Genius were great from first to last pint. When we visited, you could purchase beer at both the inside bar and an outside tent setup in the street. Both locations were quick to get patrons their order and friendly in the process. Security manning the door was also friendly as you entered and exited the front door. Beer: 4/5. The beers at Evil Genius were both creative and tasty. I was able to sample the bacon beer and one of their IPAs and both were tasty. Pricing was reasonable as well, with pints hovering around the $8 range. If I wasn't so caught up in the outdoor festivities, I would have loved to sample a flight of beer to really get a better idea of their beer offerings, but maybe next time!
This was a quick stop in Philly for the family. It caught my eye because I read in some reviews/blogs it was known for 90s music and ambience. There was definitely some of that with the music and de or in the front of the place, but I was hoping for a more grungy, pop punk vibe. Our party of four shared two flights - my husband and I got numbers 2,4,6,8 and 10. The lemon chamomile Hefe and the Lucky Charms IPA were definitely the biggest letdowns - not overly flavorful. My favorite was the chocolate hazelnut imperial stout - smooth and very tasty. The overall ambience of the space was really cool - I liked the tall ceilings, exposed brick and skylights. My friends and I went here for Wednesday night quizzo and it was really fun! The place is a nice size, lots of seating. I don't normally like beer but get fomo when at brewery's, so I tried the "I pick things up and put them down" (and got a small size) and I finished it, which I normally never do so that's a good sign. I thought the place was kind of warm, but maybe that's just me lol. the appetizers weren't that bad, we tried the hummus and the Buffalo chicken dip, but for the price I expected a little more. It's definitely just quick bar food. My friends enjoyed their Cuban sandwich though. Would definitely go back for quizzo!
Really large brewery with nice outdoor beer garden. Beer was okay, staff friendly. They also serve food which looked tasty.
Visiting the Philadelphia area and enjoy checking out local breweries wherever we visit and this place was recommended by a local. Pros: Nice outdoor Biergarten! Love the idea of using old blockbuster cases to get the menu/beer menu. Water in a cooler outside for those hanging outside can just grab a glass of water. Cons: Could not sit inside bc we did not have our vaccination card with us. Husband liked some of the beers he tried but some were not his favorite.
Incredible experience overall. Service and food and entertainment; absolutely loved it!! I can't wait to come back. Drag brunch was AMAZING! By far the best drag event I've ever been to. So much fun, high energy, engaging with the crowd, and still fabulous food/ drink service in the middle of the show. The drinks were delicious, strong, and reasonably priced. All of the food was great and perfect for sharing with the table. read more
Stopped by on a Saturday night and it was totally a vibe. The live music was rockin and playing absolute bangers (2000s throwbacks iykyk). Vibes immaculate although hard to have a conversation with the music being so loud. Separately, beers were slightly less impressive than the vibes. We ordered a couple IPAS, the sour on tap (kiwi dragonfruit) and a seasonal ale (rocket pop ale). Of the 4 beers, average rating was about a 3/5. Not bad but definitely left something to be desired. The kiwi sour and rocket pop ale left a bready aftertaste which wasn't bad but a little unexpected. IPAs were more standard and what you would expect. Prices were good too. $9 for 20oz, $7.50 for 16oz Overall, the beers weren't the best but I'd overlook that for a good time read more
Fun times were had at Evil Genius 15th anniversary block party! Even with the big crowds, service was great, the weather was perfect, the live music was banging and I loved the Pumpkin Porter! The kids and dogs were enjoying themselves in the beer garden. read more

I've been to evil genius several times - for drag shows or being dragged by friends to go. I personally would skip, but there are a lot of redeeming qualities. The ambience is not my taste, with the bathrooms painted with cartoon characters, huge leather couches and booths, old board games and trivia games strewn around tables, but it's definitely a vibe. It's normally pretty busy and you have to order food from an app which is a less personalized experience. The food is your standard bar food fare. The beers are all a bit Gimmicky, but I do love the peanut butter one solely for my love of PB. I'd definitely return but only if someone else suggested it - I just have other breweries I personally prefer like Love City and St. Oner's! read more

Popular Brewery with a cute beer garden in the back [Beware of mosquitos though]. One of the servers came through with some bug spray! Need your Vax card to sit inside and they check out front against your ID and give you a wrist band if you have your card. [Card and pics of card available]. Sitting outside can be loud as You're next to a subway/train system. QR Codes on a blockbuster box which was a super cool idea [if you know what blockbuster is of course ]. Their beer names are cute but some of the names are really long. They do have food where you can order it Mon through Sat. Justin at the front was super helpful and had great conversation. Sitting outside, you can order from the QR Code, we ordered a flight of 5: A. You're Killin Me Smalls - Raspberry Shandy - you can definitely tell it's a Shandy from the taste and smell but you don't get too much of the raspberry. This is my #3 Pick. B. Baby Shark - Mosaic Pale Ale- Not a big fan as this was too hopy for me but still a light beer otherwise. This is a hazy pale ale. This is my #5 pick. C. We've Been Trying to Reach You About Your Cars Extended Warranty - Belgian Table Beer - simple and refreshing beer that's easy to drink. I enjoyed this beer a lot, probably my #4 pick. D. Peach Cobbler - the most flavorful out of the 5 and my favorite for sure. You definitely get a great peach Cobbler flavor. #1 pick hands down. E. QR What You Drink - Passionfruit Blonde - you can definitely taste the passionfruit and it's a light beer as well. This is my #2 pick. Definitely liked the decor and cool place to go. read more

This is a fun happy hour spot! Happy hour is all day on Tuesday but the brewery closes at 8. There is a large outdoor space with socially distanced tables. The menu is available via a QR code. Ordering is done via the code. There is a good variety of beer and cocktails. Happy Hour prices were good. Cocktails $6, beers $5 The cocktail was better than I expected at a brewery. We didn't eat just stopped for a drink. The food menu looked good with lots of choices. Servers wore masks and hand sanitizer was available. read more

Great place with simple food, good beer, and even better cocktails. Maybe I'm just biased because I'm not a beer fan, but the cocktails always knock it out of the park. A quirky area with fun names, tasty drinks, and good staff - what more could you want? Sandwiches that stuck out to us: Turkey bacon tomato sandwich with cajun remoulade - ohhhhhh that cajun remoulade was sooo good! Reuben with corned beef, swiss, kraut, thousand island dressing on rye. PERFECT for a chilly day. read more

Next up on the brewery visits...The Evil Genius! What immediately caught my eye was the super clever names of the beers. Hard to pass up on beer named after 90s pop songs or IG hashtags. Stopped in after brunch with friends on a Saturday afternoon and it was packed. We got lucky to find a table towards the back. The process to get your flights is cool. At the beginning of the line you get a card and write down the numbers of the 5 options you want and when you reach the register the staff put them in this circular A-E order and enjoy! Staff was friendly. Learned that tours are ONLY offered at 2pm Saturdays with the exception of private tours booked for groups. Music choice was interesting to say the least, but def good sing alongs lol. Games are available at tables (good luck with the mismatch Jenga pieces). Multiple bathrooms which is great considering how packed it was. Oh! my favoirte part after the great beer was the PRICE! Can't beat it coming from a New Yorker. Would def be coming back to check this spot out and enjoy the patio for warmer days. read more
Came in on an early Saturday evening and it was MOBBED. Tunes consists of Fall Out Boy, Blink182, and some other alternative boy bands. The establishment is decked out with QR codes on what it appears to be a rental from Blockbuster. The hostess was friendly, and told us to find a seat wherever was open but ended up stopping my friend and I from walking out and letting us know she found an open spot for us to sit which is an A+ service in my book. Several options to choose from. read more

As this was a fairly quick stop while bar hopping with friends, I will say that there is a pretty hefty list to choose from. I did not end up getting food, but from what I did see on the menu it's definitely a bar food situation, think pretzels, mozzarella sticks that kind of situation. Evil Genius is definitely more of a lively place as well, as it was packed when we arrived. Luckily they have a large staff so it was not hard to get served once we arrived. I would recommend coming here for group hangs, when bar hopping on a Saturday afternoon. read more
Of course Evil Genius has been on my "must visit" list for sometime - I finally made it! The space is HUGE and I liked the retro vibe and comfy lounge area. There are Large TV's with sports or movies playing - keeps you engaged. There are also all types of games to play as well-stay away from "thinking games" while drinking - you always think you are a genius, but really end of sounding like a drunken philosopher...LOL The outside space is cool too - bar - the fire pit and twinkle lights make you wanna spend more time - not a bad thing when the beer selections are pretty good! I started out with the Nachos and a flight - both were good. I decided to move onto the can release for the night! It was a good time and I'll be back for sure. read more
Came here as part of the inaugural Keystone Comic Con. Evil Genius partnered with the con for a lime-ginger saison, and it makes sense, a lot of the decor is pretty nerdy, and evil genius implies just the same. It was a hop and a skip away from where I was staying in Center City but I'm glad I got the chance to try out this spot. On top of the saison, I did a beer flight, which included 5 beverages of your choice. I really liked their saison, which I think was a con specialty. Out of the flight, I think I only liked 1 or 2 out of the bunch, but that's okay, no hard feelings. Staff was very accommodating and the space is both large and cozy. There's plenty of TV's and you can even grab a game to play with friends. Didn't try the food, but it smelled good. read more

The beer is good, and it's a nice brewery with outdoor space during this time. Watch out for the food menu, you should totally go to the food truck right outside. You're able to bring that food in, and the portions are fairly large. The food at the brewery is selling is very small, and not worth the price. My Mac and cheese was 1/4 cup, and $7!! Fish and chips from the food truck are $10, go for that instead!!! read more
