It's a great way to give back to the community and give these fur babies some love and attention! The volunteer class was very organized and informative. We got a shirt at the end and we got to volunteer for about 90 minutes afterward too, and now we're all set! We adopted an 18 month old cat here a few years ago and have been hooked ever since. We'll definitely get our next cat & dog from here too. Adoption fees are nominal considering the care and attention each animal receives. The cattery is our favorite spot, but we pick a couple of Level 1 dogs to give our attention too as well. Adopt, don't shop!

The cats I adopted were in good condition when I adopted them and have stayed that way for the eight years since I adopted them. Each of the volunteers was wonderful to talk to and it was obvious they loved the animals who were there and wanted them in the best possible home. I highly recommend Helotes Humane Society if you want to adopt or foster an animal!

SADTC helped me through one of the most difficult times in my life - raising a lab puppy…read more When I chose Kona as a puppy 7 weeks old, I knew her parents - a 110lb male and a 100lb female. They were short and stout and STRONG. I used my brain and decided I did not want a 100lb lab ruining my life, my things, and my patience, so I decided to put her through some training classes as opposed to buying a few books and doing it on my own. I had watched through the window at a few of the PetSmart training sessions and not blown away by what I saw, or by the people who were attending the class (classmates are very important in dog training classes, as you don't want to be with somebody who can't or doesn't want to handle their jerky dog). Luckily, I bought a wire dog crate from a woman on Craigslist who told me all about the wonders of SADTC (I met her at the Humane Society where she and her German Shepherd were attending a class). I kept SATDC stuck in the back of my mind until I felt Kona was ready for some good ol' fashioned learnin.' SADTC holds their classes at the SA Humane Society at 410 & Fredericksburg. Each of the classes I took had about 15 people in each. All dogs are to have their shots, and luckily, most of the dogs weren't total dbags to begin with. Kona and I took the Clicker 1 and 2 classes, and both instructors were smart and knew what they were doing. By the end of the Clicker2 class, Kona can sit, stay, down, "leave it," walk very well on-leash, and do a few other entertaining tricks. If you are a crazy-dog-person, the further classes include something to do with Dog Dancing, as well as more involved obedience classes to prepare you for showing your dog if that's your thing. A caveat: Your dog will only be trained as well as you train it. Don't expect magic to happen if you aren't willing to practice and learn along with your dog. A+++ Would train with again!!!

My dog is genetically programmed to be aggressive towards other animals, especially dogs. Koen was completely honest about her abilities and what I could realistically expect from her, unlike other places that promised have her "fixed" in 4 weeks. That's not how training works! She has made so much progress controlling her impulses, and we are learning together, with our trainer, how to strengthen what she learned and continue to improve. Becca is absolutely wonderful. The two best things about this journey were meeting my puppy AND meeting Becca. I am so in love with my Hamilton. He's the best boy.
