My husband and I eloped at New York City Hall, just the two of us. We wanted to have a photoshoot to capture the experience and Everly Studios was one of the first to come up on Google. We met with Jocelyn Voo over Zoom before moving forward with working with her for our special day as our photographer and our witness. Jocelyn was absolutely outstanding for more reasons than one. Firstly, we felt that she really "GOT" us, from start to finish. She listened to our vision (dark, moody, candid, casual, gritty) and as wild as some of our ideas were, she totally leaned in and delivered exactly what we were looking for! Jocelyn was the ideal wedding photographer for us, and I can't recommend her highly enough. My husband and I knew we wanted to do a small city hall wedding in NY, since it was where we met. After a lot of research, we found that there were multiple photographers specializing in city hall photos, but Jocelyn's website was one that we kept coming back to. Let me start by saying, Jocelyn is a dream to work with! From the moment we met Jocelyn, my now wife and I, knew we had chosen the right person for the job. TLDR; We hired Jocelyn for our NYU family graduation photoshoot and she was an amazing portrait photographer! I've worked with many professional portrait photographers before and she is definitely one of my favorites for many reasons: 1) Flexibility and Communication We changed our appointment time last minute due to delays in our graduation ceremony and Jocelyn was incredibly understanding. Leading up to the event, Jocelyn had us prepare iterations for our photoshoot since we had a big group and on the day of, she brought the iterations with her to make sure everything was checked off. She also arrived a bit early so we could go over our expectations for the shoot and tailor it to the weather. 2) Photoshoot Experience We had a large party of 10 people since it was me and my roommate's graduation photoshoot and with our family's language barrier and unfamiliarity with photoshoots, it could be difficult for many photographers. But Jocelyn was so understanding and tried to make everyone as comfortable as possible by giving pose suggestions and ideas. In addition, our families had their own mini cameras and phones and wanted to get shots and Jocelyn was more than happy to accommodate and gave them the time/space to. Jocelyn was a squillion kinds of amazing and my husband and I couldn't be happier with the way our wedding photos turned out! The two of us are both immensely unphotogenic, and she managed to completely cover up that fact and get take photos where we look like normal, happy people. :D Our family and friends have not stopped raving about how much they love our pictures. My husband and I decided to get married at the Manhattan City Hall, just the two of us and a photographer to capture the moment. I reached out to Jocelyn via email after we saw her portfolio and loved it. Jocelyn was prompt and friendly in her responses and set up a skype chat to make sure that she was a good fit for us (and we for her). She helped answer any questions we had about the City Hall process, and put up with our dithering over what our date would be and then where we wanted our non-City Hall photoshoot location to be (thank you for your patience!). The day of, Jocelyn met us at City Hall with a huge smile on her face. Neither my husband nor I enjoy having photos of us taken and find posing for them to be immensely awkward, so we wanted to make sure that we'd have a photographer to capture our real selves rather than some posed version of thereof. She struck a perfect balance of friendly chatting as we passed the time, and casually fading into the background to take photos when she saw we were relaxing to snap some truly candid shots. After the ceremony, we took a cab to Central Park to take photographs at Bethesda Fountain and the Naumburg Bandshell, where my husband and I have been going to see the (free!) classical concerts every summer since we met. It was around 25F that day, but Jocelyn managed to keep us laughing and helped us forget that we couldn't feel our fingers and toes anymore (and she never gave any indication that she was miserable because of the cold, either). Even though our individual shots were a bit posed, she managed to make it not awkward and fun, and she was really careful about making sure to document all the small, personal touches we'd added to what we wore that day. Jocelyn told us that we could expect preview of our shots within 24-48h and our full album in 4-6 weeks, but she overdelivered and we got our previews that night, and our full album a bit earlier than promised as well. Jocelyn's work as a wedding photographer is so stunning that I asked her if she is also a family photographer. I have two young kids, and although I spend a lot of time taking pictures of them on my own, I really wanted to find someone to take photos of us as a family. Before we met, Jocelyn sent over a few location ideas and we talked about the type of style I was looking for. It never felt rushed - before we started shooting, she took the time to get to know my 6 year old and 2 year old, individually. They're pretty shy around new people, so this was impressive. To say Jocelyn is a wedding photographer is an understatement. Yes, she was the photographer of my wedding and yes (oh my, yes!) the photos she took were gorgeous. Her portfolio is as true as true can be. How we got to those gorgeous photos is what makes all the difference in the world. Jocelyn is at once a complete professional and so incredibly chill. When we first met her, she was precise in her presentation of her work and immensely helpful in her suggestions of navigating the byzantine process of getting married in New York City. I was never once overwhelmed, and in fact, put at ease because of her deep knowledge of the process. On the day of the wedding Jocelyn alternated between shepherding my family around City Hall (my guests had a wandering spirit in them) and taking incredible pictures. Jocelyn is a fantastic wedding photographer! We traveled from Texas to NYC for our elopement at the city clerks office. She FaceTimed with us ahead of the event to get an idea of what we wanted out of her photos and also to give us important details about the process of actually getting married at the city clerks office which was very helpful. She met us on the day of our wedding and did a great job of catching us and our friends and family in more candid photos as well as getting some very nice posed photos.
