Well ordered the steamed dumplings which were good but a tad overcooked, but the "sauce" made up for it. And we tried the Hunan Chicken and Singapore Rice Noodles which were both delicious! Everything is severely underseasoned. I ordered Mongolian beef, crispy beef, egg rolls, and steamed dumplings. The dumplings where dried out and stuck together with really thin noodles on the outside. The sauce they gave with them added almost no flavor. The crispy beef was by no means crispy had almost no flavor and came with a sauce that was just sweet. The Mongolian beef was mostly onions like no beef. I used to live in Inwood and one of our favorite place was Evergreens. In our opinion they care the best Chinese restaurant we have ever been to. I don't understand the negative reviews, we ate there at least once a week for 4 years and the food and services perfectly every time. I recently made a trip back from Atlanta with a friend of mine and while there I took her to Evergreens and she loved it as much as we did!!! Fast service and as always the food was delicious. Good food overall, however the service is awful. I ordered my food 15 minutes before arriving. Upon arriving the woman up front said it would be another 5 minutes, and she proceeds to start placing bags on the counter. She never says anything more to me, and then 20 minutes later a huge rush of people come in waiting as well. I ordered through Doordash, I figured I would give them a try. The delivery was fast. Faster then normal. I literally got my food in 10 minutes after ordering. I figured that's cool since we live literally around the block. Well, I ordered General Tso chicken, Orange Chicken, steamed rice, fried rice, sushi crab roll, Pork Lo-Mein, Crab Ragoons, egg rolls and egg drop soup. The chicken was raw and made me sick. The steamed rice was smelly, and tasted unsanitary like someone was scratching their rear and handling the rice. The Egg Drop soup was unsanitary, and tasted like urine. The crab ragoon sauce tasted like someone had dropped make-up in it. I had such a bad experience, I decided to throw everything away and I was literally afraid to try the pork lo-mein, and fried rice. However, the sushi crab roll was really good and is the only reason I am giving Evergreen 2 stars. I would highly recommend their sushi rolls, for the low price you pay I would go back for those. Some of the food is okay, like the cheese wontons and appetizer dumplings. However, everything else seems to miss the mark. The fried rice and the lo mein are so bland. The general tso (or any chicken dish) is sometimes chicken and other times mystery meat. If you order food from here I would only stick to the appetizers. Everything else is questionable. Oh my god what happened to this place. When I lived here before it wasn't bad but man it's terrible now!! I SPECIFICALLY asked for my food in a red and white oyster pale (the kind of take out box that Chinese is supposed to come in) and with chopsticks. I received food in styrofoam boxes which the food melted through...and no chop sticks. This is a small place with about four tables and is mostly carryout: clue, lunch is presented in foam carry out boxes (see pictures). 4* for overall quality and value. Lunch specials are $4.95 (all) which include choice of entree, steamed or fried rice, and egg roll, spring roll, or crab rangoon (2 large pieces). On the luncheon menu (11 AM to 3 PM), there are about 30 choices, but make that ~50 because for Hunan--for example-- it's listed as Hunan beef/chicken/shrimp. Same for Kung Pao, etc. Dinner combination plates are similar at about $6.95-7.50. The dinner menu is typical, but they have scallops ($9.95 several varieties), and a few other items not on the lunch menu, like Mu Shu (meat/shrimp). They also have a dozen "Chef's Specialties." I had the Hunan Shrimp. I was pleased, as there were about 10 shrimp in the lunch portion, when usually you see about 5-6. Same for my wife's shrimp and lobster sauce. My dish had nicely sauteed crunchy fresh veggies. The Hunan "spice" was nicely peppered, but not overpowering to cause me reflux. I had the fried rice, wife had the steamed rice. Egg Roll was average, Crab Rangoon was excellent. The dining area is small, but decent enough--we ate in. The luncheon menu is the cheapest around and with the choices available, you do much better than fast food. read more

Their food is "OK" but it's not the best honestly the food in the next city over is better. The only reason I go there is because they are in Inwood which is where I live. Their customer service is lacking... I literally went there today and stood there while the employee assisted someone right in front of me and then walked away to take a couple of phone calls and do pretty much busy work while I stood there for about 10 minutes unacknowledged. He then finally acknowledged me...my food had been sitting on the counter the entire time and not only did he not bring it over but again went to do other things and then someone else finally brought me my food. I'm not a complainer, I'm slow to anger, but a situation with a takeout order from Evergreen that I was party to just last night makes me want to speak out because I'm disturbed and perturbed by how Evergreen dealt with an incorrect takeout order. I was given the wrong takeout order last night after work. No sweat these things happen. I realized the mistake once I looked in the bag, about 10 minutes after I got home from work/picking the order up. Should I have looked to see if I got the right order? Yeah, probably, but we've all had days we're just barely slogging through and just want to go home and veg out. I notice they've called my phone, I call them back...and they ask me to bring back the incorrect order. Let me repeat that in a new paragraph to let it sink in: I was asked to bring back the food that they incorrectly gave me. And not just that, when I arrived, it was swiftly placed back on the "ready to go orders" counter space like nothing had happened. (And outside of the fact that that's kind of sort of a health code concern, there's also the fact that I was offered no discount of any kind for having to use my gas and time to drive back so they could correct their mistake...but I suppose that pales in comparison, yeah?) So, take this as a word of warning, and I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't personally dealt with the situation, but I won't be eating at Evergreen ever again and I made sure to let my workplace (which isn't too far down the road from the place) know about this concern, too. read more

Order DoorDash through them. I was given the wrong order and couldn't get a hold of the door dasher so called them. The first woman kept telling me to come there and pick up my order. No matter how many times I explain the situation. That's all she kept saying very rudely.. she then put another gentleman on the phone that seem to understand me until I told him that I received the wrong order. He then proceeded to tell me that I needed to come pick up my order and started speaking in his Chinese, and telling me he couldnt understand me. DoorDash was nice enough to REORDER my food and just as suspected instead of making fresh food for the new order they were getting paid for, Evergreen sent out the same order that was supposed to be delivered to me almost an hour earlier.!! I ordered take out this evening for myself and my husband and we were both severely disappointed in our food choices. I had the Kung Pao chicken and my husband had the Seafood Delight. The seafood delight was terrible and my husband (who eats MRE's voluntarily) had to throw it out. It wasn't so much seafood as it was fake, gelatinous, smelly seafood substitute in a snot like sauce mixed with vegetables. It smelled horrible. My Kung pao was edible at least, but it was lacking in chicken and most of it was every day household vegetables- carrots, celery and green pepper. We tried the egg rolls and they just tasted like cabbage and were terribly soggy. We were astounded that even the fortune cookies were stale. This is the kind of place that stays in business only because of lack of alternatives. If a proper Chinese/Thai restaurant opened in Inwood, this place would vanish overnight. The fried rice is greasy and saturated in oil, the General Tso's are swimming in a corn syrup sauce with over-breaded and soggy chicken chunks. After not having Evergreen's food for probably 6-7 years, I decided to give them a try today for lunch. I was pleasantly surprised! All the recent reviews say it's gone downhill, but my lunch was as good as I remember it being. I ordered the Sesame Chicken lunch special with fried rice and an extra side of white rice. It was fresh and yummy, no complaints from me. The portion was a little smaller than I remember, but being lunch it really didn't bother me and I wasn't able to finish it all anyway. Regardless of the negative reviews of this place, the food is always hot, fresh and flavorful. I have been a customer of Evergreen since my move to Inwood from Baltimore in 2010 ( live within walking distance) . Quality has been consistent in all those years. Anyone having an issue with the communication barrier get over yourself, they have the same issue with you. Evergreen compares in quality, if not better to some of the better Asian carry outs in the Baltimore / Anne Arundel county spots. read more

Used to order from Evergreen a couple times a month. But haven't been back in quite a while. Last time we were there I ordered a vegetable diner combo with extra corn. My daughter loves "Chinese corn" so I thought be ordering extra corn I'd get extra corn...nope! Only got about 6 to 8 baby ears and rest was filled with broccoli and carrots. My wife ordered the pepper steak combo which was cold and the beef was red in the middle. We enjoy our steaks medium rare but not our Chinese food. It made me a little concerned about my Kung Pow Chicken, but it was OK. We now order takeout from Jin Zhou in Winchester, VA. read more

Wow have they gone downhill! I have ordered takeout from here in the past and been very pleased. With Chinese takeout, really it just needs to be accurate and hot/fresh. Not too hard, right? Apparently it's a chore for them lately. I ordered Hunan tofu, sweet and sour chicken and crab Rangoons. We got there in the time we were supposed to, had to wait about 10 minutes. I guess I can get over that since at least my good will be nice and hot. I get to the car, check my bag, no crab Rangoon. I go back in and they seem frustrated with me, check my bag and see it's not there, of course then they're all smiles and say I have to wait longer. So then a 5 minute extra wait to get crab rangoons that are the most pathetic ones I've ever seen. Barely anything in them. They may as well just fry wonton wrappers. I get home and I don't have Hunan tofu, I have General Tso tofu. Which is very annoying but again, I can look past it.
