So, after asking friends and everyone I met about what they did and who they used, we found out about Arcadia Gardens Retirement Hotel. I was really happy with the care my mom got there. With their help, she recovered from the first stroke and was able to get around and feed herself. Over time, she had another stroke, a heart attack, and eventually had memory loss, spending her last years in memory care. I want to say that not only did my mom get wonderful care, but they also cared about me! They made sure I understood what my mom needed. They went over her meds, always explaining what she was taking, and talked about diapers, what brands worked best for her, wheelchairs, mattresses for the hospital bed, and so on. I will say I went several times each week to check on things - it's teamwork, and with Arcadia Gardens on my team, my mom had a good life right up until the end. Thank you Flor and her staff in memory lane.

A big thanks also to Gohard, Yvonne, Lisa, and the front desk ladies -- along with the rest of the team we enjoy seeing each visit. Of course, every facility has its ups and downs -- no place is perfect -- but this one is definitely among the better ones. Julie actually listens to our concerns and needs, and the kitchen staff is very accommodating with anything our mother needs. While the call light response time could be a little quicker at times, we understand how busy the caregivers are. Overall, we are truly grateful. My mother is safe and cared for here, and that means everything. Thank you all!

It was very important for us to find a place that felt like home for our mom. Nikkiann & Beatrice helped make the transition from home to the facility comfortable for both our family and our mom. They always had a smile on their face and for the first month would report to us regularly on a weekly basis on how our mom was doing. This brought us peace of mind and made us feel we made the right decision. Sharon and the caregivers were highly qualified to care for patients with different needs like our mom who had dementia, Parkinson's, diabetes and history of TIAs. We are so grateful for their unconditional care and love they showed to our mom and the whole family. Our family highly recommends Henrietta's Leven Oaks! They earned 5 stars and beyond for their quality service, beautiful historic building, and amazing staff. Thank you so much for caring for our precious mother.

It has a beautiful garden in the back. It's very clean but not all plush and fancy. However being in the health care field to me that indicates more funds are going into quality care providers. When Mom's health recently declined, BD staff nurse visited Mom in the hospital, and assessed Mom to determine if she could continue living there. The cost wasn't an issue. We just wanted Mom to be in safe place that could provide the care she needs. Three MD's had previously determined and documented that Mom needed to be in skilled nursing home or private board and care home. However, the BD staff nurse determined that BD could provide sufficient additional services including on-call aides to facilitate toileting, transferring, dressing and eating for additional fees amounting to additional 60% each month. This decision / assessment was supported by the exec director. We did not want to relocate Mom if BD could live up to their commitment to provide the on-call services, as BD was 'home' for Mom. BD proved to me on multiple occasions that they could not provide the level of care Mom needed at this stage in her life. In just one example, I personally pressed the call-button for assistance to move Mom to the commode in her bedroom. And after waiting 30 minutes, I telephoned the desk to escalate the request for assistance. We waited another 10 minutes for aides to arrive. Imagine waiting 40 minutes to urinate after you have sounded the alarm, and picture how upset you would be. Now, imagine that you are 93 years old and you can't get out of bed to move to a toilet that is a couple of feet away from you. Imagine your hysteria, and multiply that by dementia. This is where the story goes from unforgettable to unforgivable. Our family determined that BD was no longer a suitable place for Mom to live. Telling Mom was heartbreaking. We asked BD exec staff to support our family decision to relocate Mom. Instead, the nurse and exec director contradicted what we had told her and in conversation with her while I was personally present, they held to their opinion that they could care for her. This made the transition many times worse than it would have been if they had supported us. Mom loved the day-to-day staff at BD. She especially loved Gail at the main desk. Mom never in 3 years had a positive word to say about the food, and Mom is not a picky eater. In the years that Mom lived there, I found every regular employee to be friendly, kind and polite.
