I wrote to Evergreen's billing department this: I recently received a bill for $361.63 for an ER visit. My insurance covered $2,632.93 for it. That seems like fair compensartion for a 90-minute visit. Given that I'm retired and on a fixed income, is there any way that Evergreen can forgive the balance? Guess what they said: No. They offered a payment plan. Isn't over $2600 enough for a quick visit? This is what is wrong with our healthcare system. Sheer greed. When I arrived, the desk lady was most cordial and helpful and while I was talking to her a gent came up and assured me they would get to me as soon as a room opened. Not sure if it was my age (78) or what but that was nice. I waited about 15 min and was in to a room where a young lady did all the normal. The doctor was exceptionally thorough and concerned with my condition. We discussed and settled on next steps. I was really impressed with the doctor's care and I've had plenty of experience on the patient side of the practice of medicine. Wish she was my primary.

When you are required to have a primary care physician you expect to develop a relationship with that caregiver and seek them out, specifically, for your medical needs. My first visit took weeks to get. Swollen legs, ankles numbness and a concern about deep vein thrombosis and it was still weeks. My care was great and loved the care provider. But every time I have had an acute situation since, the soonest they will schedule is 3 weeks out. When I complain they tell me to go to urgent care or the ER. NO!!! I have a specific care provider and insurance for a reason. I expect a day to 3 days wait, but if you ever need to be seen quickly, there quickly is a minimum of 9-10 days. Expect to use your local ER and pay that bill. This is terrible care IMO. So sick of this healthcare system. Might add that I am paying $1300 a month for this insurance. Super annoyed. Quit booking these doctors so tightly that there's no room for acute patients. There are plenty of people that need to be seen sooner. And want to see their own doctor, not a new stranger.

But there was no space on the paperwork that asked about my prior medical issues (2 strokes, 2 TIA's and 1 heart attack), and current state of health. And no insurance questions were asked for coverage, or i.d. info, or plan. I arrived early and asked the receptionist about the lack of insurance questions, and no medical history records needed. She said that the clinic does not take insurance, and does not work with insurance companies. And that all costs are paid for out of my own pocket. But I know that they do blood work, and that can get very expensive, and time with a medical doctor can be hundreds of dollars per hour. I wish I had known, and maybe I missed it on the website, but be forewarned. They expect you to pay out of pocket even if you have excellent insurance coverage.
