I do not have any health conditions that would discourage LAL lenses. My brain is as healthy and efficient as people who are much younger. I have been unable to adjust to the dual focus that is part of the LAL concept. One eye for distance, the other for close up. My eyes got tired, dry and irritated when driving, as I was only using one eye. I had the same experience with close up vision, reading, watching TV etc. My vision blurred. I've learned it is not uncommon for the brain to have difficulty making that adjustment. As a result, I experienced dizziness and my brain was unable to efficiently "track" what I was seeing. Since the surgery my eyes are extremely dry. It took over a year for the burnt, bruised feeling and floaters to resolve. Fortunately I have an excellent optical physician who was able to correct my vision with progressive lens glasses. My experience with LAL was similar to many of the patients I spoke with while in Dr. Patels waiting room. I did all of the research, asked all of the right questions but feel some of the cons were omitted from the conversation. I am not questioning Dr. Patels skills as a physician or his ethics. He willingly postponed it when we were apprehensive in March when the COVID-19 virus had so much uncertainty. Now he scheduled me and my right eye was a breeze. The operating room staff was friendly and put me at ease. Post operative was simple and I was out of the office in an hour. When I was concerned about a post operative question, he replied promptly. I would highly recommend him. All of the staff are well trained and polite and professional. Next week I am scheduled for my left eye cataract surgery!

As I had chosen the Light Adjustable Lenses (LAL) option, I needed to go into the office multiple times before the final lock in my prescription (as expected). Because of that, I interacted with multiple departments and multiple staff members over the course of several months. Throughout the process, I was treated with respect and dignity. Dec. 9, 2020 - I called prior to my appointment to ask about their protocols during the height of…read morethe pandemic and was told, "We are following the CDC guidelines." I was concerned when I arrived and saw two techs wearing face shields, but no masks. The technician who performed my intake was wearing such a shield without masks. When I asked her about it, she said she was getting over pneumonia and was having trouble breathing with a mask on. I became doubly concerned at this point, since I am in a very high risk category. QUOTE FROM CDC WEBSITE: "CDC does not recommend using face shields or goggles as a substitute for masks. Face shields and goggles are primarily used to protect the eyes of the person wearing it. Face shields have large gaps below and alongside the face, where your respiratory droplets may escape and reach others around you." Dr. Geissler entered the room (50 minutes late - even though I was supposed to be the first appt. of the morning) and was wearing a mask. He was speaking to me throughout the exam while in very close proximity. At one point, I noticed that his mask was not covering his nose and I brought it to his attention. He said that he does that purposely because his glasses fog up when he wears the mask over his nose! This is not in compliance with CDC guidelines. THE CDC GUIDELINES STATE: * Wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 * Wear a mask in public settings when around people who don't live in your household, especially when it may be difficult for you to stay six feet apart. * Wear a mask correctly for maximum protection. I suggested that he try using a thin piece of hypoallergenic surgical tape across the top of the mask under the eyes & over the bridge of the nose. This is what I did for my appointment, so that I could be examined without fogging my glasses or their equipment. He responded that he's sensitive to tape and can't use it. My husband told me on the way home, "I'll put that on your tombstone: At Least His Glasses Didn't Fog Up."

The waits are long, but it's not a deal breaker. Until Today. I asked for my son who is 13 in 4 weeks to get contacts fitted for sports. The tech who meet with him said "no". because she didn't believe he was old enough, because her kids didn't get them till later. Trying to ask if this was an office policy or just her opinion, we didn't get an answer. I called back twice to get an answer on the office policy (because I didn't want to leave practice, but I need contacts), and finally got call back from the doctor, as I left him a voice mail and said I really needed to get contacts, and needed to understand his policy and if this something he looked at case by case or was a categorical no. He called me back and said categorically no, he wasn't in favor of kids with contacts until 14. I said this was fine, but had a question, and he cut me off like he wasn't interested in explaining himself and I could find a new doctor or clinic if I didn't agree with him or wanted to try even understanding his opinion. He wasn't trying to be rude, but he competely was. The insinuation that people who want to try their kids in contacts are irresponsible and uninformed came across clearly. He's a good doctor I'm sure, but trying to talk or even ask a question didn't seem like it was encouraged at all. If you just need routine check ups and prescriptions, this is a fine place to go. But if you have anything that would considered out of normal scope, I guess it's problematic for them. For the record, I found another opthamologist who said this wasn't a problem very quickly. My feedback is mixed, but I'm disappointed that a conversation that seemed simple enough came across so contentious and one sided. I understand doctors are the informed service provider, but patient health and decisions like this should be a discussed, informed choice. This was not the case here.

We went to two different ERs, and they just gave him migraine cocktails and hoped for the best. Dr. Nelson did an extensive retinal exam due to the floaters, and other symptoms. He was the only one that gave us possibilities of what it could be. He referred us to rheumatology and to get bloodwork done. He was the only one to ever give us any sort of answer! I was told I'm too young to need reading glasses but too old to be diagnosed with a different vision disorder because it's "usually" diagnosed in childhood. He was acknowledging that there is something wrong but then said I'm fine. My primary doctor believes I have a vision problem (the whole point of the referral) but because i didn't have access for proper exams as a kid, I was dismissed. I told him I avoid driving because my eyes can't focus, that I wear prescription reading glasses, prescription sunglasses I wear in stores, and prescription polarized sunglasses, because I'm extremely light sensitive. After I explained my symptoms in more detail, he agreed to write me a referral to a pediatrician. When the staff called to schedule my appointment they confirmed they were testing for what the referral said and my intake form had it written clearly on the top of the first page. During the appointment he suggested I try eye drops and offered to give me a different eye prescriptions, despite me telling him I'm already being treated for dry eyes and just got a new eye prescription three months ago.

I chose Dr. Bright because I liked her name, which is a stupid reason to pick a doctor but researching doctors is hard so there we are. First, she's young- this was the first time I've had a doctor about my age- and it was AWESOME. From my cyst removal to my labs to my physical Dr. Bright was incredibly professional, kind, and just knew her stuff. She's also a great listener. When I say she's a great listener I don't mean "for a doctor" (a miracle in itself) but as a person. If you're looking for a great person to be your doctor who knows her stuff, is kind, and listens to what you need look no further. As for her staff they were all kind, professional, and respectful. I've been in three times so far and encountered 5 different folks that helped with scheduling, medical assistant, etc and they were all great. I especially liked Latanza.
