I had a horrible experience during all three visits to Dr. Cocke.* As soon as I walked in, I was quietly warned by an uneasy looking woman who worked there that their receptionist had recently and unexpectedly died. I think she was trying to buffer me for what I was about to experience. A loss like that is tragic, but it is not, however, a license to be a raging jerk. He acted rudely every time I was there. It was a long time ago but I remember him answering questions curtly, sighing loudly in irritation when it took me a sec to gather my coat and purse and follow him to a different room, just making me feel like an irritation, not a customer (maybe it's because I was on Amerigroup?). At one point, I used the restroom and it was out of paper towels, so as I came out I casually let him know. "Well, I don't know what you want expect me to do about that! You're gonna have to wait until after five to see that get done!" he snapped. The tone was offensive and unnecessary. By the time I left I got to my car and cried. I felt stupid for letting it get to me that much, but I was nothing but nice to him, and I cry when I am hurt and angry. When I returned to pick up my glasses, they rushed me and, even though my ears are a bit uneven so glasses are always somewhat skewed, they told me they were fine and sent me on my way without adjusting them the way every other eye doctor I've seen in 40 years has. I will never go back. In fact, I spent some time writing a scathing letter directly to him, but opted not to send it and escalate him, mostly for the sake of his staff. Suffice it to say, I tried to hold grace for someone in his unfortunate position, but that really doesn't excuse that sort of behavior. *The one caveat I will give is that it has been quite a long time since this happened. I started this review shortly afterward, and happened to see Yelp's email reminder to finish it well over a year later. But know the kind of man you are dealing with here. I, personally, don't want to support any man who would behave this way, ever. read more

Dr Cocke is exceptional at his craft. I have seen him for years and he is always willing to try different approaches for nearsightedness and with glasses over contacts that I truly appreciate! He is kind and funny and might not be everyone's cup of tea but I wouldn't go anywhere else! The staff has always been very helpful in working with my insurance and also in ordering glasses with other vendors. Great, simple office which keeps costs down! I don't know who is getting incentives to write these reviews, but Dr. Cocke is the rudest and most impatient "doctor" I have ever met. Extremely dismissive and unwilling to listen. I've been here on 3 different occasions and found them to be very capable, friendly and helpful each time. Dr. Cocke explains what he's doing step by step and answers my questions. I used to go to this clinic when I was a teen and always liked the doctor and staff. I took my daughter there recently and the exam went well. But she had to sit in a mask the whole time. The doctor is wearing a N95 and has plexiglass between him and his patient and still she had to wear a mask. Another issue I had is you have to wait outside until someone lets you in. It's cold and rainy and no one else is in the clinic, yet they don't let anyone in the chairs in the lobby. My biggest complaint is that when we went to pick up the glasses, they just gave my daughter her glasses to her outside. Didn't even let us inside the clinic.... Asked her to put them on and that was it. The glasses are huge on her and fall off the face. They're supposed to adjust them. I'm never going back. I'd rather pay a little more and get treated like humans. read more

I went to Eyes Rite because my vision insurance wouldn't cover Lens Crafters or Pearl, and Eyes Rite had a Saturday appointment available. I needed an exam for glasses and to start glaucoma care since I'd been diagnosed recently. And I was impressed! This isn't the greatest part of Tacoma, but the office is new and very clean and in a new office complex. The doctor greeted me and was very friendly and got me started on the paperwork while he helped others. He was very busy, but very nice and patient and professional. The woman at the desk was just as nice and professional, and she handled the ordering of my frames and lenses perfectly, explaining the insurance and my costs, etc. Very clear and friendly. The eye exam was thorough. Dr. Cocke took his time and explained everything and was friendly. Apparently, he spends time helping the poor here and abroad and his sense of generosity and caring is remarkable. He's very "down to earth" and accessible and just a really nice person. The selection of frames is about what you expect from a smaller office, however the prices are VERY reasonable, even on the fancier brands they carry: Guess, Eddie Bauer, Harley Davidson, etc. I found a frame by Eddie Bauer and got the polycarb lenses with progressive bifocals, and anti-reflective coating for under $200 with my less-than-stellar insurance. Wow. (My last pair of glasses cost me over $1000 in San Francisco.) I've been to some fancy schmancy optometrists and some hoity-toity opticians, but Eyes Rite beats them all in terms of friendliness, professionalism, and price. read more

Rude staff, lied about performing a full exam, provided faulty glasses... The doctor rushed us through the exam that should have included the glaucoma test then sent us to a cubicle and rushed us through the rest of the process. Once the glasses finally arrived, they did not sit us down and do any adjustments to make sure they fit properly. The frames were already faulty which was confirmed by another Optical Office. Called to get routine information on services and coverage limits. Was told by "Debbie", that she / they could not "give me any idea" until I knew my specific insurance company and "other information". I then gave her my specific Policy Number and tier of service by my provider. She then said "Look, I told you before, we can't give you any idea until you come in for an appointment and send in your claim. This is not how Insurance works, it is not how Optometry Clinics work, nor Dentists or any other type of medical service. What Debbie was doing was trying to get me off the phone on a Friday afternoon., She exercised Customer Avoidance, rather than Customer Service. Because I was not able to learn of the scope of my coverage, deductibles (or any other information), I can not attest to the actual Care this clinic provides - but I can say that if you DO desire care here, call and ask for somebody (anybody) other than DEBBIE first. read more

my son has been going to the eye doctors and wearing glasses since he was 5 years old ... he was seeing a peds doctor for many years ... We previously we went here to fill a prescription for his glasses ... he needed an eye exam so we went back to eyes rite eyecare... Dr.Cocke' was wonderful and very thorough with the exam which made me very happy since my son has terrible eye site ... Very rude. Not a lot of selection on dshs approved glasses. Tried to take pic (without my flash on) of my sons first eye appt and the funny glasses they use for his memory book...and instead the eye dr stopped and yelled at me that cameras were not allowed and i DO NOT HAVE HIS PERMISSION to photo him...ugh i didnt (i thought to myself) it was only of my sons face and he was nowhere in the photo...long story...its not a cool place i just deal with it...but it truely is not pleasent everytime. read more

Called and scheduled an appoint easily. Was taken to the back for my exam in a timely manner. The MD was very kind and professional. The staff were respectful and not pushy like my last optometrist's office staff seemed to be my last visit. Loved the selection of affordable glasses which were reasonably priced. Dr. Cocke (Ko-kay) possesses an obvious desire to help people. I respect him becoming bilingual to aid this process and for setting a standard for being a giver not a taker. He doesn't ask for a lot of your time either. I appreciate how he goes about his business in a manner that serves my schedule. With a swish, swish he's done. Notwithstanding he doesn't scrimp on answering patient's questions, etc. At 85% astigmatism and one eye much worse than the other, I am beyond what is considered legally blind apart from glasses. Yet I'm picky about my corrected vision. Dr. Cocke's exacting precision has always induced my aging eyes to see without blurriness once again. I give Marilyn tremendous credit for her restorative abilities as well. She has done her magic for me many times, disappearing with bent glasses & returning me a fully functional frame. How important a service she provides! Your discomfort and fretting will be gone, voila ~ Eyes Rite staff cater to people like guests. Step into their quiet haven and observe their working harmony. Relax and enjoy a respite away from it all. It's common nowadays to feel you "can't get no satisfaction," but satisfaction is what Dr. Cocke and staff provide daily.
