Normally, we would Rate Evergreen Dairy Bar ten stars, if we Could. The coffee is Great, the people are super nice and attentive, but since the end of the summer of 2021, something has changed. Sadly, not for the better. The seasoned staff and servers, like the Super tall guy and his Son and Of Course, Chance, he is our Favorite Server there. The new servers walk around mostly oblivious or at least the ones we have had fail to check in or refill drinks. It's frustrating when you come for the Delicious coffee!! But only get 1-2 cups. I'm just appalled that I was told that the new people are "Trained" and yet we received awful service. I was also told how kind and sweet the servers are. Well, I'm glad they're kind and sweet, but if that was my only quality, I would be fired long ago, to my understanding, if I am hired, I'm hired to complete work. Being kind and sweet is a great attribute but I'm being Paid to complete work. Clearly, they're not or maybe they forgot their training. This is my absolute favorite local breakfast spot to eat at. The establishment is always so clean and the staff are great! Today I tried the Deluxe Bacon Cheeseburger with Lettuce,Tomato,Onion,and Bacon. If you get the Deluxe it comes with crispy French fries and coleslaw. I asked for medium well but it came out well done. It was good. A little dry but I ate it all so I can't complain. I also wanted to try their chili hotdog. I have to say I was disappointed in the "chili" they used. Chili is supposed to enhance this dish but I feel it made it taste not so good. I make a killer chili if you want to use my recipe I'd be glad to give it to you. As always I have to be honest when doing these reviews. My opinions are just that. My family and I stopped in for breakfast and had a bit of a mixed experience. The service was exceptional--everyone was warm, inviting, and very helpful. I wish I remembered our waitress's name because she absolutely deserves recognition. Unfortunately, the overall atmosphere felt a little uncomfortable, almost unwelcoming from other patrons, which took away from the experience. As for the food, it was hit or miss. My husband ordered a simple breakfast of over-easy eggs, bacon, and home fries, which he said was fine--hard to go wrong with the basics. Our kids had a muffin, pancake, applesauce, bacon, and fruit, which met expectations. I ordered the Western omelette with American cheese and white bread, and it was disappointing. The eggs were overcooked and came out more like a scrambled mix than a proper omelette, with large chunks of peppers and onions throughout. The home fries were completely lacking flavor--we had to add quite a bit of salt and rely on hot sauce and ketchup to make them enjoyable. The bacon was also overcooked to the point of being burnt rather than crispy. Overall, while the service stood out in a great way, the food didn't quite match up. I sat at the counter during a busy week day lunch. I'm shocked how busy it was for a random Monday. Service was friendly, quick, and straightforward. I didn't know the menu so needed a few extra minutes. I ordered a patty melt with turkey instead of beef. You can substitute turkey for any of the burgers listed. It was a frozen patty but not bad. I really enjoyed the sandwich. It had the perfect amount of caramelized onions. It was crispy and the rye was fresh. It was a well balanced sandwich. The sandwich came with a tiny cup of coleslaw, which wasn't bad, and a bag of chips. I'm not a potato chip person so didn't eat them but I didn't want to order a huge side of fries for myself. We passed by several times on our way back from dinner with our daughter, so one night we stopped by for ice cream. From the start, we were amazed at the size and quality of the treats they provided. We were also curious when we peered into the restaurant/diner which, only offering breakfast and lunch, was closed. Established in the 1940's, it still held that old style charm we could remember from when we were kids. Now that we have moved nearby, we ventured in to see if they were as good as they looked. NOPE, They're BETTER. Since that first visit, we've gone in many times and have tried many of the offerings on the menu. Long time customer. Ordered a tuna sandwich for $9.50. Didn't want the larger hoagie for $11.50 Waitress asked me if I wanted Lettuce-Tomato-Onion. I said yes. She brought me the bill. The L-T-O cost me an extra $3.00. ($1-$1-$1) Sandwich was $12.50 total and was half the size of the hoagie which COMES WITH L-T-O. Very disappointed. I asked is there was some sort of mistake. Nope. Evergreen happened to be our saving grace with food and Wi-Fi at 10:10am. My partner and I have always wondered why this place had so many cars, so we were actually excited to try this place. You come in and it's like you're walking into the past - Evergreen was established in 1949 and you definitely get the 50's vibe from just the set up and ambiance. The servers are so kind and friendly, and though the prices aren't from 1949, I would say it's all super affordable and friendly on the wallet. Celiac/Gluten intolerant friends: No gluten free options in terms of bread, but I'd say stick to meats, eggs, and home fries - there is no flour added in. I got 1 scrambled egg with a side of home fries and pork roll. Asked for hot sauce and they have Tabasco, Red Hot, and Chalula. Food was delicious, as was their coffee (good coffee is always a pleasant surprise going into a diner) Though it was still "breakfast time" I heard orders around me from the lunch menu which was cool. AND you're allowed to order ice cream during breakfast time too - how cool!! I kid you not when I say this is the best soft serve ever and I'm the biggest ice cream lover I know. The consistency is almost as thick as a custard, but not too much that it loses its title as "soft serve ice cream" They also had hard ice cream options from Hershey's. Their soft serve options on 3/18/22 were vanilla, chocolate, orange sherbert, and pineapple dole-whip. Analysis paralysis led me to choose vanilla, but no regrets. I added it to our coffee for a delicious DIY affogato. If ever chance strikes again that I'm in the area on the way back to Washington DC from NJ, this diner is a non-negotiable. This place is your nostalgic place. This is drive up roll in and roll out restaurant. The service is excellent and the food is good not great but good. With the prices they offer and the amount of food you get is well worth to stop in and grab a bite to eat. The interior is like that of the 50-60s time and you know this is a hot spot for the locals. BIG mistake Sausages were pink inside and appeared gelatenous.The waffles were crusted with large chunks of sugar and were extremely tough, I'm talking steak knife tough Needless to say they were not consumed and when I approached the girl at the register she explained that these were cake waffles (not noted on menu) and they came frozen and were microwaved. This is one of your classic road side ice cream stops that seem to magnetically pull cars in from the road. Their magic sure worked on me because as I drove in this desolate New Jersey roadway there isn't much until you see THE DAIRY BAR. So, as someone who really enjoys his ice cream I figured DAIRY BAR = GOOD ICE CREAM. Well ... I was wrong the assumption was off base not that people weren't happy to eat overpriced soft ice cream that probably came from a powdered mix however I like the real thing ... ICE CREAM. Ice cream from a wholesale outfit (Hershey's in this case) is not what I want from a "local ice cream" bar. And, service was rather ... curt. You know what that means ... I was an after thought to the youngster filling coins and taking money and moving onto the next in line. I will say that there is a sense of nostalgia to this place even though I don't know its history. Perhaps a historical brochure or poster ... perhaps the story of how they make their ice cream and how many people they have served. But, as I pulled back on the highway the flavor that resonated was the cakey taste of the cone and you never want that when you stopped for ice cream. read more

It's been years since I've been to Evergreen for breakfast but we LOVE stopping here for ice cream on the way home from the beach. The soft serve is great. I did have my first ever omelette at evergreen over probably over 20 years ago and more recently I had eggs over easy with rye toast. I absolutely love coming here - equal parts nostalgia and breaking my diet. The french toast was fresh and light as a pillow with delicious whipped cream on top (ask for it). My man got a cone of fresh soft serve with chocolate "jimmies" (sprinkles). Love it here! read more

Moving to the area and stopped in for lunch while house hunting. We fell in love!! Food was great!! Service was amazing!! Eleanore was our server and made us feel super welcome.
