I took my 88 yr old Aunt & Uncle (from CA) to Evergreen Cemetery to visit their Mom & Dads grave. They hadn't been back there for 26 yrs. The headstone had sunk down & while we were trying to clean the stone we waved down a young gentleman by the name of Steve to ask what we needed to do to get the stone raised. Steve left for a few minutes & came back with the materials he needed & raised & cleaned the headstone right then & there. My Aunt & Uncle may never get back to visit again but they left with peace in their hearts knowing their folks headstone will never sink again (totally reinforced now) and can be found by all the future generations of family. If you are looking for dignity and respect this isn't the place. Once they get your money that dignity is out the window. My parents purchased 3 plots in 2007 and they lied to them about the location. Another lie was told to my parent, my sibling, and me in 2014. After I buried my father in 2022 and tried to inquire about the third plot two weeks later it became a problem, wrong paperwork, no return phones, etc. I have been trying to have this issue resolved for 5 months. Even the office manager is a joke! Why wasn't my 85-year-old godmother told in 2019 that she could get a headstone for my godfather from veteran affairs? Reason-the could charge her more money for the headstone. SMH (Dignity-not) He was buried in the veteran part of the cemetery-they knew. I was angry when I saw his headstone. Zero stars -- I've been trying to get my mom's date of death added to her headstone for almost 6 months. I paid them $849.50 for a small piece of bronze that gets affixed to the granite stone. When I called in October 2023, I was told it would be done the next week. My call in December 2023 was never returned--left message with "new" employee who knew nothing. I was supposed to get a return call from Mike on 2/13/24 when the "marker person" got in to work at 1:30 pm. Never heard back. Called and left message 2/14/24, no response. Called 2/15/24 and Mike could not give me any estimate of when the item that was ordered on 8/30/23 would be received! He said he'll call me tomorrow -- I doubt I'll hear back. zero stars.......evergreen cemetery on 87th & kedzie have the stupidest employees on earth. i have been waiting for a tombstone for the past 14 months. every time i call it's some excuse that is not their fault. they keep pushing it back and when you call back, they push it further. once it came in, it was wrong. i expected them to complete it very quickly but we are now going on 7 more months. the best part is they don't expect you to be upset. i called today and they put me on hold for 7 minutes, i hung up and called again and they put me on hold again, i hung up and called again and that's when i heard someone say take a message or tell her i am not here. what kind of person are you? these are our loved ones and you don't care. you were paid in full and i should not have to chase you to get what i paid for. the tombstone should have been complete a long time ago. read more

This cemetery has really went down! The upkeep of grave yard is horrible!!! My entire family is buried out there! And believe me we paid a hefty payment for each burial and headstone grass is overgrown... I'm visiting my family at least twice a month! And i literally have to pull up weeds and grass ... just to view love one's name! Ridiculous!!! Nice cemetery but unfortunately as a cemetery enthusiast's just seems so easy to overlook due to just being to "sterile" if I may for lack of a better word. The reason I say that is because most of the grave markers are "floor level" and they do not have what I look for as a cemetery enthusiast and genealogy person. They have no statues of course, but the place is spacious. Not in the grand sense (I mean they certainly aren't like Graceland on the North Side), but the cemetery boast some beautiful scenery, well sort of. Its right off the street and some of the flat markers can be hard to spot if your looking for loved ones whom you haven 't visited in quite a while, but seriously, its just a very basic cemetery. No flashy Obelisk, no stunning statuary, just plain floor model markers. read more

I wish there was YELP when my mother passed away. It's hard enough to be an informed consumer when one isn't grieving. Being the number one son, and almost all extended kin on the other side of the world, I had to make some tough decisions on behalf of my stunned immediate family while just barely technically adult but really too young to be taking charge of funeral arrangements. We were completely unprepared, and trying to practice ancient but alien traditions far away from where our customs would be recognizable. The funeral home took advantage of us but not the Evergreen Cemetery. The staff did their best to try to understand and respect Japanese Buddhism, long before diversity was considered by any Americans to be a desirable thing. They advised us well, we bought enough plots for the whole family and future spouses, which turned out to be a smart and practical investment, they were nice and trustworthy when I really needed them to be both. That was over thirty years ago, so I'm giving you some dated information, but of course it left a strong impression on me. I still regularly visit, but I have little need to talk to anyone working here. A few years ago, my father became concerned because he couldn't find the deed to our plots, but he said that the woman he talked to reassured him that all was in order. The place is well maintained, with a nice balance of trees and bushes, it is peaceful and tasteful. If there was Yelp back in the 1980s, I would have rated Evergreen a full five stars, but what's happened since then is that they've sold off the surrounding property and now the grounds are surrounded by ugly suburban strip malls. You can't tell when you're inside the gates, but it's jarring and unpleasant approaching the park. read more

While on property, we were assisted by Mrs Aris Simpson.Mrs Simpson did everything possible to make our visit successful and meaningful. She engaged one of the groundskeepers, Jason, to accompany us to the specific gravesites where Jason helped us examine the four headstone's and answered our questions about Maintainance and perpetual car.Jason was also very helpful. Mrs Simpson also pulled up original purchase and maintainance documents and work orders as well as make requested copies of document. Moreover, Mrs Simpson helped what would normally be a stressful and emotional visit feel very comforting and comfortable. We are sincerely grateful for her caring and sharing demeanor! Last week we finally made good on my 82 year old mother's request to tour her old neighborhood and family plots in and around Cicero. Shame on me for not getting the name of the super friendly and helpful woman at the front desk; based on the review written 07/17, I am going to guess that it was Mrs. Simpson! She was so nice ... and efficient in getting us the plot information for my Mom's father who passed in 1951. I arrived early and was waiting for the rest of our family in a separate car and I overheard her say to someone else in the office that she was thinking about a woman who came in yesterday and was grieving so much; she was going to call the woman today and make sure that she is okay. Isn't that amazing? She then called Jason and asked him to help us find our memorial - he was also very nice and answered our silly questions with patience (no, he's not seen a ghost in the 20+ years he has worked there!) read more

I did NOT have a good expierience with the woman that my family dealt with through this cemetery at all! Just this month, My grandmother passed away and we were having the wake on a Tuesday and the Burial on Wednesday. Now I understand there is paper work that needs to be done for funerals and burials and all of that but the woman who was taking care of the arrangements was very harsh and unwelcoming. She would call our home on the day of the wake saying someone had to come sign the papers ( in a very condescending tone) we told her that someone would be there and that we were trying to get things ready for the wake. She called again maybe 2 hours later again very cold and harsh saying "I Need someone over here to sign these papers. It doesn't take long, someone needs to get here" The day of the burial came and as we proceeded from the Funeral Home to Evergreen Cemetery we got a surprise. It was 10 degrees outside and we were brought to the burial site NOT the chapel. My family who came ( who are mostly over the age of 65) had to walk through the snow, sit in the freezing cold while my passed grandmother lay in the cold. My family was furious! We found out AFTER that it was an extra $750 just to have it in the chapel which we were NEVER given the option. The woman who was taking care of the arrangements showed up at the burial site and my father asked her why we were not in the Chapel. She said because you never said you wanted the chapel. My father told her that she was the one who was directing this and that we should have been given the option. She said well why didn't you call me I could have figured something out. Needless to say she was still of no help, my family had to mourn the loss of our family member for 10 minutes out in the 10 degree weather because no one was prepared to stand in the cold and she didn't have the common sense or decency to offer the option of a chapel for our family. Ugh so disgusted and disappointed. Easter Sunday and the mausoleum where my mother and father in law are interred is closed . Today they closed the mausoleum at 4:00 after church and dinner my husband and I just wanted a few minutes with his parents. The hours here are inconsiderate to family's. They've always been. However today Evergreen Cemetery has reached a new low. The grounds around the mausoleum are FILTHY, there is so much trash strewn around I can't believe they didn't even TRY to hide their poor care and maintenance on Easter. So now I know the management there aren't geniuses either. The doors are weathered and in need of paint, the stained glass are so filthy you can't tell if it's stained glass or just some weathered panels up there. The cement building itself is disgraceful, they should have had that cleaned years ago! Very honestly and sincerely I ask that before you inter your beloved here, take a drive around to the neglected and sorely disrespected areas in the cemetery. I have attached pictures. read more

Staff appears to be friendly but put a bad taste in our mouth when they tried overcharging us. This is the second family member we buried there in the last three years and the price for plot/service was $2000 more compared to 3 years ago. I expected price to be slightly more but $2000 more is ridiculous. We had to negotiate back and forth. There was also a mixup with paperwork and they called several times asking for signature . This entire process was more uncomfortable than buying a used car. I'd rather get a root canal without novacaine than do business with Evergreen cemetery again. Cemeteries need to be regulated more and should have fixed prices. Makes me think how many families they took advantage of during an emotional time. read more

My sister and I were doing research on our great grandparents and learned that they were buried here. We talked to a helpful staff and were excited to have the chance to visit Chicago to visit our ancestors. I understand that this cemetery is not a beautiful garden for rich people. 150 years ago when our great great grandfather was buried here, it was probably a bucolic humble pasture. And it still has that feel. After getting a platt and directions to our relatives' graves, and getting a bit disoriented, an extremely helpful and courteous groundskeeper (Jason?) came to our rescue and guided us to the right graves. Much to our excitement, we found a total of seven simple headstones of relatives, most of whom we didn't know we had! Our host went for a shovel and chopped away the grass that was partially covering some of plaques. He seemed as happy as we were to make these discoveries! We will be back, reassured that the headstones will be raised above the grass line. And we will know just where to go. read more

After losing my father over the weekend, my family and I met with Karmalita who is an employee of Dignity (Evergreen Cemetery) located 3401 W 87th St, Evergreen Park, IL 60805. She was inarticulate, ignorant, rude, offensive, and treated us in a manner antithetical to the name (Dignity). When we asked to speak to her manager several times because she clearly lacked the skills to assist us during a painful time of sorrow in which we were attempting to make final arrangements for my father, she refused to reach out to him and emphasized she was in charge. If this is true, I feel sorry for Dignity Corporation because it will certainly not be in business very long with representatives treating potential customers in the manner in which we were treated. After we left the private conference room on the grounds of the Evergreen Cemetery and were on our way out the building, all of s sudden, Karmalita advised us that she would reach out to her manager. Needless to say, we took our business to a reputable cemetery where we received more value for our money and were treated with Dignity. My advice to any grieving family is to avoid Karmalita and Evergreen Cemetery. read more

The price was more than 2X the after market price (in the same section). I asked the cemetery if the offering price was negotiable. This is your ultimate nightmare for your loved one. As you pull in look to your left and right and that's the red flag on maintenance there. The graves are all rolling, headstones falling, and when it rains don't go visit your loved one along the street you will get drenched by the cars splashing the graves. I have been told that they have landscapers who cut the lawn once every 2 weeks. I have lots inside with family and had to call the dept of professional standards since they to do not want to do any upkeep to have dirt and grass reapplied, my fathers grave was so sunk that had fell into it. I have tried to also have the graves falling down repaired but was told by the DPS the family members have to call them. THEY H AVE NO MAINTENANCE CREW . I hope this dignity corp rots in hell. The amount of money they charge is 3x the amount of most and 1 million times worse than any other cemetery I have ever been too. My husbands family are at St Casmir in Oak Lawn, I have other family in Holy Sepulchre, others at Chapel Hill, please drive thru places and you will see the difference. read more

I visited Evergreen Cemetery today, and I must say that I was very impressed with the staff and service I was given there. I had called on last week to find out where a few of my loved ones were located and the young lady who assisted me was very helpful and pleasant over the phone, and even offered to have maps ready for me when I came to the office! When I arrived today, they had my loved ones information already together for me, with maps attached for each of their locations. The the ground staff had escorted me to my loved ones graves without me having to ask them to, which made my visit to the cemetery, a very pleasant one, thanks to Evergreen Cemetery.
