Here is a summary of what happened when I brought my sewing machine to "Old Reliable Mel" for…read morerepair: He doesn't have a shop. He meets you at a gas station. He takes $60 up front just to look at the machine, regardless of whether he fixes the problem or not. When he returned the machine to me a week later, he said that he fixed the problem. The machine broke in the same way after using it for 5 minutes. I brought the same machine into a sewing machine shop in Northampton. It took 2 minutes for them to identify the problem and drop a new part in. Total cost: $5. My machine has been working for 9 months. I don't recommend Mel for repair of newer sewing machines.
